International Women’s Day

8th March, 2018

It’s International Women’s Day today and as the mother of two beautiful little girls it has me thinking of the future that lies ahead for them. One of my main goals is to raise them to be strong, kind, ambitious and confident. I want them to know their worth and that they can be anything they want to be. That they can make their mark in the world and to appreciate the achievements and struggles of women that have helped pave the path before them. And I hope that throughout their life that they see they are surrounded by smart, successful women and this gives them the courage to go after their dreams without hesitation.

My own mum is one of the most inspiring women I know. She’s worked extremely hard for everything she’s achieved and has always been a great role model for me. Just watching her has taught me that anything in possible. When I was growing up, she always put in the hours for her career but always ensured that she was there for her family, and this remains true today. I’ve always looked up to her and maybe even more so now that I’m a mum.

And on this special day I’m even more thankful to be surrounded by so many great women in my life — to call them my friends and to have the privilege to work with them. Fashion is one industry where you’re guaranteed to meet so many amazing women who are kicking major career goals. For me it’s so uplifting to see the support that’s there. Whether it’s a new project or a new collection, I think it’s beautiful to see women getting behind other women. And if we continue to do this, no doubt, the best is still yet to come.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Tell me—who is a woman who inspires you in your life?

As an educator I will try to ensure that female students get the opportunity to make contributions in proportion to their numbers in class discussions rather than, as can still sometimes happen, be silent while make voices predominate.
As an aside I read the link to the article where famous women talk about women’s issues. Rebecca Walker’s answer to the question about the biggest issues facing women is imho an absolute belter. I’ll try to look out…
