Fashion, What I Wore

What I Wore: 2018 Melbourne Cup

6th November, 2018

I cannot believe Melbourne Cup is here again! It’s always one of the most exciting days on the spring racing calendar and I look forward to it every year. When it comes to this particular day the fashion brief is loads of colour and definitely more scope to push the boundaries. I wanted to do something that was vibrant and fun and couldn’t resist this floral Miu Miu dress. The punchy green and oversized flowers and paint splatters work together to create a striking effect. I decided to wear the dress with the straps worn slightly off the shoulder but they can also be worn straight which I love as it offers a little extra versatility with the dress. The ruching at the side is also a big plus as it always gives a really flattering effect.

I saw these Ferragamo wedge mules and instantly knew they would be perfect for the day. The wedge/mule hybrid is a little different and adds an interesting silhouette to my look. Additionally I loved the gold panel on the heel which is a great complementary shade to the green of my dress. Bright and bold really was the main theme throughout this look and the pink Bvlgari Serpenti bag added another pop of colour that further lifted the look.

Adding the final finishing touch to my look were the most beautiful pieces from the jeweller, Chaumet. I was particularly enamoured by the Hortensia Malachite earrings which perfectly complemented my dress and added an elegant and understated element to my outfit. With all the prints and colour in my outfit I wanted to keep my headpiece quite simple and one of my favourite milliners Nerida Winter definitely delivered. The cream oversized bow gave my look a statement feature from behind and was the ideal feature piece to cap off my Melbourne Cup ensemble.
