She leads a busy life as a mum, wife to cricketer Michael Clarke and founder of lifestyle site Lyfestyled and homewares store LS Homewares but in between all that Kyly Clarke also penned a tome dedicated to finding happiness in life called True to You. Here, she reveals her daily inspirations, how she stays fit and healthy and what she loves to do when she manages to find some time to relax…
What inspired you to write a book?
I come across so many people that seem to not be able to find true happiness or be content with where they are or what they want or currently have in life. I have always found life to be a very fine balance of all things, and the process in which to achieve it a juggling act that needs a combination of gratitude, patience and calmness, positivity, drive, and love. I was inspired to express ways in which I felt may be able to help others in their day to day lives, and ways in which they can view each situation through another set of eyes.
What did you most enjoy about the process?
Soul searching, I loved digging deep and finding the true meanings to our feelings, ways in which we can better our daily process of emotions.
What inspires you in everyday life?
It’s now [Clarke’s daughter] Kelsey Lee that inspires me. She inspires me to be a better mother, a better daughter, a better wife and all round person. Seeing my daughter smile and wanting to leave a legacy she is proud to say that was what her Mumma achieved. Also seeing others succeed inspires me.
Your life can sometimes be the focus of intense media attention, how do you deal with it?
I live my life to the beat of my own drum, cameras or no cameras I just stay true to myself. Live out my goals, push myself to be the version of me. Whatever they catch on camera just makes for a great album.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Never be the smartest person in the room. And you have two ears and one mouth for a reason, Listen more and talk less.
What’s your life motto?
Be true to yourself. Stay true to your values and morals and be venerable, love with all your heart.
Being a mum now, are there any life lessons or advice you’d really like to pass on to your daughter?
Your mum truly does know best. I’m not saying it because I am her mother, I say it because we all learn it the hard way. My mother is a wise woman and would always tell me that she has lived the life I am living, or has walked down the same path, but because it is your mum and mums are normally not cool at that age we don’t listen to them wholeheartedly. I hope Kelsey Lee is a smart enough cookie to see it for what it is. On another note I would advise her to not give in to any kind of peer pressure. Be strong and honour your own thoughts, beliefs and what you care about. Know that what you value is worth standing for.
How has being a mum influenced your style?
I always love sporty outfits for doing my daily errands and now having a bub has just cemented that. They are so easy to wear, colourful to brighten your day, and now with the help of fashion forward looks you can really express your personality through the edgy styles available.
What’s your current go-to look?
Besides my sports outfits I would wear my fave Jac and Jack low crotch Byron pant, a Bassike white tee and some cool flats.
You have an incredibly busy schedule. What do you like doing when you’ve managed to carve out some time to relax?
Just time with Kelsey Lee on her play mat is what I cherish. Seeing her smile and giggle makes my heart content. I can’t tell you how much I love her and how much I enjoy watching her grow and develop. It honestly is the world’s best achievement in life.
Your website Lyfestyled seems to have a large focus on staying fit and eating well. What’s your current fave way to exercise? How do you maintain a healthy diet?
My favourite way to exercise is 29 minutes of Plyometric work. We have put up some great videos of what I do on my blog lyfestyled.com.au it is a great cardio work out with muscle toning elements and overall a fun way to push yourself and punch out a hard 29-minute session!
A healthy diet to me is about having the right foods in your home, especially go-to snacks when you are busy with your work or your baby. Coming to winter we always opt for the carb style meals and snacks and that’s when determination and strong willpower needs to kick in. I love having warm dinners with chicken or fish and vegetables, foods that give you great nutrients. I always have snacks with me so I never have to pick up a bad one. Like Macro snack bite balls from Woolworths, Slim Secrets protein bars for evening pick-me-ups, and natural Macro nuts like almonds, brazil nuts or cashews—good healthy fats.
