12 Insta-outfit ideas to steal

4th February, 2019

Who’s looking for some new wardrobe inspo? Now that we’re all fully back into the swing of things—holidays are over, school’s back, work is well underway, it can be the perfect time for a little style injection. So whether you’re looking something to take your office look up notch or a great ensemble to try on the weekend, I’ve rounded up a few outfits that are work bookmarking the next time you feel you’re in a fashion rut.

Mix classic and casual

A printed button down shirt and jeans makes for the ideal effortless and chic outfit that you can wear for myriad occasions.

Go monochrome

A little black and white never goes astray. Try a monochrome palette the next time you’re feeling stuck for an outfit, I guarantee it’s always unfailingly stylish.

Say it loud and proud

A slogan tee always adds a fun element to any look. Whether it’s your favourite brand or a phrase or word you adore, letting your clothes do the talking is a playful take on casual dressing.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BstXQ05nS9g/
Turn up the volume

Neutrals have their place but sometimes you just want to turn up the vibrancy. Prints worked back with a bold, solid colour make for an eye-catching look that’s not over the top.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BoCuAefAQAw/
Keep it simple

Sometimes the best style formulas are still the most simple. A plain tee, with denim shorts and minimalist sandals looks relaxed and effortless.

Go back to basics

Never underestimate the simplest pieces in your closet. A white singlet and shorts is an often utilised combination but when dressed up with an accessory or two such as a belt and a necklace, it’s super stylish.

Clash your prints

You can always call on Olivia Palermo to demonstrate just how amazing clashing prints can be. When trying this look just be sure to have similar colours in each print to allow the look to flow.

Keep it tonal

Using the same colour in various shades can make for an impactful look.

Add a headpiece

You don’t always have to save headpieces for the races! A great accessory like a statement headband or embellished clips, or even a scarf can turn an ordinary outfit into something more.

Layer up

Whether it’s stacking necklaces or bracelets or earrings, wearing a cluster of jewellery is one way to elevate a look with minimal fuss.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BqcBmSMgtyH/
Try a statement midi skirt

I’m a huge fan of a midi skirt because I think it looks classic and sophisticated. However to avoid it looking too sedate, try one in a great print. Animal print, stripes, polka dots… go forth and embrace a bold pattern.

Invest in a tapered pant

A cropped tapered pant in a neutral colour will take you through the next few months. Work it back with your favourite tee or cami and sandals for the ultimate in effortlessly chic looks.

Go nautical

A simple striped shirt will prove to be a worthwhile wardrobe addition when you see how many wears you get out of it. From jeans to shorts, it’s a definite fashion workhorse.

Linen separates

There’s something fresh about linen, especially in white. An outfit like this is understated and elegant and will work for myriad occasions.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BrD69vJgtH0/

Go for a co-ord set

A co-ordinating two piece is a great shortcut to looking put together and the best bit is you can wear them separately to get double bang for your fashion buck.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BsCz0_AB1Ye/

Try a coloured denim skirt

Mix up your look by injecting a little colour into your denim wardrobe. A knee length skirt is also one that can be styled in various ways and will take you through to autumn.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BqPI9p8lNyX/

Layer your accessories

Wearing a few gold necklaces together is an impactful way to let your accessories take centre stage. Just ensure they’re all at different lengths for a cohesive look.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BpWvxjcnVoT/

Make your back a feature

We often forget that a flash of skin in the back is equally as alluring. This year, look for pieces with a great back detail to amp up the glamour.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BliPaiuHgP6/

White shirt + denim = a winner

A classic white shirt and denim shorts is still a reliable outfit option during the summer months so don’t forget about it! It’s also so easy to put together and can be dressed up or down according to your shoes and accessories.

Go one shoulder

We’ve definitely embraced the off the shoulder silhouette the last few seasons but this year, look to the one shoulder as a great alternative. Sexy and practical (let’s face it, sometimes off the shoulder styles can be a bit fussy to wear) it’s the ideal option for a night out.

Add a belt

Belt up a feminine skirt with an edgy belt to take it into a different direction. You could also do this with dresses in your wardrobe to equal effect.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BmOP_AcheIC/

Wrap it up

A wrap dress is such a flattering style that I think everyone should have one in their wardrobe. A great print such as blue and white stripes is also ideal for this time of year and will elongate your figure.

Embrace a little drama

A bold dramatic maxi skirt is a good option for those times when you want an event look that’s a little different. Pair it with a crisp white shirt for a classic ensemble that still packs a sartorial punch.

12 Insta-outfit ideas to steal

5th November, 2018

In the craziness of spring racing of late, I’ve needed to look for a bit of fashion inspo for my  everyday looks. When you’re caught up in a whirlwind of fascinators and Cup Day looks and deciding what look goes with which dress code, it can be easy to forget that yes, your regular wardrobe needs a bit of love too. And now that we’re finally transitioning into warmer weather in Sydney I’ve had to rethink my looks a little. I can finally start moving into dresses and sandals territory and put my jumpers and coats into hibernation. If you’re in the same trans-seasonal boat then you’ve come to the right place, because coming up are style ideas a plenty.

Whilst colourful looks are great there’s something impactful about wearing one shade throughout. Look for lighter tones which are softer and easier to work with.

There are plenty of options available of this style so definitely consider adding it to your wardrobe this season.

12 Insta-outfit ideas to steal: the dress edition

10th September, 2018

I’m a big believer in the effortless wardrobe staple that is the dress. If I’m having one of those days where I don’t really want to have to think about pulling an outfit together I’ll often go for a dress as it requires minimal styling. I don’t have to worry about matching tops to bottoms and all I really have to do is pick out my shoes and accessories and I’m done. This spring/summer we’re going to be spoilt for choice as far as dresses go. From the sleek slip dress to dresses with statement sleeves or a relaxed, boho vibe there’s definitely a frock option to suit everyone. To get you inspired here are a few stylish Insta-options that you’ll definitely want to add to your fashion repertoire.

