12 Insta-outfits to inspire your look in 2017

2nd January, 2017

A brand new year may be inspiring you to update your look – but where to start? Before you hit the shops or start doing a major closet clean out be sure to start with a little fashion inspiration first. And what better place to start than with some of the most stylish ladies to ever hit Instagram…

Dress up your denim with bright pops of colour. A vibrant hue is the ultimate way to offset a pair of blue jeans.

Inject a little man-style tailoring into your wardrobe. Every woman should own a great suit that fits her body perfectly. When it comes to choosing a colour you can’t go wrong with shades such as black, navy or grey.

Channel Olivia Palermo and focus on the little details this year. The perfect sleeve, a structured bag or a quirky finishing touch to a pair of shoes is a great way to make your outfit stand out from the crowd.

Who says neutrals can’t make a statement? A natural hue looks even more glamorous with a touch of shine while a multi-toned mules look elegant and polished.

Mix and match textures for a look that feels considered and perfectly put together. Suede and wool work fabulously together when the weather cools down.

Think classic when it comes to your accessories. A pair of gold aviators or a chain strap bag are the ideal way to finish an outfit.

Pinstripe shirting goes from corporate to cool when cut in a modern off the shoulder style.  Think outside the box when it comes to traditional patterns and prints.

It’s hard to improve on monochrome as it works so well. Play with contrast such as adding a white blazer to an all black ensemble to really make the look pop.

A tough biker jacket can look polished when teamed with the right texture or pattern. This leather jacket looks decidedly polished when paired with a velvet bag and a skirt in a delicate houndstooth pattern.

Sneakers are here to stay especially when of the white variety. Look for slightly elevated platform styles to give the look a point of difference or stick to old favourites from the likes of Nike and Adidas. The only rule? Keep them spotless!

I’ve always been a big fan of touches of animal print. Go all out with a jacket Kendall Jenner style or go for a hint of it such as the trim on a pair of shoes or a bag.

Don’t be afraid to clash prints but just be sure to choose one colour to tie the look together. This look is given some cohesion with elegant black pumps that pick up the colour in the jumper without obscuring its playful nature.

What I Wore: Spring whites

There’s nothing like a crisp white dress to really herald the start of easy-breezy spring dressing and this wrap dress with kimono sleeves and subtle pleating by Tome has been a nice addition to my wardrobe as its the perfect blank canvas for myriad looks. I decided to keep this particular look quite pared back and just go for a simple monochrome palette. A simple Jerome Dreyfuss mini shoulder bag with chain handle helped to counterbalance the feminine style of the dress and really gave the look some edge. I kept my accessories to a minimum for this particular outfit, with just a pair of classic black sunglasses and some of my favourite bracelets adding some interesting finishing touches to an otherwise simple ensemble. Sometimes it really is all about taking a less is more approach.

What I Wore: Like a lady

After being at home with a newborn and a toddler over the last few months it has been nice to slowly ease myself back into work – and getting to dress up again! I’ve had a few work events pop up recently and it has been great to have Nadia in Sydney to attend them with.

I wanted to wear something ladylike but with an edge to a recent function and really loved the above khaki coloured dress by Christopher Esber. I think the shade is right on trend and really provided a great base colour for one of my new fave blazers by Camilla and Marc. It really made the crisp white colour pop. The statement shoulders and nipped in waist also give the blazer a really flattering silhouette. I am loving all things Gucci at the moment as they have really just been nailing it in both the accessories and ready to wear department and this bag with its fun appliqué design and chain strap really elevated the traditional monogram print of the bag.

12 Insta-outfit ideas to steal

3rd October, 2016

Scrolling through Instagram and checking out #ootd posts is one of my favourite ways to get outfit ideas. If you’re looking for a little wardrobe inspiration for the week look no further than some of the world’s top fashion bloggers…

A tonal look makes a stylish impact. Team it with minimal accessories to keep it looking chic.

You can never go wrong with a bright pop of colour, especially when it comes in the form of a statement shoe.

Accessories are front and centre again so don’t be afraid to experiment with some bold ear candy to give your look a modern update.

Pyjama dressing is one trend that’s been an unexpected hit. Try a pyjama-inspired dress for an easy to wear take on this trend.

Wearing bold prints from head to toe is not for the faint hearted but when you keep it in the same family like this chevron print it instantly becomes all the more wearable.

Pair unexpected colours like this rust and terracotta combination for a look that is on trend.

Mix and match textures such as satin and denim to give an outfit an added level of interest.

The classic white shirt is always a wardrobe staple but why not experiment with how you wear it? You could try buttoning it all the way through, simply rolling up the sleeves or tying it in a knot a la Camille Charrière.

Wide leg pants are definitely one trend to watch out for this season. Incorporate it into your wardrobe with a pair of simple black slacks or alternatively embrace this silhouette in a printed pattern or vibrant colour.

Sunglasses are one of my fave ways to give an outfit a different spin. Mirrored lenses, a cat-eye or round frame, or embellishment or just some of the ways in which you can make your sunnies a talking point.

Slides are going to have quite a presence during spring/summer so add a pair to your wardrobe now. You could opt for something simple or have some fun and embrace a pair with a unique finish like this pair with gilded buckles.

Don’t forget the denim skirt this season. A simple A-line silhouette will definitely get a workout during the warmer months.

Steal her style: Aimee Song

12th August, 2016

A photo posted by Aimee Song (@songofstyle) on

She has 3.8 million followers on Instagram alone and her hugely successful blog Song of Style is an endless source of fashion inspo, so it’s no surprise that Aimee Song knows how to turn standard fashion staples such as a blazer and jeans and turn it into something deserving of thousands of likes. Add this outfit to your repertoire for those days when you want to walk out the door with some extra polish.

Black blazer

I know that I can’t live without a black blazer in my life purely because it’s often an easy option to throw on over an outfit and pulls a look together without much effort.

Black tee

A wardrobe should always have a well stocked supply of t-shirts. I tend to favour white the most but a simple black tee is always good to have on hand.

Ripped denim

This is a great lesson in how distressed denim can still look sharp. A pair of skinny or straight leg jeans, cropped at the ankle and paired with the right accoutrements can go from comfy casual to decidedly chic.

Metallic bag

Not ventured into metallics territory as yet? A bag is a great place to start. A metallic bag is often a great way to add a pop of colour to an outfit and give it a point of difference.

Pointed heels

The plethora of pointed heels available this season with interesting finishes and textures will ignite your passion for the humble black pump. An investment you definitely won’t regret.
