5 of my favourite things this month

23rd January, 2019

What’s currently putting a smile on my face? These five things are definitely getting my tick of approval.

Christian Louboutin Nosy 100 T-bar pumps

PVC shoes have become quite the thing but as a whole might be a little too much for me. Which is why I love these T-bar heels. The subtle PVC detail is a nod to the trend without being overwhelming and I like the elegant strap.

Max Mara Ingrid sunglasses

How cool are these frames? The cat-eye shape with tortoiseshell detail manages to incorporate two of my favourite things in the one style of sunnies.

Saba Dharma culottes

Culottes are such a chic way to do smart casual and this pair is ideal for weekends relaxing. Also, the colour is great for summer.

I’m trying to get a bit more active this year and this is a great way to keep track of how much activity I’m doing.

Mimco Waver baby bag

I don’t need to carry a proper baby bag much these days but I discovered this and couldn’t resist. Lots of compartments for organisation and it looks understated and sleek. If you’ve got a baby shower coming up, this little number is well worth considering.

What’s on your list of favourite things this month?

What I Wore: Statement Stripes

20th February, 2018

Dresses are always an easy option simply because it requires zero further thought in terms of having to think of what top will match with which bottom. Whenever I wear one I just throw on accessories and I’m done.

This Maggie Marilyn dress is particularly great as I love that it manages to combine a few interesting finishes in one with out it being over the top. The simple slip dress silhouette is elevated by the mixture of statement stripes in candy shades along with the ruffles along the top (if you like this here’s another way to combine the stripes and ruffles, I also like this look) which all add up to a dramatic, yet wearable style.

It’s really a must to let a dress such as this to be the focal point of an ensemble so I opted to keep things quite simple. Metallic Maje slides are the ideal complementary colour whilst neutral accessories in the form a blush Mimco bag and black sunglasses are understated and don’t overwhelm such a standout piece.

Tell me—are you a fan of statement dresses? Do you like mixing different finishing details such as stripes and ruffles?

Hip bags, 3 ways

16th July, 2017

Pint-sized shoulder bags are a winter must-have. They’re ideal for a night out as they leave your hands free for juggling canapes and cocktails, and for all day as a compact way of carrying your (smaller) essentials.

Golden Hour

If you want to elevate a look, the addition of a gilded accessory is a guaranteed way to make something look luxe. Team this bag with a classic top-to-toe black ensemble for the ultimate in effortless chic.

Texture Tails

MIMCO’s Trance Mini Hip (in Black/Alabaster) packs a sartorial punch with the combination of mirrored details, metal studs and a beautiful scalloped strap. It’s an eclectic mix but when worked back with muted tones such as black and grey it’s striking rather than overwhelming.

Feeling rosy

Every girl should own a neutral bag that she can easily pair with numerous looks. This bag works for a simple day of errands, as well as for the transition to an evening event. Whilst it can easily remain in regular rotation in your wardrobe, the rose gold finishes keep it from being boring.

What I Wore: Australian Fashion Week 2017 Day One

14th May, 2017

The first show of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia was Dion Lee, and as a huge fan of his designs I wanted to show my support so opted for a sweater and pleated skirt from his label. I went for a full navy look but worked in different textures in order to break the outfit up and avoid the colour looking too overwhelming. Also the weather was quite cool so it was great to be in a knit to keep warm as the show took place outdoors on the Opera House forecourt. I wanted to wear statement jewellery to add some punch to my outfit so opted for rose gold earrings and a smattering of cocktail rings. My Bulgari bag was also in navy so was in keeping with the colour palette of the day, whilst the Mimco bag/wallet added a touch of colour. And of course one of my favourite Alaïa heels had to cap off the look and my round frame Miu Miu sunglasses added a touch of fun to my ensemble. Bring on the rest of the week!

