What I Wore: Mum’s Surprise Birthday

13th September, 2022

We recently threw my mum a surprise birthday celebration and it was such an amazing night with my family. Mum had no idea and we picked up her up under the guise of going for a drive and grabbing coffee, but really we had booked a night at Crown Sydney and invited family and her closest friends for a dinner at Italian restaurant, Amare. Needless to say she was thoroughly surprised and I couldn’t think of a person more deserving of such a birthday celebration.

I wanted a great party dress for dinner and couldn’t look past the latest collection by Rachel Gilbert. I saw this mini dress and knew it would be perfect for the occasion. I love dresses that have a bit of a moment at the back and this design definitely delivered with the knotted back feature. The draping at the front is also elegant and I loved how it flared out into a halter neck with the wide straps. There’s also a subtle raised hem at the front which added an element of interest. The silhouette is also really flattering, and features internal boning which helps to streamline the shape. All in all, I highly recommend it if you’re looking for your next event look.

I wanted to keep things fairly simple with this look so opted for minimalist black Giuseppe Zanotti heels. The two-strap design blended seamlessly with the dress, while the crystal heel tied into the knotted feature at the back. I went for an up-do in this instance because when you have a bit of a showstopper detail at the back it has to be able to shine.

What I Wore: Crown Sydney

20th January, 2021

I have a newfound appreciation for a great staycation given border restrictions right now so I was thrilled to be invited to check out the newly opened Crown Sydney in Barangaroo. With a luxe holiday feel, it was the the ideal time to try a few resortwear looks.

The one thing I always do whenever I’m on holiday is embrace a simple colour palette that can be mixed and matched. I went for crisp white and warm neutrals in this instance, wearing some great new pieces from Viktoria and Woods. The white pants I’m wearing below have been such a great addition to my summer wardrobe. They go with virtually anything and can easily be dressed up or down (I’ll definitely bookmark them for when the time comes when we’re able to do overseas trips again).

What’s a holiday without being able to get dressed up for a nice dinner? We were lucky to roadtest one of the new restaurants at the Crown so an LBD seemed the ideal starting point. I opted for a sleek Aje dress with a subtle cut-out and and Bottega Veneta sandals.

While poolside, I embraced one of my fave trends of summer: wearing a one-piece swimsuit with pants. I wore a one-shoulder Bondi Born swimsuit with lightweight wide leg pants by Monday Swimwear, which easily took me from sitting by the pool to being able to grab a bite to eat without missing a beat. Sleek and simple – my fave way to do holiday dressing, near or far.
