What I Wore: Practically Perfect

15th January, 2019

Like most people I grew up with the film Mary Poppins so I was beyond excited to hear that there was a sequel in the works starring Emily Blunt. And whilst the film is incredible, what I’m really excited about is the fashion in it. Mary’s got some serious style! In her immortal words it’s “practically perfect in every way”.

I’ve been channelling a little Mary Poppins in my own wardrobe after seeing the movie and this gorgeous shoot in US Vogue. The uber nanny’s style is all about luxe textures such as velvet and lace interspersed with lots of fun, feminine prints like polka dots and florals. And it’s all anchored by beautifully tailored pieces such as button down shirts and fitted skirts and jackets. Her accessories game is also on point with bows and boaters dotting her looks to give them a sweet touch.

The great thing about a little Poppins style is that whilst it’s polished and elevated, it’s wearable too. I’ve adopted elements of Emily Blunt’s movie style such as the below dress with ruffled bib feature and flared cuffs. I’ve also added a touch of velvet with these Macgraw shoes with bow detail and a simple and classic accessories such as the top handle bucket bag and boater. Working with ladylike prints and fine finishing touches, along with English rose inspired silhouettes I’ve managed to turn reel style into real style with minimal fuss.
