The wardrobe items I use the most

21st September, 2015

They say that on average we only wear 20 per cent of our wardrobe regularly. I know that I often rediscover things in my wardrobe from years ago and enjoy having them in rotation again, but there are definitely some things which I will always wear without fail. These following items have definitely been worth the investment purely based on the cost per wear factor. They’re the building blocks of plenty of outfits and I’ve been able to wear them in myriad ways.

1. Balenciaga leather jacket

I have had my Balenciaga leather jacket for years. It was a bit of a splurge at the time I bought it but it has definitely lasted the test of time. It’s a really good quality and it’s really warm so it’s a winter staple. I take it everywhere I go (including to interview supermodels like Erin Wasson!). Also, Balenciaga sells this jacket all the time so it’s not a trend item that you can identify with a certain season.

2. Balmain blazer

I just get so much wear out of my blazer. I actually bought it on sale at Net-a-Porter. They’re so expensive so my tip is to be patient and keep an eye out for it to go on sale. I didn’t want to buy it full price so I was consistently on the look out for it to go on sale. It took me a few seasons but I eventually found one. I wear this blazer to death so it was definitely worth the investment.

3. Proenza Schouler clutch

My mum gave this clutch to me as a present and I am always using it. It’s really great because I can dress it up and down. It’s just a plain black clutch with detailing but it’s really versatile; I often wear it dressed down with jeans but it doesn’t look out of place worn at night for a more formal occasion. If you can find a go-to black clutch, you’re set for so many different occasions.

4. Balenciaga Le Dix Cartable bag

I have always said this bag is one of my wardrobe staples. I like that I can wear it as a handbag slung over my arm or wear it with the strap over over my shoulder to keep my hands free. If I’m ever buying a designer handbag I make sure that I can get plenty of use out of it and it’s not just a bag I save for certain occasions. Being a mum, having my hands free is really important to me when I’m out and about with Sophia so this bag is perfect.

5. Scanlan Theodore Raw backpack

I have not taken this backpack off since I got it. I only got it a couple of months ago and I haven’t stopped using it because a backpack is so easy when you have a baby. It’s also the perfect bag to take when I’m travelling. I brought it on my trip to Dubai this year and it was ideal as I was able to take all my essentials and still keep my hands free to deal with my other bags.

6. Alaia fringed suede sandals

I buy two pairs of statement heels a season and this was one of them. These sandals have seen me through Fashion Week and also many events I’ve attended throughout the year. They’re great as black goes with virtually everything in my wardrobe but they also add a unique touch to an outfit because of the fringed detail. I love anything that’s got some interesting detail that makes it stand out.

7. Alaia ankle boots

If I splurge on a pair of statement heels I make sure I can wear them to death. In winter I always buy a boot and as soon as I saw these I knew I’d get a lot of wear out of them. I always opt for black purely because I know I can make them work in so many different ways. Now that summer is almost here, I’m on the look out for a pair of strappy black statement heels and a nude shoe to get me through the warmer months.

What are the items in your wardrobe that you wear to death?

Fashion, What I Wore

What I Wore: Bec and Bridge

I am all about a wardrobe that can work virtually all year round so when I saw this dress from Bec & Bridge‘s latest collection (in-store now) I could see myself wearing it now and through to summer. I love the little details on this dress such as the cutout detail and draping and I am always on board with anything in monochrome! While the weather is cooler I’ll be wearing this dress with my leather jacket and come summertime, it will be ideal for long lunches in the sunshine.

What I wore: Westfield Kotara Style Masterclass

30th March, 2015

I am really loving capes at the moment (you’ll see them everywhere this winter). I recently hosted a Style Masterclass at Westfield Kotara and opted for this cape and skirt combination from sheike. If you want a slightly different take on the blazer, a cape is a great alternative.
