She’s a super successful model, has frequently covered the world’s biggest fashion magazines (Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, W and Glamour just to name a few) is a regular member of Taylor Swift’s #squad and does cool model off duty style like a pro. Now Karlie Kloss is giving major outfit inspiration. This week, we officially welcomed the start of spring, which means it’s time to start thinking of light, breezy outfits a la Kloss. The monochrome palette, the wide-legged pants, the sneakers… it all culminates in a relaxed outfit with just the right amount of polish.
Black crop top
Not all of us have supermodel abs so if you’re uncomfortable with a crop top this outfit will work just as well with a normal racerback tee. A simple black top with cut-outs give this outfit some edge, but if you’re after something more classic simply forego the peek-a-boo detailing.
Wide-legged pants can look daunting but are so easy to pull off. The key is to always make sure that you pair it with a fitted top to provide some balance to the volume of the pants. Plus nothing screams spring/summer like a pair of crisp white pants. Be sure to add a belt to break up the outfit and accentuate your waist.
If you haven’t yet added a pair of white sneakers to your wardrobe you don’t know the outfit possibilities you’re missing out on. They’re easily paired with everything from jeans to pants and dresses and are a no-brainer to style as white goes with virtually everything. I promise you’ll wear them to death!
There’s much to love about this Karlie Kloss outfit. It’s an easy fashion formula to follow – denim, neutrals and a touch of leather plus it’s the kind of outfit you could wear when you’re out and about running errands and still head straight to a dinner with friends afterwards. I love an ensemble than can multitask as it takes the stress out of having to come up with multiple outfits and let’s face it who has the time most days? Plus this look just reads super cosy and super comfortable which once again earns it some major brownie points in my book.
Want to recreate the look yourself? Here’s how piece by piece…
I solemnly swear that you will never ever regret buying a great moto leather jacket. I’ve worn mine to death over the years and it’s always that one piece that will pull an outfit together. It works with jeans, dresses, skirts, even shorts so you’re definitely going to get bang for your fashion buck.
I’m one for having loads of cosy knits stockpiled in my wardrobe because they’re guaranteed to get a solid workout throughout the cooler months. A neutral tone will work back with just about everything and a turtleneck neckline will give it a classy touch.
It’s great to have a different washes in your denim wardrobe to suit different occasions. Dark denim is great if you’re going for a dressier vibe but light denim is a winner when you’re doing weekend/casual wear.
Black ballet flats
A pair of black ballet flats will be a guaranteed workhorse in your wardrobe. A sleek, understated style with minimal embellishment will allow you to extend the wear for multiple occasions and it’s super comfy, too.
Black quilted bag
I have had my classic quilted Chanel bag for years and it’s definitely been an investment I haven’t regretted. It’s a classic silhouette which will last the test of time. However there are plenty of quilted styles out there for you to choose from if you don’t want to make quite that big a splurge.
Karlie Kloss was recently named as Swarovski’s new brand ambassador and of course a soiree was thrown in her honour in New York. The cut-out dress gave a touch of sexiness to her LBD and matched with black stilettos and just a touch of sparkle it was understated glamour at its finest.
There are times where the simplest outfits are the best – and this is one of them. Karlie Kloss looks effortlessly chic in plain black pants, ballet flats and a grey polo neck. Sometimes you just don’t want to overthink things and step out in something classic and pared back.
