What I Wore: Lip Queen

17th January, 2023

Every once in awhile you just have to let your shoes do the talking. I’ve always been a huge fan of Christian Louboutin, because who can resist the appeal of that signature red sole, right? While Louboutins have always been synonymous with sleek, classic style, what I fell in love with when it came to these heels is how playful they are. The lipstick tube heel gives it a light-hearted touch while the gold lips are a fun feature. The patent leather finish adds to the party feel of this particular style, while the gold on black colour combination makes it quite versatile which is why it has become a favourite for events. There’s just something about being able to wear a shoe with unexpected details that makes them the perfect statement-making finish to an ensemble.

So, what to wear with the party shoe of party shoes? Well how about embracing a little celestial action. This Love Shack Fancy maxi dress echoes the gold and black of the shoes but the star pattern definitely elevates it and gives it an extra layer of personality. Also, I love the polished feel that the long sleeves and maxi length provides. That said, those features could swamp a small frame like mine which is why I like the cut-outs which add an on trend element, but also helps to break up what could have been a slightly too heavy silhouette for me.

With the combination of the starry dress and lip queen heels, this is certainly one look that fully embraces the fun and frivolity that can go hand in hand with fashion.

What I wore this week: Events looks

28th July, 2022

It was while I was scrolling through my phone that I ended up taking a trip down memory lane and revisiting some of my fave events looks of late. From parties to race days and launches, I’m so fortunate to be able to attend so many great events throughout the year and as a result it gives me the opportunity to frock up and embrace some pretty amazing looks. It’s hard to narrow it down to faves, but these are a few that I’ve worn and loved.

I wore this look to a Dior event and the Love Shack Fancy dress was truly out of this world good. The gold star motif really dialled up the glam but offered a playful edge. Long sleeve dresses are always so classically elegant, but offset by the cut-outs and the thigh high split, the dress evoked just the right balance of sexy. I went for a simple pair of Bottega Veneta heels and in a nod to the event’s host, a Dior clutch.

Designer crossover collabs have become quite the thing and one of my favourite results was this Fendace collection. A partnership between Fendi and Versace, the result was this beyond sleek evening look, with safety pin detail in a nod to Versace’s infamous safety pin dress worn by Liz Hurley in the 90s. When wearing such a knockout style, I knew accessories needed to be kept to a minimum and as unfussy as possible. So, I opted for a pair of black Louboutin pumps and a gold Fendi clutch.

I was attending the launch of Phantom of the Opera on Sydney Harbour and always enjoy glamming up for the theatre. I went with this chocolate Bec and Bridge slip dress. The silhouette and neckline was simple and understated but with a statement detail in the form of the thigh high split, it was definitely event-ready. I didn’t want to take away from the dress so I went for ultra pared back black Jimmy Choo heels and a pair of gold Aje drop earrings to tie it all together.

In racing mode with this look that I wore to the Crown VRC launch. I’m loving suiting as an events look, and am always into experimenting with different cuts and colours. This Louis Vuitton double breasted suit had ample amounts of polish, but the details gave it some edge. The contrasting pinstripe down the pant legs and the contrast of the mohair trimmed lapel on the double breasted jacket made this look feel quite modern and on trend. And what better way to finish off with footwear than with a pair of black LV heels?

What I wore this week

4th February, 2022

It’s been a big week! My youngest daughter, Grace started school and there’s been a few things on the go on the work front. In between the busyness, I’ve had fun playing with some great looks, particularly bold, bright pieces that are perfect for the last month of summer, and some beautifully dainty and feminine pieces. Here’s what I wore this week.

A great blouse and jeans is one of my favourite outfit shortcuts. This embroidered Alemais blouse is always a playful option with denim, and these patent green heels add a nice splash of colour. This is further proof that if you find a good pair of jeans, you’re guaranteed to be able to create multiple looks.

There’s something about cheery colours that instantly lift my mood. This vibrant pink denim dress is just the right kind of hue to energise me for the day ahead—if I’m ever feeling flat, I always put on a bold colour and it instantly perks me up. I paired this with black Bottega Veneta heels and a pair of statement earrings to elevate it.

How cute is this cardigan? I love the sweet embroidery and the pastel mint combination. Wearing cardis as a top is one of my fave trends of late, and this one works well worn back with white jeans. I went for comfort in this instance with gold flats and another beautiful pastel hue, in the form of this mini baby pink Chanel bag.

I categorise jumpsuits in the same camp as dresses—an easy outfit option when you just can’t be bothered thinking of what to wear. I like the relaxed cut and high collar of this particular style, not to mention the statement sleeve. For the ultimate in comfort dressing, I wore these Proenza Schouler Birkenstocks, and my favourite Prada bucket bag, which is both practical and a chic option for daytime looks.
