Linden Cook Impression: The ultimate way to personalise jewellery

22nd January, 2020

Late last year I was invited by jewellery brand Linden Cook to their showroom to view their Impressions range and was lucky enough to be able to create my own special necklace on the day. Each piece in the range is one-of-a-kind as each delicate pendant features a fingerprint impression. Mine features Sophia and Grace’s fingerprints, but the four of us, including Luke and myself were all able to experience having a traditional wax cast taken of our fingerprints on the day.

The whole process is incredibly easy but results in such a personal, unique piece. You can choose from four different lengths (or request a custom length), the number of fingerprints pendants you want and also the type of metal used. Once you’ve purchased it on the site, you’re sent a kit to take the wax impression, send the completed cast back to Linden Cook who will then start crafting your necklace. As each piece is handmade, it takes around 4-6 weeks to receive the finished piece.

I’m quite sentimental when it comes to my jewellery and love the pieces I wear to mean something so I was thrilled be able to have this experience. It’s very special to have a beautiful piece that allows me to have the girls with me always. If you’ve got an important milestone coming up this would definitely be a memorable way to mark it.

What’s on my shopping wish list

17th January, 2020

The first month of the year always has me wanting to get into wardrobe assessment mode to see what updates I need to make, if any, and also what things are looking tired and need replacing. There’s something quite cathartic about starting with a solid, well-edited closet at the start of each year to help me get back into work mode and ready to start tackling big projects. So, here’s my current wish list. What’s on yours?

Printed Wool-Blend Felt Headband, Fendi

Headbands are one of my go-to forms of headwear because they can work back with so many different looks. Also, it doesn’t require much effort to make it happen unlike other hair accessories which may require a bit more finessing.

Layered Ribbed-Knit Camisole, Dion Lee

This is a great cami because it’s a good layering piece due to its colour, cut and style but it’s also easily able to hold its own when worked back with everything from a skirt to shorts and jeans.

Baye Thong Heel, Tony Bianco

Everything 90s is cool again including the heeled thong. I like the neutral tone of these as I know I’ll be able to wear them with so many different pieces in my wardrobe.

The Pouch Small Gathered Leather Clutch, Bottega Veneta

Everything Bottega Veneta is doing right now is perfection. I love the slouchy look of this clutch which gives it a relaxed feel and the buttery soft leather is a dream.

Flocked Woven Mini Skirt, Fendi

Logomania is still alive and kicking and this skirt by Fendi is a great statement piece, yet the colours make it really wearable and versatile.

Heure H 17.2mm very small gold-plated and textured-leather watch, Hermes

I am always on board when it comes to a beautiful timepiece and this elegant leather watch by Hermes is the kind of thing I can see myself wearing years from now as it’s such a classic design.

Shadow Cropped Ribbed-Knit Top, Dion Lee

Another beautiful layering piece. I also like the fact that I could wear this now but take it into autumn/winter by pairing it with warmer pieces.

Colibri Leather-Trimmed Logo-Print Mesh Slippers, Fendi

There’s something about a soft pink that makes the perfect accent piece for many a look. These slippers are great worn back with pants cropped at the ankle but could easily be worn with a dress.

Presley Ring, Amber Sceats

I tend to favour very simple jewellery and this ring definitely fits the brief. This can be paired with other accessories quite easily making it a great accessory to have in my collection.

Daria, Yuzefi

The unique design of this bag will make it the ideal statement piece to finish off an outfit. The colour and the oversized clasp and chain strap give it a really unique vibe.

What’s on my Christmas Wish List

13th December, 2019

How’s your Christmas wish list coming along? Mine’s a constant work in progress as there are just so many gorgeous things around right now. I’m trying to stick to pieces that I know will update my wardrobe and are going to add something new and fresh to my look. It’s so easy to gravitate towards what you know and love (you obviously know and love them for a reason!) but I think it’s good to push your sartorial boundaries. So without further ado, here’s what I’m hoping Santa brings me this year.