A slinky slip dress is always a great go-to for day and night. The cowl neck on this style gives it a point of difference and the print gives it a touch of sweetness.

If you’re looking for a dress style that you’ll live in this summer this is it. The colour, the stripes, the ruffles all give it relaxed vibe.

A simple midi dress is a handy option to have in your closet because it’s so easy to change it up. Pair it with a great blazer or denim jacket or a tied up shirt like the above outfit and you can instantly change the entire look and feel of it.

The great tie-up sleeves on this particular dress make it an ideal LBD—a streamlined style but with just a touch of interesting detail to make it stand out in a crowd.

I love the corset feature of this particular dress and how it’s perfectly balanced by the short balloon sleeves, giving it just the right amount of volume.

How to elevate work wear

27th August, 2018

Good or bad, our office attire is often one of the major things that people use to judge us in the workplace. So it goes without saying that there’s no harm in looking the part with a sleek, polished wardrobe that screams professional.

When I used to work a nine-to-five job I was always looking for ways I could rework my looks without having to splurge on something new all the time, as working as a fashion editor, it was almost written into my job description that I had to look on trend. Even now with a more varied schedule that takes me from my desk to a function to a shoot on any given day, I still try to maintain a certain level of polish whilst still incorporating elements of what’s trending at the moment; and that requires having to think strategically about what’s worth investing in. That said, trust me when I say that you don’t have to spend a fortune on a complete revamp. It’s all about identifying the key pieces that will take your workwear next-level. Here are a few staples that I think can elevate any look whether you work in a corporate environment or a creative space…

Statement bag

It’s pretty much a given that you’ll always have a work bag with you so given how heavily it features in your office wardrobe it pays to go for something that’s chic and classic, with some detail that helps give it a little personality. I find a tote or a structured top handle bag is always a safe bet but you could also try a shoulder bag with a longer strap if you’re not one to carry a lot of things on a day to day basis. Look for extra details such as a gorgeous clasp or handle style, metal hardware or a textured finish. This is one thing I’d recommend looking to buy the best quality you can afford given how often you’re wearing it.

Quality blazer

You’re guaranteed to get so much use out of a blazer as you can pop it on over a dress, wear it with a shirt and a skirt or pair it with slim pants, so once again go for one that is a good quality. Black is always a good choice as it can pretty much work back with anything but if you want a touch of colour a beautiful navy is another sophisticated choice.

Statement shoe

It’s a good idea to have a pair of really amazing work shoes in your collection. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a pair of black pointed pumps. However if you want something a little different you could always try a slingback style for a shoe that’s on trend and guaranteed to get plenty of use.

Understated accessories

I’m all for bold accessories but work is one place where it’s a good idea to dial it down a notch. I don’t think you can go wrong with a pair of simple studs or a delicate necklace. If you’re a watch person, a beautiful timepiece is an outfit addition that will feel right at home in the workplace .

Quality staples

I don’t think you need to spend an absolute fortune on your work wardrobe but I would look to invest in the workhorses of your office looks. Pieces like a pair of black pants, a white button down shirt, an A-line or pencil skirt and a wool or cashmere sweater are all things that would be on high rotation so therefore it stands to reason that you’d invest a little more in them to ensure their longevity.

What are some of your favourite ways to elevate your work wardrobe?

What I Wore: On Track

10th July, 2018

The word tracksuit doesn’t immediately conjure up images of a chic ensemble suitable for your next event but it’s time to turn that notion on its head. Enter this gorgeous forest green set by Camilla & Marc. The pants and jacket both have a distinctly athletic vibe however both have a refined aesthetic that make them look appropriate for a slightly dressier occasion.

The key to dressing up something that’s quite sporty looking and making it work for a function is your accessories. In this instance, this tracksuit definitely called for a statement heel to elevate it. I have rediscovered these Aquazzura heels recently and couldn’t resist pairing them with this outfit. The snakeskin adds an edgy touch whilst the straps give them a strong focal point and provide the ideal contrast to the simplicity of the jacket and pants. A simple pair of classic sunglasses seemed the perfect choice so as not to overwhelm the look whilst I kept my jewellery to a minimum, sticking to a lone gold bangle to add an elegant finishing touch.

I love being able to push the boundaries as far as my outfits go and in this instance, taking something that seems at first to be quite casual and turning it into an unexpected go-to for dinner or a work party. I think fashion is always about experimentation, playing with trends and learning to put your own spin on outfits—even when it comes to the humble tracksuit!

What I Wore: Matching Pair

3rd July, 2018

A touch of linen is always a welcome addition to my wardrobe as it’s so comfortable and understated yet with a luxe feel. This co-ordinating set by Hansen & Gretel has a suit-like feel with the wrap blazer and tailored pants but is a little more relaxed, making it work for everything from a day at the office to a work event.

I’m a huge fan of all things neutral and I like the fact that this set can easily be dressed up or down and is not too distinct in design that I can wear it to multiple occasions quite easily. A quick change of accessories and I could instantly transform it, making it one of those amazing multi-purpose go-tos that I love having in my closet.

I didn’t want to overpower the beautiful pared back sand hue of this suit but I also needed strong accessories to provide some contrast. My favourite navy Bulgari top handle bag added a dressy element to this look whilst the colour worked well with the neutral palette of my outfit. My round frame Chloe sunglasses provided a fun touch, maintaining a laidback yet polished vibe.
