One of my favourite things to shop for when it comes to my summer wardrobe are beach cover ups. Once I’ve found the right swimsuit, I often look for just the right thing to pop on over the top that will take me straight from the sand to drinks without having to change. This is especially important when I’m on holiday as I don’t want to waste time doing multiple outfit changes when there’s fun to be had. Am I right?
The great thing about cover ups now is that they can range from ultra casual to super glam and everything in between, meaning there’s one to suit every style or occasion, and even swimsuit. From dresses, to kaftans, jumpsuits and sarongs, the options are virtually endless. And to help get you started, I’ve rounded up a few stylish options to help you leave your mark at the beach this summer.
I pretty. much live in slides throughout summer as I find them to be really versatile and such a wearable option for any occasion. I tend to go for slides that have a more polished vibe making them easier to wear with multiple looks, dressed up or down. I usually invest in a new pair each season, and this summer, I went for the above white Bottega Veneta slides. White is so easy to pair with pretty much everything in my closet making it my number one pick.
“Dad” sandals
These sandals can be quite divisive—you either love ’em or you hate ’em. I fall into the former category. I’ve found them to be so comfortable so I’ve found myself wearing them most days of the week and they’ve been really easy to pair with everything from dresses to jeans. If you don’t like this particular silhouette, definitely find yourself a comfy shoe this summer, whether it’s a Teva backpacker-style sandal or good ol’ fashion Birkenstocks. Take advantage of the fact comfort is most definitely in!
White pumps
Dark pumps can feel quite heavy at this time of year but you may still want a pair of shoes that you can wear for dressy occasions. Enter a great white heel. Anything in a crisp white is perfect for summer wear and this style is still formal enough to wear as occasion wear, or when you just feel like dressing up a casual look.
Statement shoe
I’m of the frame of mind that a statement shoe is a necessity all year round. Often a simple look can be elevated by the right kind of shoe. These Bottega Veneta mesh pumps are my go-to statement heel right now, as the colour is easily worked back with myriad looks while the style quirky enough to add an element of interest to an outfit. Also mesh is all kinds of perfect for summer weather—great ventilation!
Welcoming a new season, particularly summer is always a lot of fun because it means a fresh opportunity to dabble in a few of the latest trends. Dressing for the warmer weather has always been a favourite of mine because it involves lots of beautiful lightweight textures such as linen and cotton, fun silhouettes, all while incorporating bold accessories including super on trend footwear and jewellery. If you’re looking to update your current wardrobe, consider investing in the following pieces.
Puff sleeved dress
Puffed sleeves are a little whimsical and oh-so pretty which makes them ideal for this relaxed time of year. Whether featured on a dress or on a top, they instantly add a feminine vibe to any look.
Floaty linen
Breathable linen is made for summer. And you won’t be hard pressed to find it everywhere. Use it as a go-to for scorching hot days or when you’re headed to the beach and want something that will transition easily to sundowners.
Square toe sandals
Bottega Veneta made them a thing so don’t be surprised if you see square toe sandals everywhere. They’re so of the moment that you’ll instantly transform any outfit with the addition of a pair of these.
Straw bag
If you’re going to wear a straw bag, summer is the time to do it. It’s the kind of relaxed accessory that will finish any outfit.
Animal print
Animal print never really goes away so definitely rock it this summer and beyond. Think a skirt or dress or if you want to wear it a little more subtly, opt for accessories such as a hair scarf or shoes.
Bucket hat
This 90s fave is back! The great thing about the bucket hat is that it’s often super easy to fold up and pop in your bag which means you’ll never be caught out without sun protection this summer. There are all different kinds of iterations from designer to chain store, so go ahead and take your pick.
Clashing print
There’s a huge trend for clashing prints, and it’s being heavily featured on summer dresses. There’s something quite fresh about big bold prints on a maxi dress which is just made for easy breezy dressing.
Bermuda shorts
These long length shorts are popping up on Insta feeds everywhere and are a nice alternative to cut offs. They look polished and elegant when worn with a cami or tee and elevated slides.
Anklet
You may remember anklets from your teen years and they’re making a comeback this season. The ideal way to wear it? A fine chain worn with your fave sandals and a perfect pedi.
Teva style sandals
These sandals were once synonymous with utilitarian travel footwear but lo and behold they’ve had a bit of a stylish makeover, with Chanel even doing a version that’s no doubt on wish lists everywhere.
I’m making the most of the last month of summer with most of my shopping list this month focused on easy breezy accessories and staples with a sophisticated touch. However I’ve also been embracing a few trendy buys including a fun fluoro bag, a shell headband that’s perfect for this time of year and beige tones which are set to be huge in the coming months. So if you’re in the mood to spoil yourself with a new buy, here are a few things that may inspire you…
I love sunnies that are a little bit quirky and different and the octagon shape of this Chloe pair give them a point of difference to others in my collection.
If you’ve yet to embrace beige tones prepare yourself because you’ll be seeing the colour everywhere. I love the playful meets classic vibe of this skirt.
I’ve mentioned how much I rate this brand previously so you won’t be surprised that I immediately knew I had to have this particular one piece. It’s the kind of style that I know I’ll have for plenty of summers to come.
If you’ve yet to embrace the humble hair bow then you’d better jump on board cause they’re going to be huge. This particular style would work with so many different outfits.
