What I Wore: Top Coat

24th March, 2020

While we may all be spending a lot more time at home these days, I’m still trying to inject a little fun into my wardrobe everyday in whatever way I can. Fashion’s always been such a huge part of my life and wearing a beautiful piece (even if I’m just going to staying inside) is one thing that helps me maintain a little normality in my routine.

I had this coat bookmarked for many an outing throughout autumn/winter, from meetings to events to the races and while those events may be put on hold right now, I’m still trying to work it into my wardrobe as best as I can. This checked coat by Viktoria and Woods is such a great statement piece to pop on top of a casual look to add a dressy element. The pattern, the cut and the contrasting details give it an elevated feel.

My collection of jeans has definitely been getting much more of a workout than usual. It has been interesting trying to find pieces in my closet that are comfortable enough for a day spent at home but also maintains a polished feel. This is where a crisp white shirt is ideal. It strikes just the right vibe but isn’t overly fussy.

The combination of a crisp white shirt and jeans is a blank canvas for so many different types of accessories. White slingback heels and a classic black bag make this look appropriate for myriad occasions. It’s definitely one outfit I’m bookmarking for future use.

What I Wore: In Bloom

14th January, 2020

A silhouette I’m really loving this summer is a classic wrap dress with blouson sleeves. I’ve always found wrap dresses to be really flattering as they help accentuate the waist and and the v-neck is a neckline that works for virtually everyone. It’s a feminine style, that depending on the print and colour can be casual, dressy or somewhere in between. I particularly love the voluminous sleeves on this dress. Playful and fun, they help soften the overall feel of the dress.

This Kate Spade dress is a great go-to option this season as the colour palette is just made for long days spent enjoying the sunshine. Orange and pink is an unlikely colour combination that just works—the bright shades play nicely against each other while still holding their own.

I was going for a more polished vibe on this day so it was all about sleek accessories that helped elevate the dress. I opted for an orange structured bag as it worked with the similar tones in the dress and provided a strong contrast to the softer elements of the frock. A white heel is such a great shoe option to have in your closet because it’s so easy to work back with virtually everything. Case in point: the Tony Bianco shoes I’m wearing here which I’ve worn several times since I got them. Paired with cat eye frames, this is the ideal look for the a dressy lunch or an upcoming event.

What I Wore: Casual Luxe

30th July, 2019

I’m all for a high-low mix when it comes to how I dress and often work elegant accessories with more casual pieces. This ensures comfort without compromising on style. And what’s more comfortable or stylish than a classic white tee and jeans? I often wear this combination and always add interesting outerwear along with fun accoutrements to help give it a point of difference. For this particular look I decided to add the ultimate in luxury pieces—a fur coat (faux all the way, of course). I wore this coat to Fashion Week with a dress but it goes to show that it can also be dressed down without compromising its wow factor. I’ve found that throwing on knockout outerwear always elevates a less dressy look.

As always accessories are crucial for finishing off an ensemble and in this instance it was all about a striking bag and shoes. The classic Louis Vuitton Speedy bag looks fresh and modern due to the oversized monogram, and I love that I can use it as both a crossbody and top handle bag. My ankle boots are also by Louis Vuitton, but with a smaller, subtle LV pattern. And as a final finishing touch, delicate cat eye sunglasses by Vogue Eyewear and earrings by The Slow Mode.
