The one thing about trends is that all of a sudden you may discover something you never knew was missing from your wardrobe. In this instance, many of us over summer are going to discover we’ve all had a Bermuda shorts-sized hole in our life and now is the time to fill it. After so many years of short-ish to super short shorts dominating the scene, it’s now about embracing a slightly longer silhouette. The Bermuda shorts trend is gaining some serous traction, so firstly, what are they? Bermuda shorts will generally hover somewhere at the knee or just above and they’ve got a sense of polish that shorter shorts may not always have. There’s a slight nod to traditional suiting about them (albeit just with less fabric) so they’re a sleeker way to do shorts this season.
So, what are you supposed to do with all that extra length? Well, embrace it! Don’t be daunted by the shift in silhouette. You can still totally mix and match Bermuda shorts with what you’d usually wear regular shorts with. They look great with a vest, a button down shirt, a t-shirt, a tank… the list goes on. When it comes to shoes, they work well with a slingback block heel a la the Chanel style two-tone shoes, slides, or a great sandal. It’s just about experimenting and learning to get used to the new length, as at first, it’s going to look a little weird because you may be used to seeing shorts looking a certain way. Don’t give up though. They’re a fun, on trend way to do shorts this summer and can really help to refresh your warm weather staples and give them a new look and feel.
