Let me take you behind the scenes at the Wanderluxe Mini Me collection launch…

3rd May, 2023

Working on a project for several months, it’s always nice to see it finally come to fruition. I so enjoyed my time working on a mini me collection with Wanderluxe Sleepwear and I was excited to finally launch it out into the world. We decided to go with a kid-friendly/parent-friendly event and hosted an afternoon tea (I purposely wanted it to be timed to take place after school pick up). A private residence in Sydney’s Rose Bay provided the ideal backdrop. It was such a gorgeous location and the house was stunning and had plenty of room outside for the kids to relax and run around.

I didn’t want the event to be overly structured, just an easy, relaxed afternoon. I invited my family plus a few friends and their children to enjoy some after school snacks and also check out the pyjamas in the collection. We served a light snack of chicken sandwiches, fruit and cupcakes (and some champagne for the grown ups!). I wanted the parents to be able to mill around and catch up with other guests so there were plenty of activities for the kids. We had games and a crafting station where kids could create their own Mother’s Day cards, which my girls particularly loved.

It was the ideal way to spend a perfect sunny afternoon in Sydney. And such a lovely way to mark the launch of this collection. Check out a few behind the scenes snaps below…

What I Wore: Wanderluxe Mini Me Launch

2nd May, 2023

Despite being on the cusp of winter starting, Sydney has put on some truly beautiful days of late. The sunshine was in full swing at the launch of my new collaboration with Wanderluxe Sleepwear so I wanted to go for a look that was feminine with some lightness to it. This dress is a new season piece from Aussie brand Rachel Gilbert and it fit the brief perfectly. The maxi silhouette has a quiet elegance to it which was perfect being the host of the event. The floral print and the mixed colour palette of varying shades of blue gave the dress a lovely whimsical feel, but the clean lines of the collar and the billowy sleeves gave it some balance and avoided everything becoming too saccharine. I’m petite, so whenever there’s volume involved I always need an element that’s cinched in to avoid it overwhelming my frame so the matching waist tie with scallop detail was perfect.

I wanted a heel that was going to complement the dress so I knew it had to be something in white to pick up on the crispness of the dress. I decided on these Aje heels as the strappy design, not to mention the fact they were the ideal height, designated them to be the perfect shoe to finish off this look. The dress already had a lot of design touches that made it stand out, a shoe that was bold, yet not over the top was needed to avoid both elements competing against each other. Also, I love the fact I was able to support two of my fave Aussie brands, while also debuting a collection with a great Aussie small business.

My new mini me collaboration with Wanderluxe Sleepwear

14th April, 2023

I’m big on pyjamas. In fact, it’s one of my go-to gifts. I love buying PJs as gifts for the kids, and often buy matching ones for my kids and their cousins over holiday periods such as Easter and Christmas. It’s cute to see the girls and my nieces and nephew wearing the same sets when we’re all spending these occasions together as a family on my parents’ farm. So, it was this that inspired my new kids’ collection with Wanderluxe sleepwear.

Having previously collaborated with Wanderluxe on a sleepwear range, we wanted to team up again and I knew this was the perfect next project together. Following on from the success of my first collection, it seemed the ideal progression to move onto a mini me collection and matching sets for the whole family. As a mum, I buy kids’ PJs a lot so I wanted to create something that was comfortable, stylish and fun.

When it comes to sleepwear for kids, I favour classic cuts and prints. This was something I took into account when working on the range, so we went for a navy pinstripe and a baby blue stripe which are the kinds of prints that have longevity. They’re also great prints for adults, so perfect for the whole family. Having ticked the classics box I also wanted to have a bit of fun so I worked on a pink and orange set. That particular set is Sophia and Grace’s favourite, and they actually helped me choose the perfect shade of pink and orange to use. The girls were a major part of the creative process on this collab, which I really enjoyed. The whole collaboration took a few months from start to finish, from selecting all the fabrics to having samples made and altering designs to countless Zoom meetings with the team at Wanderluxe, so I’m thrilled to finally see everything come to fruition.

The collaboration became quite the family affair as we shot the campaign at the farm, and the girls (and even Luke!) were also able to feature in the shoot. The kids always have a great time shooting, and it was so special to have them be part of launching the collection.

My Wanderluxe Sleepwear collection is here!

15th November, 2021

I’m a big pyjama person. I love them so much that it’s not uncommon for me to come home after work, shower and change straight into my pyjamas. The same goes for my girls. They’ll often come home from school and get into their pjs to mark the time to relax, unwind and spent some down time as a family. With my penchant for all things sleepwear, I was so thrilled to be approached to design my own collection!

Earlier in the year, I hosted a Mother’s Day lunch for Wanderluxe Sleepwear and immediately fell in love with the brand. There was a great connection and I felt an affinity to everything the brand is, particularly their design aesthetic, attention to detail and focus on fine tailoring. The pyjamas themselves are unbelievably comfortable with a focus on using beautiful, soft fabrics to create pieces that you’ll want to lounge in all day. I was honoured to be asked to collaborate with Wanderluxe as it’s such a dream to be able to curate and design a collection that focuses on one of my most frequently used staples—pyjamas!

The broader theme of my collection is a “A Sunday Well Spent” and I wanted the collection to be the kind of sleepwear that you want to spend a lazy, leisurely morning in. Every single piece in the collection is a reflection of my own style, including my appreciation of good tailoring, and in particular my love of colour. My inspiration for the colour palette used in the collection is based on an Australian summer, from the purple of jacaranda trees, the neverending crisp blue sky, and the pink and red tones of summer florals, plus there’s a horseshoe or two in a nod to my horse racing background. It really is me in sleepwear form!

I know everyone has their own individual preferences when it comes to pjs so there’s a variety of different silhouettes in this collection. From a night shirt, to a boxer set to a camisole slip dress, there’s a style to suit every kind of preference. I wanted to bring a resort-style luxuriousness to each piece in this collection and I hope that you’ll find something you’ll want to wear to bed, to relax and beyond.

The Kate Waterhouse x Wanderluxe Sleepwear collection is now available at wanderluxe.com and at David Jones (in-store and online). If you want an extra special touch monogramming is also available!
