BEAUTY TREND: THE BABYDOLL

29th May, 2013

YSLBEAUTY4

The Baby Doll look focuses on a strong ‘cat’s eye’. From day to night, this look suits all occasions. I caught up with makeup artist Monika Bunic to find out how to achieve the perfect eyeliner shape to create that 1950’s old Hollywood glamour while keeping a modern edge with a fresh and luminous foundation glow.

What’s the key feature of the Babydoll Look?

The Babydoll Look is all about the wing-tipped eyeliner, and making a bold statement by creating a ‘cat’s eye’ shape above the top lashes. Start with a precision felt-tip eyeliner, like YSL’s ‘Effet Faux Cils Eyeliner’ in Black, and draw a strong, precise line that starts at the inner corner of the eye, and travels out to the edge of the eye, flicking up carefully at the end. For a striking look, thicken up the line by building it up stroke by stroke. Keep the rest of the eye simple with a light sweep of eye shadow close to the eye line, and lashings of YSL Shocking Black Mascara.

What are the other key products that will complement this look?

Every great make-up look starts with a radiant, luminous base, so make sure you look for a foundation that has a water base formulation. Yves Saint Laurent’s award-winning Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation is perfect for this, created in a spectrum of 15 shades covering gold-base, pink-base and neutral-base skintones. For the ultimate make-up artist finish, apply using Yves Saint Laurent’s Foundation Brush, which features a tapered edge to ensure a flawless coverage. Leave your foundation to ‘set’ for a couple of minutes before using Touche Éclat to highlight and banish shadows under eyes, under the brow bone, down the bridge of the nose and on the cupid’s bow above the upper lip.
