Style vs Steal: Hermès Oran sandal

28th August, 2019

With glimpses of the warm weather that’s just around the corner, gorgeous summery sandals have been on my mind. And whilst there are definitely more styles available than days to wear them, if you’re in the market for a pair of summer slides that will be in vogue season after season then look no further than the classic Hermès Oran sandal.

Seen on many a fashion blogger, editor and celeb, the Oran’s beauty is in its simplicity. An unfussy design with sleek lines and an impressive versatility that will ensure that it will work back with numerous outfits. No doubt the durability factor is high when it comes to an Hermès piece, but it also comes with the price tag to match. If you’ve had your heart set on this style but your shopping budget isn’t quite ready for it, then you’re in luck because there are some great alternatives that are affordable, but have a similar sensibility. And to make it even easier, I’ve rounded up some shoppable options for you below.

What’s on my shopping wish list

12th July, 2019

I’ve been shopping around for investment pieces of late so this month’s round up features a few designer buys that I’ve had my eye on. Bags and shoes are usually what I splurge on because of how versatile they are so I’ve been scouring my fave brands such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton for new designs. That said, the rest of my list involves some practical wardrobe updates that I know I’ll wear to death. It’s all about a high-low mix when it comes to my wardrobe.

O!mega Shadow Gel Powder Eyeshadow, Marc Jacobs Beauty

My makeup artist Michael Brown used a selection of products from the Marc Jacobs Beauty range on me for Fashion Week and ever since them I’ve been obsessed. This particular shade has such a rich colour and achieves a natural flushed effect.

Boyfriend V Neck, Skin and Threads

Skin and Threads have always been a fave brand for jumpers and I come back to them every winter. Oversized knits are great as they’re comfy and cosy. I like the baggy look of this and the gorgeous pink shade.

Cannes, Louis Vuitton

Structured, dainty bags are hugely popular right now and I like the compact size of this and its elegant feel.

Sling Back in Neutral and Black, Chanel

Image via Chanel

I can’t go past the classic look of these Chanel pumps. The iconic beige/black combination is a versatile colour pairing and the comfy heel make them great for wearing during busy work days.

Chanel’s Gabrielle Backpack, Chanel

I saw the bubblegum pink shade of this bag and immediately fell in love. Even in such a striking colour I don’t think you can ever really go wrong with a Chanel bag — it’ll hold up well and have longevity, not to mention the bucket style is a classic.

U Crew Neck short Sleeve T-Shirt, Uniqlo

Image via Uniqlo

These white t-shirts are a new fave of mine. I’ve actually been wanting to stock up on them because they’re just the right shape, they’re a really thick fabric and they don’t look worn just after a few washes.

Mom Jean, Levi’s

Images via Revolve

Can’t get enough of “mom” jeans. I like the slightly relaxed fit and they work really well with a tee, sneakers and a cute coat.

Black Belt Bag, TDE

If you’re like me and are a fan of going handsfree when it comes to your bags then this is a great, affordable option by The Daily Edited. And I’m always on board with any kind of monogramming.

Bare Leather Sandals, The Row

The only difficult thing when it comes to these shoes is deciding which colour to get. I like the rust tone of this pair and its minimalist style makes it extremely versatile.

The power of the statement shoe

27th April, 2019

I’m a firm believer that shoes can make or break an outfit. This is why I’m all about a statement shoe. An eye-catching pair of shoes can pull your entire outfit together. I think the key to a great statement shoe is in the cut, the material and the colour plus I think they’ve got to be classic in that they last season after season but they’ve also got to have interesting details that make them unique. Even if it’s just a plain black pump there has to be something about it whether its just a beautiful heel or great material. And most of all, it has to be beautifully crafted.

I have plenty of shoe labels that I love but at the moment these are the brands that I think do the perfect statement shoe

Aquazzura have really beautiful designs and have a really interesting look to them.  I have a great pair of Aquazzura snakeskin stilettos that I wear all the time.

I love Tabitha Simmons‘ shoes. I wore a pair of her leopard print stilettos to Melbourne Cup one yaer and I felt they really added an interesting element to my outfit. Her shoes are just a little bit quirky and a lot of fun.

I also love Balenciaga‘s shoe line. They’re classic and are perfectly crafted. As I wear my heels so often I invest a little more in them so they’re great quality and are built to last.

Stay comfy during party season with a pair of dressy flats

23rd November, 2018

It’s that time of year again where we’re juggling multiple social events from office Christmas parties to catch-ups over the holidays and gatherings with family and friends. This inevitably means having to get dolled up a time or two and if you’re not such a huge fan of heels then I do have another option for you: dressy flats.

If you’re going to do flats to an event just be sure to be mindful of the length of your outfit to ensure it elongates rather than shortens you. So keep pants cropped at the ankle to show off the shoe whilst dresses and skirts that are knee length to midi length look great with a flat. If you’re going to do a mini it’s also a great shoe option as it helps to ground the look. Apart from that you’re good to go!

I’ve embraced wearing flats to various occasions and I have to say it’s a game-changer. I can just get on with having a great time and not have to deal with aching feet throughout the course of an evening. And there are so many great options available out there that are on equal footing as some of the most gorgeous heels around. From those with dramatic embellishments to intricate detail and fashion forward shapes—there’s seriously a pair to suit any occasion.

