Fashion & Beauty, What I Wore

What I Wore: Light As a Feather

12th January, 2022

Suits are always a staple in my wardrobe and what I’m loving right now is how there are so many different iterations of suiting doing the rounds. You can go from sleek and sharp, to one with a relaxed silhouette to something fun and playful like this suit by Rachel Gilbert. While a black suit is always a classic item in anyone’s wardrobe, what I love about this design is that it flips the concept of it with the addition of the feather trim. I’m seeing feathers appearing in so many different collections from my fave designers, and I have to say I’m a huge fan. It’s a detail that can completely change the direction of an outfit into something kittenish and a little glam, like something a classic beauty in an old movie would have in their closet. With this particular look, the suit features a modern cut-out, and a wide leg pant which makes it feel right on trend, but the addition of the feathered cuffs just sets it apart and makes it look and feel bold. I also opted to wear the jacket on its own in this instance, showing a subtle flash of skin which offers just a hint of sexiness to this look.

I couldn’t really go past the Bottega Veneta heels for this particular ensemble. These black heels have been a workhorse in my wardrobe of late as they go with virtually anything. I think pairing them with this black suit helps offset the slightly softer nature of the feathered jacket, with the contemporary design of the heel. Plus the minimalist, pared back design doesn’t end up competing with the bolder feel of the suit, achieving just the right kind of balance.
