Steal her style: Coco Rocha

7th October, 2016

A photo posted by Coco Rocha (@cocorocha) on

Model Coco Rocha has covered virtually every major magazine in existence including Vogue, Elle, Allure, Glamour, Marie Claire and i-D. She has walked for Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and Emanuel Ungaro and fronted campaigns for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Lanvin and Yves Saint Laurent. Her style has always been chameleonic going from colourful and quirky one minute to monochromatic and polished the next, however her looks are always strong and make a statement. If ever there was a reason to embrace a bold coloured dress, this is it…

Fuchsia dress

A hot pink dress is certainly not one for the faint-hearted but Rocha manages to pull it off and make it look chic. A tip: if you’re going to rock a bright, form fitting dress, keep it looking demure by going for one with a knee length hemline.

Peep toe booties

Pink and black has always been a winning combination and in this instance it helps to ground the showstopping nature of the dress. Plus you’re guaranteed to get plenty of wear out of black booties as they will work with virtually everything in your wardrobe.

Steal her style: Victoria Beckham

30th September, 2016

Victoria Beckham is one woman who always looks impeccable. Known for her penchant for vertiginous heels and figure-hugging dresses, she always looks perfectly turned out – which is why this look at New York Fashion Week was such an unexpected (but pleasant) surprise. The man-style tailoring of her outfit had just the right feminine touches with the tousled hairstyle and dainty jewellery and still maintained her signature polish. Plus she managed to make simple slides look oh-so stylish. The loose fit and natural textures make this an ideal outfit for spring.

Tailored button-down shirt

A relaxed tailored shirt, with its additional volume can actually make a frame appear smaller. Roll up the sleeves to give it a slightly more nonchalant feel.

Wide-leg pants

Wide-leg pants are on-trend and the oatmeal colour of Beckham’s pants ensure that they’re easily workable into a multitude of looks. Team it with a tee or cami depending on whether you’re looking to dress it up or down. Thread a simple black scarf through belt loops (if your pants have any) and you’re set.

Black slides

A simple pair of black slides will definitely get a workout throughout the summer months. As a bonus they’re comfortable too.

6 Women to turn to in a wardrobe rut

26th September, 2016

It’s a familiar scenario: it’s the start of the week and you’ve already hit a styling block. It can be hard to get your fashion styling juices flowing at times so it pays to have a few guaranteed sources of inspiration to turn to in those dire times when you look into the depths of your wardrobe and think you’ve got absolutely nothing to wear. The truth is you do. It’s just a matter of seeing what you currently own in a new way. That’s when it pays to hit up some stylish women’s social media accounts to help you reframe the way you think.

The style icon: Olivia Palermo

Frankly the woman could wear a paper bag and it would considered the height of fashion! However Palermo is the perfect person to turn to if you want a little nudge in the fashion experimentation department. She mixes prints, textures and colours and makes it look oh-so easy.

The editor-in-chief: Emmanuelle Alt

The editor-in-chief of French Vogue is known for her slightly androgynous looks. Her penchant for wearing slacks with collared silk blouses has always been one of her staple looks and just goes to show that once you have a winning formula it doesn’t hurt to stick with it.

The digital entrepreneur: Miroslava Duma

The diminutive founder of Buro 24/7 and The Tot is a constant on my style radar simply because of her ability to flit from boho chic one minute to sharp tailoring the next. Whether she’s in jeans and a tee or a floaty summer dress, Duma can always be relied upon for an outfit idea or two.

The fashion retailer: Lauren Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo is a contributing editor to Vogue and the founder of luxury e-commerce site Moda Operandi. The statuesque Santo Domingo is like a modern day incarnation of an old Hollywood star, her looks are always elegant and always classic and would stand the test of time.

Steal her style: Jamie Chung

23rd September, 2016

A photo posted by Jamie Chung (@jamiejchung) on

Actress Jamie Chung has starred in Sucker Punch, The Hangover Part II and III, Gotham and Once Upon a Time but when she’s not in front of the camera she pens a blog called What the Chung. The blog has everything from travel to beauty but her style posts are definitely the most clickworthy. Chung’s style is the perfect mix of California casual meets polished meets edgy and her looks are definitely worth bookmarking. Here she shows that a pop of colour can really take an outfit to the next level…

Saffron top

This shade of yellow is gorgeous and when in the form of a long sleeved lace top it takes it from being conservative to being fun and fashion forward. To mix up your wardrobe veer outside your usual colour palette and take a walk on the colourful side.

Straight leg jeans

Chung’s high waisted Adriano Goldschmied jeans are without a doubt one of the most popular denim looks of the season. Make sure they’re cropped at the ankle and keep everything else in your outfit quite streamlined to avoid looking too bulky.