Dolores Mini Knotted Leather Tote, Yuzefi

I’m really into bags that are a unique shape or have some interesting detail on it and this bag fits the bill. I love the knotted handle and the half moon shape. Also, that colour will work back with absolutely everything in my closet making it a worthwhile addition to my wardrobe

Cropped Buckled Wool-Blend Halterneck Top, Proenza Shoulder

Halter tops are so on trend right now and this particular style will work back with so many things I already own. Love the great buckle neckline and simple origami style fold — subtle details can really elevate anything.

Gold-tone Hoop Earrings, Bottega Veneta

Simple hoop earrings never go astray in any accessories line-up, particularly when it’s by Bottega Veneta. These are a great party accessory and are a serious candidate to make a New Year’s Eve appearance.

Logo-print Shearling Slides, Fendi

These are so fun. I think you’re either into texture such as this or not, and I am most definitely in the former camp. Love the logo action too. They’re certainly a talking point and will add some playfulness to any summer look.

Mon Tresor Mini Printed PVC and Leather Bucket Bag, Fendi

Bucket bags have been a longtime favourite of mine and this style is modern and fun. I love the logo detail and also the mini size—perfect for carrying my essentials but also light enough for when I’m on the go and don’t want to be weighed down.

Leather Sandals, Bottega Veneta

These square toe sandals are the shoe of the season. A black sandal is also always a worthwhile piece to have as they’ll work back with so many different outfits.

Claire Off-the-shoulder Linen Top, Cult Gaia

Pastels are always perfect at this time of year and this light blue top would add a lovely pop of colour to any look. The puffy sleeves and the off the shoulder style are so on point.

Pussy-bow Silk-satin Twill Mini Dress, The Vampire’s Wife

This is a gorgeous event dress. I can see this working for everything from the races to a function and the punchy red colour is designed to make a statement. I love the classic finishes including the pussy bow and balloon sleeves.

Satin-trimmed Double-breasted Pleated Embellished Cady Mini Dress, Versace

As you know, I’m a huge fan of suiting so this take on it in the form of a double breasted blazer dress is such a great way to do it. This elevated black dress will be a great one to have on hand for work occasions to functions and parties.

Brook 70 Patent-trimmed Mesh and Leather Pumps, Malone Souliers

Nude pumps are always a great staple to have in your closet but I like this edgier take on it, featuring the mesh panelling. It’s a great accent piece because of the modern design, but the neutral shade make it a style chameleon.

Cropped Button-embellished Ribbed Stretch-knit Top, Balmain

I can see this top having many an outing! It’s a great go-to black top that’s dressy enough to lift everything from a skirt to pants and jeans and elevate it into something special.

Doris Leather Tote, Yuzefi

I love how this bag has soft lines but still feels strong and modern at the same time. The chain link strap is also the perfect finishing touch and gives the bag a point of difference. I’d be very happy indeed to see this under the tree!

6 big spring racing trends that you need to know

17th October, 2019

Are you gearing up for Melbourne Cup? Prepping your look for Derby Day? If you’re headed to any of the key racing events during spring racing then you’re no doubt considering your look. From headwear to shoes, accessories and the outfit itself, it can be hard to figure out what to wear that’s on trend, yet sticks to the specific dress code.

I’ve got a number of events to attend, not to mention my reporting commitments for 7 Racing, which means I have plenty of outfits to lock in and I have to be on top of what’s trending. This season there’s plenty of key trends to try and I’m embracing a number of them throughout the next few weeks. Here are a few of the big ones to look out for…

A sharp skirt suit is a great option for spring racing

Sharp suiting

Traditional suiting is always a failsafe but the best part of what’s on offer this season is that it’s being done in a fresh, modern way. There’s a suit iteration that will work according to every taste, budget and dress code.

