It is that time of year again when the nation stops to celebrate all things ‘Aussie’. You may choose to spend the day with friends cooking a BBQ, relaxing alone at the beach, or with family playing cricket in your backyard. Personally, I love heading outdoors with Luke and the girls, enjoying the natural beauty of our countryside. Australia Day is also a time to celebrate the talent of our fabulous home-grown visionaries: artists, craftsmen and trendsetters, better known as fashion designers. Since the debut of Fashion Week in Australia in 1996, the success of our Aussie fashion designers and brands have made their name on a national and international platform. Below I’ve compiled a list of my favourite Aussie brands and a few looks that I’m currently loving.
Bec and Bridge
Best friends, Becky Cooper and Bridget Yorston, started their brand back in 2003 and I have loved their vision since its origin. Their distinctive style plays with contoured lines and sleek silhouettes and I love the boldness and vibrancy of their colour palettes.
Dion Lee is definitely one of my favourite Aussie designers and is renowned for his well balanced yet paradoxal style. What I love about his brand is his ability to create a perfectly tailored garment that still holds a sense of femininity.
Camilla and Marc
A brother-sister Aussie brand that produce high-quality pieces that are simplistic in design. I find their garments are easy to mix and match as well as versatile, which make them a ‘must have’!
The incredibly talented Zimmermann sisters became international trendsetters with their fusion of fashion and swimwear. I absolutely love the high end quality and design of their always on point swimwear range.
Rebecca Vallance’s namesake brand, boasts international ‘must haves’ and worn by Hollywood celebrities. Her combination of classic tailoring and luxurious fabrics are a winner in my eyes.
Toni Maticevski is truely an extraordinary artist! His ability to drape and sculpt the most amazing silhouettes is breath taking and I feel amazing wearing his pieces.
Poppy Lissiman’s brand is another Aussie favourite of mine. Poppy’s eye catching choice of colour and design brings her accessories to another level from traditional street wear. I love the sense of playfulness, fun and quirkiness she brings to each piece.
Mara & Mine
Tamara Ingham & Jasmine Yarbrough are the Aussie women behind this minimalist, sophisticated, European inspired flat footwear. I love a pair of Mara & Mine flats as they are super comfortable whilst still looking fashionable. These flats are definitely a staple item!
This well-known international brand was created by another one of our talented Aussie designers. What makes Christopher Esber different from the others is his ability to design and create sophisticated pieces with a unique “undone quality”. I love that the garments are flexible as I can wear them differently depending on the event I’m attending.
