BEAUTY TREND: THE TUXEDO LOOK

14th May, 2013

The Tuxedo Look

A bold eye instantly creates glamour and this season ‘The Tuxedo Look’ by Yves Saint Laurent is right on trend. I caught up with makeup artist Monika Bunic to find out how to achieve the perfect smokey eye.

What eye looks have we seen on the catwalks this season?

This season is all about creating theatre with a smouldering, smokey eye and thick, voluminous lashes. Try using a palette such as Pure Chromatics Wet and Dry Number 12, with four shade variations for colour intensity. Use dry and sweep the lighter shade into the socket, then increase the intensity and use the darker shade wet, blending closer to the lash line.

What are the staple eye products we should invest in to keep us on trend this season?

YSL’s Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils makes creating a statement eye simple with a super user-friendly felt-tip application that gives high intensity definition. Just add your favourite YSL Mascara, and you’ve got the on-trend look of the season.

How do we best complement a bold eye with the rest of our look?

For this look the eye is certainly the star of the show. The best way to compliment this statement is by using a highlighting pen, such as YSL’s Touche Éclat, to highlight under the brow bone and underneath the eye to create light and disguise shadows. When used with Le Teint Touche Éclat, the new luminous foundation from Yves Saint Laurent, your radiant complexion will be the perfect platform for your eyes to sparkle.

TIPS

To create the sharpest line with your liquid eyeliner, first place a dot where the flick will end, then simply join the dots – you’ll get the ultimate precision every time!

If it can make a model who has just done countless runway shows on 4 hours sleep look more alive and fresh than a 3 year old then you can see why its a MUA’s favourite.