I’m a big fan of bold colours when it comes to a power suit, particularly pink which is fun and playful but so contemporary at the same time. Also look out for interesting finishing touches such as contrasting lapels and statement shoulders which ensure that your suit makes an impact. If you want to add a touch of glam, embrace a little satin which can take your suit next-level.

Also think beyond the traditional pants and jacket combination. You can go for a skirt or shorts to change up the look and give it a fresh spin.

Mini accessories

The mini bag is such a huge trend and its diminutive presence will be seen everywhere during spring racing season. You can do a little bag that will hold your main essentials or alternatively you can go super tiny like this and really downsize what you carry with you.

Who else loves an 80s puffed sleeve?

80s revival

The 80s are back! This time around we’re embracing the key silhouettes from the decade including puffed shoulders, high necklines, cinched in waists and the bell sleeve. As far as accessories go embrace a little glam by adding a diamond belt to your look, whilst padded headbands are the perfect way to embrace the trend and tick the headwear box at the same time.

Modern millinery

Hats will always be in but we are seeing headwear runway trends also filter into racing dressing now. Hair accessories are huge at the moment and is one way to tick the headwear box in a different way. Think beautiful hair clips, bows, anything with pearl embellishments and a polished headband. If you’re considering wearing clips, you can double the impact by wearing two at the same time. It gives the look something extra and modernises it.

Working a pink and yellow colour palette into my look

Bold Colours

Don’t be afraid to turn up the saturation during spring racing and embrace big, bold colours. You can opt for vibrant shades of orange, yellow or gold which can all brighten up any look. Alternatively adopt rich hues of purple and pink to lift an ensemble and instantly make it pop.

Longer hemlines

I’ve always erred on the side of conservative when it comes to outfits for the races and this year it’s made even easier by the popularity of longer hemlines. If you’re thinking of dresses or skirts for spring racing, go for a maxi or midi style to look on trend whilst ensuring that you respect the dress code at the same time. Win-win.

The wardrobe items I’m currently using the most

2nd October, 2019

I’m the first to admit I often play favourites when it comes to my wardrobe. There are just some pieces that are constantly on rotation for me at the moment because they just work with everything I own and are great for instantly dressing up a look. And sometimes I just get into a certain vibe when it comes to my outfits and the following pieces work beautifully with the aesthetic I’m going for. Here are the few that are currently at the top of my list…

501 Levis Skinny Jeans

I like the fact that these jeans are a little tapered but still tap into the trend for a more relaxed fit. They’re also a great wash and are able to be dressed up or down whether I’m in the mood to wear a white t-shirt or a beautiful blazer.

Chanel Gabrielle Backpack

I can’t really go past a beautiful Chanel bag and whilst I’m a big fan of their classic 2.55 style, this backpack is also right up there for me. Not only does it look elegant but it’s also utilitarian and can hold all my essentials and still leave me hands free — perfect for travelling or when I’ve got a busy day of running errands.

CC Logo Pink Suede Sneaker

I pretty much live in sneakers so I’m so in love with this pair for the fun pink shade and the on trend shape. Plus who can resist a comfy shoe that also ticks all the style boxes! This is one investment piece that I’m definitely maximising the cost per wear on.

Sparrows Weave The Round Wicker and Leather Top Handle Bag

Beautiful wicker bags are a go-to accessory this season and I do love the shape of this bag for its simplicity and relaxed elegance. I’ve loved being able to wear it on holiday with casual summer dresses and with more dressy ensembles. A versatile piece that I know I’ll be using non-stop this summer.

Giuseppe Zanotti Farrah Heels

I’ve been wearing these shoes to events and with work ensembles of late because it’s such an easy, wearable style that goes with virtually everything. Whilst it’s a great black heel, I love the crystal detail which elevates it and gives it a striking detail that sets it apart.

Aquazzura Deneuve 105 Bow-Embellished Suede Pumps

I often refresh my shoe wardrobe with a new black pump every season and this pair by Aquazzura has been such a great buy. I’ve worn it with jeans to dresses and suits so it’s a definite style chameleon. A heel that definitely ticks all the boxes.

