What I Wore: Melbourne Cup 2023

7th November, 2023

It’s hard to believe it’s time for another Melbourne Cup day. It’s always one of my favourite race days as the dress code gives you the freedom to push the boundaries a little and take your look in another direction. This year, I turned to Aussie designer Mariam Seddiq who designed this pastel mini dress. I always gravitate towards colour at Melbourne Cup and with pastels trending for race attire, I thought this ever so delicate yellow hue would be perfect. What I love most about this design are the combination of curves in the scalloped edges worked back with the sharper lines on the neckline and sleeves. It’s a great balance and I thought the contrasting effect was quite striking. The finishing touches such as the split sleeve detail and the oversized buttons and plunging neckline with high collar also add an element of interest and boldness to the dress. It definitely fit the Cup attire brief.

I wanted to wear a brimmed hat for this occasion and the white hat by Somewhere Here worked back nicely with the rest of my ensemble. To further carry the white theme, I opted for a white Bulgari chain bag which made created a nice thread of consistency into my accessories. With a sprinkling of gorgeous jewellery by Jan Logan and yellow knotted heels by new shoe brand Edie Collective, I was ready for a little Walking on Sunshine moment with this yellow themed ensemble.

What I Wore: The Everest 2023

17th October, 2023

As the richest race on turf, The Everest is always one of the biggest events in the racing calendar. I was there on hosting duties with 7 Racing over the weekend and it’s the kind of event that requires something big and bold. Enter this colour blocked dress by Rebecca Vallance. Pastel blue and green is always such an impactful colour combination and in this instance its vibrancy was perfect for a gorgeous spring day in Sydney. It’s also a design that embraces one of spring racing’s biggest trends. Hot tip: bows are going to be having a major fashion moment over the coming months.

I wanted to provide some contrast with my accessories and pastel pink was the ideal complementary colour. It adds a feminine touch and lifts the pastel tones in the dress. Continuing the bow theme I opted to wear this headpiece by Somewhere Here, the oversized bow paired with the pink veil added a classic touch to such a playful look. Weaving some more pink into this outfit (if Barbie taught us anything there’s no such thing as too much pink), I opted for a Rabanne bag. With its intricate disk design, it added some texture to my look while tying into the pink hue of my headwear. Spring racing is definitely licence to have a little fun with your outfit, and this look at Everest certainly set the right tone for the coming weeks!
