The best prints and patterns for autumn/winter

17th March, 2020

When it comes to autumn/winter dressing, particularly with autumn carnival racewear don’t be afraid to embrace bold prints and patterns. While florals are synonymous with spring, there are still plenty of ways to embrace it, and other prints when temperatures start to dip and we are all embracing cool weather dressing. In fact, it’s one of my favourite ways to lift an outfit in a truly effortless way—just add a striking pattern and you’re done.

Adopting a print to your outfit in autumn/winter is all about the colour palette you choose. You can adopt whatever print you want, but just make sure it’s in keeping with the season’s hues. Think deep purples, burgundy, dark green and navy—all tones that have a richness and depth to them.

As for the types of prints that will be huge this season, you can’t go wrong with a classic polka dot. Whether it’s a delicate spot or oversized spotted pattern, you can’t go wrong. You can incorporate it within your outfit, or with your accessories. For autumn carnival in particular, it makes for an adorable print to incorporate within a headpiece.

Along with getting a little spotty, have fun with a great animal print. Whether it’s leopard, cheetah, or giraffe, there are plenty of playful animal prints that make for the ideal statement piece to add to any look.

This season definitely embrace a print or two. It’s one way to elevate a look and give it healthy injection of personality.

What I Wore: Dot to Dot

29th November, 2019

I always go through phases with my wardrobe but at the moment I’m gravitating towards bold prints as I find they’re such a great statement piece and will always lift any outfit. This top and shirt by Kate Sylvester is such a fun look— the playful print and bright hue is great for the wearing during the day for a polished casual vibe but it can easily be dressed up for the evening with the right shoes and accessories. Additionally as they’re separates I can easily work them with other pieces in my wardrobe giving them a different spin.

While it’s easy to dress this co-ord set up or down, I opted for a smart off duty look that could easily transition to lunch out or a meeting depending on where my day is taking me. I bought these white Gucci sandals last summer and have found them to be such a worthy investment. They go with virtually everything in my closet and are also really comfortable so are ideal for when I’m on the go. This Prada bag ticks the boxes in my book as it can be worn in different ways, either using the top handle or utilising the strap to go hands free. It’s also a great size for housing all my essentials around but not so big that it’s cumbersome to carry around. I can see myself coming back to this look time and time again and if there’s one thing that can never go astray it’s a failsafe outfit that’s guaranteed to always work.

Have fun with punchy prints

31st August, 2018

Classics have a definite place in any wardrobe but I think there’s always room to have a little fun. Enter vibrant prints. Usually incorporating loads of colour and punchy patterns that are guaranteed to lift any outfit consider these your go-to when you want to bring a little sunshine into your look.

You can approach this trend in two ways: choose one statement piece and team it with pared back pieces or go for a clashing effect and team a few different colours and prints. If you’re opting for the latter you’ll need to choose an element to tie everything together whether it be the same colour or similar prints. Often accessories are a helpful way to bring cohesion to your look and give it a more finished effect.

There’s only one way to carry this look and it’s to wholeheartedly embrace it because if you’re going to wear something that’s eye-catching, you need to own it. So whether you go for a beautiful printed dress or a statement coat, a pair of showstoppper shoes or a striking bag it’s important to not shy away.
