What I Wore: NGV Gala

5th December, 2018

Black tie events are always so much fun to attend partly because of the sheer enjoyment that comes from being able to get really dressed up. Being able to wear an amazing ball gown is a huge departure from my usual uniform of jeans and sneakers so it was so exciting to be able to attend the NGV Gala over the weekend and really dial up the glamour.

The Steven Khalil dress I wore was an absolute dream. I tried on a few options but I immediately loved the fitted bodice and full skirt of the dress when I saw it. Elegant and sexy all at the same time, plus you really can’t go wrong with black when it comes to dressy occasions.

Wearing black often requires statement accessories to lift it and give it some depth so I opted for a fun metallic pink Bvlgari bag from my wardrobe. It’s a shade that makes a great contrast piece and added a nice pop of colour to my ensemble. As far as jewellery went, I went for a pair of amazing drop earrings and a bangle. Just enough bling to stand out without it being too overwhelming.

It was so much fun to be able to step away from my everyday wardrobe and explore such a high glam look. Every girl needs a reason to get dolled up once and awhile, right?

Journey to the NGV Gala

3rd December, 2018

Over the weekend I had the honour of being invited to attend the NGV Gala in Melbourne. It’s an incredible event that that takes place at the National Gallery of Victoria. It’s always such a beautiful occasion with an interesting mix of high profile guests (this year the likes of Natalie Portman and Poppy Delevingne were in attendance at the event) and top notch entertainment. The event was in partnership with American Express this year, with a lot of the focus on platinum moments. One aspect of which was a gorgeous gown created especially for the event to celebrate the launch of the exhibition Escher x nendo ‘Between Two Worlds’ at the gallery. The creation was by couture designer Paolo Sebastian and inspired the American Express Platinum card, and the dress Poppy Delevingne wore on the night.

The lead up and prep for an event like this is hectic so as a long time American Express card holder, I was glad to have it by my side the entire time. From booking flights, to hair and makeup and my beautiful Steven Khalil dress, it made the entire process easier and made my journey to the NGV Gala a seamless one. And when you’re frantically trying to get all the elements of attending a black tie event locked in you definitely don’t want any hiccups along the way.

My outfit was by far the most important thing to lock in for this event so I was glad to have the assistance of my go-to stylist Jess Pecoraro to help me out. We both knew Steven Khalil would have something perfect for the event so I spent some time in his showroom trying on difference dresses before I eventually decided on the black ball gown that I wore on Saturday.

Having decided on a dress I opted for a beautiful Bvlgari metallic pink bag and earrings and bangle to accessorise my look. Simple, elegant, but also with just the right glam factor to make them perfect for the event.

Keeping a similar theme for my beauty look, I went with something sleek and unfussy—a slicked back hairstyle and warm, glowy makeup seemed just the right vibe to complement my ensemble.

The night itself was as luxe as it comes. Being able to attend a special dinner surrounded by artwork, all glammed up and mingling with the likes of Poppy Delevingne at my table was such a wonderful way to spend an evening. It’s definitely an event that I hope I’ll be lucky enough to attend again in the near future.