How to do winter’s biggest accessories trends

24th April, 2017

When it comes to winter dressing I like to mix it up between moody, dark styling and light, bright looks so my accessories have to be able to follow suit. Here’s how I do it…

Moody and dark

Wearing a head-to-toe black look can sometimes look a little too intense so I like to break it up with contrasting prints such as this oversized houndstooth coat and a sprinkling of accessories. I like to keep my accessories in subdued tones but love to be able tap into the season’s biggest trends. For this particular look I’ve opted for Mimco’s mini chain strap bag (if it’s a big day out I’ll swap it out for a big black tote to be able to carry all my essentials) and a black timepiece and simple jewellery. This is my go-to when I’m after a look that’s classic but with a few contemporary touches.

Light and bright

If I’m doing an outfit in lighter tones I like to opt for more vibrant accessories to build on the pared back palette. In this instance a pair of Mimco statement earrings, oversized sunglasses and a block colour envelope clutch (love the burgundy accent) are the ideal way to bring this particular outfit to life. I usually keep my accessories in similar tones to help tie the look together from head to toe, but in doing so I can afford to mix various styles from the art deco inspired earrings to a modern clutch without it looking haphazard.

What I Wore: White on White

5th April, 2017

I’ve always been a fan of a head-to-toe white ensemble – it’s chic and elegant and really makes quite an impactful style statement. I don’t often wear suits but I couldn’t resist this ensemble. Double breasted jackets have experienced a resurgence of late but in a more modern incarnation – the boxy cuts are gone and in its place is a more streamlined silhouette which makes for a more flattering fit. I love that this jacket is also really versatile and can work easily with the rest of my wardrobe whether thrown over a dress or teamed with jeans. If there’s one thing that goes beautifully with a crisp white outfit it’s gold accessories. In this instance I’ve opted for gilded statement earrings to complement my look. With the addition of a neutral oversized clutch and simple black heels I’m ready to conquer the day ahead.

What I Wore: A touch of metal

21st March, 2017

Now that the weather has started to cool down it’s the perfect time to start introducing luxe winter fabrics into my wardrobe. This metallic jacquard skirt by Life with Bird is the ideal statement piece from which to work back the rest of my look. I wanted to keep the rest of my outfit quite simple and elegant so I opted to team the skirt with a black ribbed knit funnel neck top and black accessories to allow the skirt to take centre stage. A simple oversized clutch is large enough to fit all my everyday essentials and is work and event appropriate, whilst my Mimco strappy heels are perfect for taking me from the office to a function with ease.

What I Wore: A Touch of Gold

9th February, 2017

Black dresses have always been one of my go-to wardrobe staples . This Ginger and Smart dress is one of my favourite recent off-the-shoulder wardrobe additions. I’ve teamed the dress with my strappy Mimco heels. The muted tones of my shoes keep my look paired back. I haven’t added in any extra colour so that the gold strap of my dress really pops. I decided to stick to the one hue and wear an oversized Mimco clutch with the outfit.  Scroll below to shop or steal the look

Desk to Dinner

23rd January, 2017

When it comes to my work life I’m constantly on the go…a day in the office, interviewing someone at a stylish lunch venue, or attending an evening cocktail event. When I get dressed I need pieces that can take me effortlessly from day to night. My wardrobe philosophy is all about finding pieces that are versatile and that can be styled for work, the weekend and everything in between. I’ve collaborated with MIMCO to showcase how you can take three key accessories from desk to dinner.

THE CLUTCH

If you want one key piece to nail this trend, an oversized clutch is the way to go. The clutch has always been an evening favourite,  but let’s be honest…they usually only fit a lipstick and your phone! With a larger style, all of your daytime essentials will fit.

THE STATEMENT EARRING

Statement earrings are not just for the evening, they can also bring suiting to life as they add a soft, feminine touch. But of course, they are also the perfect addition when dressing up for a formal affair.

THE HEELS

Statement heels are my must-have…I team them with all my looks. People often think they are only reserved for a night-time affair, but when they’re paired with muted tones during day your outfit will pop.