Styling trick: the silk scarf

9th May, 2019

Sometimes all it takes to revamp a look is the help of simple accessories. Case in point: the silk scarf. The beauty of this one simple item is that you can wear it in so many different ways, using it as a hair accessory one minute to a bag accoutrement the next. And whilst it’s great for everyday use, it’s also a handy little thing to have when you’re travelling as it’s small, light and multi-purpose. Here are a few different ways you can incorporate it into your wardrobe.

Use it as a hair tie

You can turn an ordinary bun or ponytail into something a little more pretty and polished with the help of your fave scarf.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl_C-JqBUmZ/
Turn it into a bag adornment

You can easily elevate the bag with the addition of a beautiful scarf. Drape it around the handle a la Elle Ferguson and you have yourself a decorative element that will give any bag a touch of personality.

Wear it as a headband

Headbands are having a bit of a moment and there’s no better way to dip your toe into the trend than by utilising a scarf you have in your wardrobe. Fashion it into a headband and you’re on trend in seconds.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv_Y0U3Aati/
Use it to elevate a look

There’s something quite chic about incorporating a scarf into your look. Tie it around your neck or drape it over a coat and you’ll look classic and put together.

What’s on my shopping wish list

15th February, 2019

I’m making the most of the last month of summer with most of my shopping list this month focused on easy breezy accessories and staples with a sophisticated touch. However I’ve also been embracing a few trendy buys including a fun fluoro bag, a shell headband that’s perfect for this time of year and beige tones which are set to be huge in the coming months. So if you’re in the mood to spoil yourself with a new buy, here are a few things that may inspire you…

Loewe medium leather-trimmed raffia tote

I’ve seen this tote pop up on a few Instagram posts and love its classic yet laidback vibe.

Gucci embellished silk wool blend skirt

This dreamy skirt is perfect no matter the time of year but crisp white and gold really does lend itself to a warm summer day.

Chloe Poppy octagon wire frame sunglasses

I love sunnies that are a little bit quirky and different and the octagon shape of this Chloe pair give them a point of difference to others in my collection.

Self Portrait asymmetric ruffled skirt

If you’ve yet to embrace beige tones prepare yourself because you’ll be seeing the colour everywhere. I love the playful meets classic vibe of this skirt.

Cult Gaia Alia perspex and leather mules

The interesting heel and shape of these mules caught my eye. I definitely like to intersperse my shoe collection with pieces that are a little unique.

Hunza G seersucker swimsuit

I’ve mentioned how much I rate this brand previously so you won’t be surprised that I immediately knew I had to have this particular one piece. It’s the kind of style that I know I’ll have for plenty of summers to come.

Prada macrame and leather bucket bag

A touch of metallic never goes astray. This bag is all kinds of fun and a definite talking piece.

Cult Gaia Sylvie linen and rattan belt

I’ve been trying to expand my belt collection of late and this style is ideal for glamming up a look.

Jacquemus Olbia leather slingback sandals

These heels tick the versatility box with their neutral colour but the shape and finishing details make them stand out in a crowd.

Maison Michel grosgrain hair tie

If you’ve yet to embrace the humble hair bow then you’d better jump on board cause they’re going to be huge. This particular style would work with so many different outfits.

Amber Sceats Sahara earrings

You can never go wrong with statement earrings, especially when they’re such a great style and shape.

Rejina Pyo crinkled satin shoulder bag

This is a bit of a departure from the bags I usually go for but I couldn’t resist the interesting shape and texture and the standout colour.

Lelet NY shell headband

Headbands are always such an easy way to lift an outfit. I especially love the shell detail on this particular piece.

South Beach round straw beach bag

I’ve been loving natural textures when it comes to bags, and this particular piece would get quite the work out over the coming weeks.

Amber Sceats Cordelia earrings

I’m making the most of the shell trend whilst it’s still here and love this cute pair for adding a little nautical element to an ensemble.