Green pumps

Sometimes it pays to do multiple block colours for an eye-catching effect. Yellow and green is normally  a tricky colour combination to pull off (unless you’re on the Austalian Olympic team) but in this instance it works. Chung’s pairing of bottle green pumps with her saffron coloured top works as the shades are both quite subdued and complement rather than compete with each other. Maintaining the same tones works in keeping the look sophisticated.

Steal her style: Gigi Hadid

9th September, 2016

Heading out for the evening Gigi Hadid has nailed the ideal balance between sexy and casual dressing. The low key look is one that can easily be translated into your own wardrobe with a few simple pieces that will also work well with plenty of other pieces. Add a killer bronzed makeup look and you’re ready for a night out.

Waterfall coat

A lightweight waterfall coat is a great cover-up during the trans-seasonal weather. Opt for one in a neutral tone and you’re guaranteed to get plenty of wear out of it.

V-neck top

A v-neck neckline is flattering on most figures as it helps to elongate the body. Hadid’s chosen neckline is quite low cut but if you don’t want anything too risque a simple v-neck bodysuit will work equally as well.

Jeans

Update your denim wardrobe with a pair of straight leg jeans in a vintage wash. It’s a great alternative to your old faithful skinny jeans and is definitely the cut of the season.

Letter necklace

There’s always something special about personalised jewellery. A great letter necklace a la Hadid will make a versatile addition to your accessories collection as it works with virtually any look.

For those who have always been a fan of a classic trench a modern take on it is to opt for a sleeveless version and treat as a layering piece in a similar fashion to a vest. Try it with jeans or leather leggings, the pairing is just perfect.

Lace-up pointed flats

I’ve been seeing plenty if incarnations of pointed lace-up flats from designer version to an inexpensive chain store find. If you’ve been considering buying a pair – do! She does a red carpet showstopper like no other but Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s off-duty style is equally as impressive. She manages to pull together some of the season’s biggest trends – the bomber jacket, ankle boots and top handle bags in one effortless outfit that would work perfectly for a catch up with friends and even casual Fridays at work. The colour palette of grey, khaki and black will always look stylish so file it away as a go-to combination when you’re next planning an outfit.

Bomber jacket

The model showcases the bomber jacket’s appeal with this casual cool ensemble. Think of a bomber as a great alternative to a leather jacket or blazer this season. It’s also the ideal trans-seasonal piece as it works equally as well with jeans as it does with skirts or dresses.

The secret to wearing ankle boots with jeans? Show a hint of ankle a la Huntington-Whiteley by folding your jeans so you can see the entire boot. It’s a more modern take on the look and when you’ve got a great pair of shoes why would you want to hide them?

Black top handle bag

A black handbag is of course a wardrobe staple however update the look and opt for a bag with a top handle. It looks chic and polished and will instantly elevate an outfit. If you can find a bag that also has a shoulder strap, even better as you can wear it multiple ways.

No celebrity ever heads out without a pair of great sunglasses and Huntington-Whiteley is no exception. A pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses are a great alternative to black sunglasses but equally as versatile.

Steal her style: Olivia Palermo

1st July, 2016

olivia-palermo-out-in-new-york-city-january-2016-1-1

Olivia Palermo never ever puts a foot wrong and that applies whether she’s heading to a black tie dinner or simply out for a casual day of shopping. I’m all about winter layering a la Ms Palermo with lots of oversized coats and cosy knits in the equation. A pair of cropped black leather pants will be your best friend throughout winter as it goes with virtually anything and works for myriad occasions. It seems like sneakers are well and truly here to stay and a pair of high tops will take your sneaker game up a notch. This is cool casual with a touch of polish and it works beautifully.

Copy and paste the look into your own wardrobe with some of my top shopping picks below.

Coat

You’ll get plenty of wear out of a simple black coat so don’t be afraid to experiment with different textures whether it be a faux fur or a classic wool to give it a point of difference.

Turtleneck jumper

Cost knits are a wardrobe staple that will last season after season so stock up on lots of neutrals such as white, grey and cream to provide the perfect basics to build upon. There’s something really stylish about a simple turtleneck; it will instantly lend a touch of polish to your outfit.

Black pants

Black pants are a no-brainer during winter. They’re versatile and can easily be dressed up or down and in a fabric such as leather they look very on point. Alternatively a pair of pants in a simple denim will work equally as well.

High top sneakers

Expand your sneaker repertoire with a pair of high tops. They act as a great counterbalance for a super feminine outfit due to their slightly tougher look and you’ll find they are surprisingly versatile and can go with most outfits you’d wear with your regular low-cut sneakers.

Shoulder Bag

A simple leather shoulder bag in a tan or camel is one accessory that will definitely get plenty of use in your wardrobe. It also makes a nice change if you’re bored with your trusty black or brown bag.
