Fashion, What I Wore

What I Wore: Spring Racing launch dinner at Nobu

20th October, 2018

Earlier this week I hosted a dinner to kick off the Spring Racing Carnival at one of my favourite restaurants, Nobu at the Crown Resort in Melbourne. It was a small gathering of 30 people, comprising of family, friends and a few local media and I wanted the evening to be relaxed, fun and a great way to lead into one of my favourite (and busiest!) times of year. For such an event, I knew I wanted my outfit to be sleek, directional and incorporating a few elevated touches.

I worked with a good stylist friend for this particular occasion as my schedule was so frantic in the lead up to it that I knew I would need a little help pulling a look together. The standout piece of this ensemble was definitely the Maticevski skirt. I wish I could have shown you all in person, as it really is a knockout. The intricate detail, the elegant ruffles, the beautiful lace all combined made for a really striking effect. The addition of the cummerbund provided a strong contrast to the glamorous, feminine nature of the skirt. We decided on keeping the rest of my outfit quite simple so we simply paired the skirt with a white button down shirt from my closet—classic and elegant.

Given the monochrome colour palette, the ideal shoe came in the form of a pair of crossover strap heels from the recent collaboration between Off-White and Jimmy Choo. They were black and white (box ticked!) and had tiny writing on the straps which given my shoes were on show definitely gave them an interesting point of difference. The shoes were the perfect full stop to the rest of my look.

I often like having an outfit pulled together for me as it allows me to explore different looks, push my fashion boundaries and give my style a refresh. This look in particular, I think, was ideal for the occasion and had some great details that lifted it and gave it an edge.
