What I Wore: The Wild One

12th February, 2019

I think it’s important to push your fashion boundaries and explore different looks and as I tend to favour neutrals and subdued prints more often than not I was in the mood to do something a little different recently. Enter this red, leopard print co-ord set by Veronika Maine which most definitely fit the bill. The vibrant, fiery red worked back with such a striking print really made me stop and take notice. There’s an element of fun with it but I also like the fact that the shirt and skirt are such a classic silhouette that it provides some balance to the overall look.

Black and red are such a great combination that I knew that I wanted to keep the colour scheme throughout, including with my accessories. I opted for a pair of triangular cat-eye sunglasses which I think ties in well with the edgy vibe of the print and colour of my outfit. I wanted a slightly more modern looking bag and a really cute option came in the form of this diminutive Prada bucket bag. It also ticks another box for me, which is versatility, as I can carry the bag by its handle or alternatively use the bag strap to go hands free. Topping off my look were these sleek Aquazzura heels. I love the simple, streamlined silhouette but with a ladylike bow at the back to help soften the look. A definite welcome addition to my wardrobe.

What I Wore: Dusty Rose

17th July, 2018

When the perfect colour just jumps out at you and you know you have to wear it… that’s exactly what happened when I saw this top and skirt by Maggie Marilyn. With the off-the-shoulder style taking centre stage the last few seasons this ruched top with its asymmetric neckline and butterfly sleeve seemed so fresh and different. It had a quiet understated polish that I really loved whilst still maintaining just a small hint of sexiness with a flash of skin. The skirt with its wrap detail helped give the outfit some depth, and added an element of drama that provided the perfect counterpoint to the ultra feminine feel of the top.

I really didn’t want to overshadow the rose hue of this ensemble so I made a point of keeping all my accessories in a neutral colour palette. My round frame sunglasses added a playful touch to the classic feel of the top and skirt. Meanwhile I knew I wanted to add a dramatic flair with my choice of shoes so it seemed fitting to incorporate my tie-up Aquazzura heels. They added just the right amount of edge to this look, helping to toughen up a look that’s sweet and soft. After all, my motto when it comes to how I dress is all about balance. That and when you see something in the perfect colour make sure you don’t pass it up.

What I Wore: Getting Cosy

2nd June, 2016

IMG_4739Temperatures how really dropped of late so it’s now time to officially pull out all my cosy winter gear. This great cardigan by Life with Bird is the ideal go-to piece to throw on over a tee, and the black and white grid pattern gives it a great point of difference. I searched high and low for a pair of jeans that would easily transition from day to night and this pair by Camilla and Marc is the perfect shade of blue to be a bit of a wardrobe chameleon; it can easily work for a variety of different looks. My Preen sunglasses have been on high rotation of late because they’re so versatile and I love that the cat-eye detail gives them a bit of a vintage feel. I’ve teamed this look with my Proenza Schouler clutch and Aquazurra heels to give it a dressier feel but if could easily be dressed down with a pair of sneakers and a tote for casual weekend wear.

What I Wore: Light and Shade

KW AKMAL SAKE-2

Monochrome is always a winning combination. Prints can be tricky to work with at times but when in black and white it simplifies the look and provides an anchor point for the rest of your outfit. I kept this look quite subdued with black accessories but you could always choose to make a statement and add a pop of colour instead. I loved the bare back of this dress and when worn with a plain bralette it’s more edgy than risque.

What I Wore: Yellow

29th March, 2016

I don’t always wear yellow but couldn’t resist this this look from Manning Cartell’s autumn/winter collection. Black leather pants have always been a staple in my winter wardrobe but I think it’s fun mix it up and do leather in different colours, especially in a shade that really pops. Whilst striking, when you do coloured leather it can admittedly be a little trickier. To make it work you can either do one colour head to toe like I’ve done or pair it with neutral tones like black, white or grey. Mixing textures such as adding a knitted turtleneck is also key to achieving the right balance to this particular style.

You can’t go wrong with leather pants and statement heels so I opted for my Wild Thing fringed stilettos by Aquazurra to finish off the look. I kept my accessories low key to let the outfit take centre stage so I worked it back with  TRIWA sunglasses and a navy clutch by The Daily Edited.

I have been looking for a pair of jeans for ages so I was pretty happy when I found this perfect pair from Camilla & Marc. It’s just the right fit, length and shade and I can see myself wearing it to death in the months to come.

Who else has fallen in love with the current off-the-shoulder trend? I have, so this top with its fringing and flared sleeves had my heart immediately. The crisp white also makes it really easy to work back with loads of different pieces.

My current shoe situation is all about my new Aquazzura heels. The ankle ties, tassels and fringing work so perfectly well together that they’re definitely my current statement heel of choice.

Shop the look: Ladies who lunch

28th December, 2015

Long lunches in the sun are synonymous with an Australian summer. I love this time of year when I can catch up with my girlfriends and enjoy a cocktail or two over a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s also the perfect time to get a little dressed up. Here’s an outfit I’m definitely planning to add to my wardrobe this summer…

HEELS:   Aquazzura

Aquazzura are just nailing the statement shoe this season. I love the fringing detail on these stilettos as they add a little fun to an outfit.

BAG: Chloe

A simple shoulder bag is the perfect accessory for a dressy lunch look. I love the grey tone of this particular bag as it’s ideal for mixing and matching with a variety of different outfits.

LIPGLOSS: Bobbi Brown

When it comes to a daytime look keep things simple as far as your makeup goes but a neutral lipgloss is the perfect finishing touch.

RINGS: Samantha Wills

Stacked rings show no sign of going away anytime soon, this set from Samantha Wills is great for working back with a multitude of different looks, but gold works especially well with a crisp white outfit.

DRESS: Zimmermann

I don’t think there’s anything Zimmermann have released of late that I haven’t immediately wanted to put on my shopping list. A white summer dress is the perfect go-to lunch outfit and the broderie anglaise detail on this particular style just takes it to the next level.

What I Wore: MBFWA Opening Night

13th April, 2015

IMG_5280

I knew I wanted something glamorous to wear to attend the opening night of Fashion Week and I already had the perfect dress in mind! I spotted this Salvatore Ferragamo dress in a fashion editorial and knew I had to have it. It’s a beautiful knit with a great snakeskin detail around the collar so I wore my snakeskin Aquazzura heels to match. I popped a black blazer on over the top which I find is a great way to make it through autumn when the weather is a little unpredictable during the evening.