Spring racing shoes at every heel height

26th October, 2018

A great shoe is a must for a winning spring racing look, and zeroing in on the perfect pair every year is high on my list of things to do. I always take into account what will work with my outfit but also how long I’ll be able to wear them. The latter is probably the most important as per proper racing etiquette you should always keep your shoes on till the very end! And this year, we’ve never been more spoilt for shoe options. There are so many designs around now incorporating everything from jaw-dropping embellishments, intricate detailing and all the colours of the rainbow. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect heel to match with your outfit, whether it be something vibrant for Melbourne Cup or elegant and monochrome for Derby Day, you’ve come to the right place.

High heel

There’s no denying the impact of a statement heel. Plus let’s not forget the fact they gives you legs for days. If you’re going to rock a high heel make sure you break them in a few days beforehand to avoid any blister disasters.

Midi Heel

This is the comfortable option for those times when you want to wear a heel but can’t face a day in something sky high. You’ll still get all the benefits of a little extra height but it might be a little easier to manoeuvre your way around the track.

Flats

In times gone by flats may have been considered to be a little too practical to wear to an event, especially the races but that’s all changed. These days you can now find a flat that’s as much of a showstopper as its heeled counterpart. And the best bit? You’ll be ridiculously comfortable the entire day.

7 types of shoes that every woman should own

29th September, 2018

When I’m sometimes helping friends do a wardrobe revamp they always ask me about which shoes they need to cull and which shoes they need to add to their collection. I’m the first to admit that I’ve managed to accumulate a number of shoes in my time, all of which I love for various reasons, however there are certain shoes in my closet that I know I definitely couldn’t live without. These are the shoes that have got me through many occasions and I turn to time and time again. This is why I inevitably always give my girlfriends the same list of  shoes — this is the footwear that I guarantee will be used often and will serve you season after season.

So, what’s on the list? These 7 shoes will get you through all kinds of occasions and will make putting a stylish outfit together just that little bit easier.

Black slimline heels

I’ve worn these heels to black tie functions, to work events, to weddings, to social occasions… the list goes on. This is why I think every woman should own a pair of simple black slimline heels as they will become a go-to on more than one occasion.

A black and nude pump

This is the workhorse shoe of my wardrobe. I find I’ll wear a black pump with everything from a cocktail dress to work attire. I love a pointy toed black pump in suede or leather. (Just be sure to waterproof them to help with their longevity.)

Sometimes a black pump will look too harsh with certain clothing so a shoe in a nude colour is a great alternative. You’ll find this shoe is just as versatile as a black pump and will work back with so many different items from your wardrobe.

Black high heeled boots

Now that winter is on its way make it your mission to find a good pair of black high heeled boots. The right pair of black boots will last you season after season and you’ll wonder how you ever survived winter without them.

A comfy pair of flat shoes

For those days when you’re running around and just need to be comfortable, a pair of ballet flats is an essential (if you prefer a loafer they also fall into the same category). I have a pair of black ballet flats that I’ve had for years and a pair of Gucci loafers that are still in high rotation. They’re my go-to shoes when comfort is key. You don’t necessarily have to go for a neutral either, you can have some fun with flats and experiment with different prints or colours.

A statement shoe

Every girl should have a pair of show-stopping heels that make an outfit. I love an animal print myself (leopard especially) however you could also go for a metallic colour or something with really interesting detail. The only aim should be is that they’re bold and definitely stand out from the crowd.

Sneakers

These have become almost as crucial to my wardrobe as my heels as I spend so much of my time running around, comfort is key. Plus sneakers as just so versatile. From my off duty wardrobe to spending a day at the office, my sneakers are front and centre. I definitely think a pair of classic white sneakers is a must.

The comfy heel that’s everywhere this season

20th June, 2018

Whilst skyscraper heels will always have their place it’s also a welcome change to downsize a little and actually be able to comfortably walk around in a heel all day. The kitten heel has become the heel of the season. And no wonder—they’re easy to run around in, have a classic vintage feel about them and look great with everything from cropped trousers to dresses and skirts. With every high profile designer from Dior to Balenciaga and Prada doing their own version of this shoe you can bet it’s going to become quite the staple in our wardrobes over the next few months.

When navigating this shoe style there are a few things to remember for a flattering effect:

Go for midi length

This is the time to go conservative on the hemline front. Keep things quite demure and aim for everything to hit at mid calf. It’s chic and will definitely work better with the shorter heel.

Experiment with styles

From a slingback to mules and boots, you’ll see the kitten heel on all different style shoes this season. The easiest way to wear it is a classic closed toe pointy pump however a slingback looks very on trend and the boot is one way to really up the style cred of any look.

Dare to bare

It’s quite diminutive in heel size but you still want it to take centre stage so allow it to shine by opting to show a little skin. Try a midi length pant to show off a mule or a cropped jean that allows a little skin to show through between the boot and the denim. Alternatively if you want to wear a full length pant, ensure it sits just at the ankle bone.

Keep them pointy

Whatever kitten heel shoe style you choose be sure to keep them pointed. The pointy toe will help elongate your feet and balances well with the fact the heel is shorter.

Steal some style ideas below on how to introduce the kitten heel into your life and shop my top picks below.
