As with most things Kate Middleton does when it comes to fashion and beauty, there’s a mad scramble to nab whatever dress/bag/shoes or in this case hair accessory she’s wearing. Recently the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in a black velvet J.Crew hair bow and as expected it has now sold out. And what’s so great about this trend is that it’s inexpensive but can turn a humble ponytail into something classy and elegant (the perfect go-to for those days when you just don’t have the time or inclination to really do your hair). And the best bit is hair bows come in many difference incarnations from a hair tie, to a headband or clip, so you’re bound to find the perfect one to suit your fashion aesthetic (and patience to style your hair).
The humble bow has also been seen on the red carpet worn by the likes of Sienna Miller, Emily Ratajkowski and Margot Robbie who each gave their respective looks a touch of old school hair appeal. I’m also a huge fan of the trend, having recently embraced it at this year’s Melbourne Cup with an oversized hair bow by Nerida Winter.
