What I Wore: Top Coat

24th March, 2020

While we may all be spending a lot more time at home these days, I’m still trying to inject a little fun into my wardrobe everyday in whatever way I can. Fashion’s always been such a huge part of my life and wearing a beautiful piece (even if I’m just going to staying inside) is one thing that helps me maintain a little normality in my routine.

I had this coat bookmarked for many an outing throughout autumn/winter, from meetings to events to the races and while those events may be put on hold right now, I’m still trying to work it into my wardrobe as best as I can. This checked coat by Viktoria and Woods is such a great statement piece to pop on top of a casual look to add a dressy element. The pattern, the cut and the contrasting details give it an elevated feel.

My collection of jeans has definitely been getting much more of a workout than usual. It has been interesting trying to find pieces in my closet that are comfortable enough for a day spent at home but also maintains a polished feel. This is where a crisp white shirt is ideal. It strikes just the right vibe but isn’t overly fussy.

The combination of a crisp white shirt and jeans is a blank canvas for so many different types of accessories. White slingback heels and a classic black bag make this look appropriate for myriad occasions. It’s definitely one outfit I’m bookmarking for future use.

What I Wore: A True Classic

21st August, 2018

I’m a fan of trying new labels but I’m also loyal to enduring brands that produce classic pieces time and time again. A black suit has always been in style but the gorgeous tailoring of this jacket and pants by Brooks Brothers makes it a cut above. The tuxedo jacket is ideal for dressy events with the slim cut giving it a sophisticated and sexy feel whilst the pants are flattering and the ideal streamlined silhouette.

There are some styles that are the signature pieces of a brand and in Brooks Brothers case its their madras tie, non-iron shirt, navy blazer and the Oxford shirt I’m wearing below. In true testament to the longevity of a classic white shirt, the style was actually first released in 1900 and is still going strong today. Considering Brooks Brothers celebrated their 200th anniversary earlier this year it goes to show that when you get the design right, it can really last the test of time.

As the look was already so traditional I wanted to add a few modern touches punctuating the look. Small frame sunglasses add just the right amount of attitude whilst a bright pop of colour in the form of my Espie Roche bag added a little sunshine to my monochrome ensemble.

What I Wore: Weekend Dressing

14th July, 2018

I savour weekends and love being able to stop and recharge my batteries. If I’m in off duty mode comfort is everything. On Saturday and Sunday my uniform usually comprises of jeans and sneakers however sometimes I just want to dial it up a notch and that’s when a beautiful dress is a great option. This shirt dress is one such example of an easy outfit that requires minimal styling. I don’t have to think about matching tops to bottoms and I can just focus on my accessories. The punchy print also makes it a fun option for a day of chilling out and spending time out in the sun.

When working with a statement print it’s always important for me to be able to strike the right balance. I want to incorporate strong accoutrements into my look without it being too overwhelming. In this instance my round frame sunglasses added a playful touch. I wanted something quite soft and textural to add to my ensemble and a round wicker bag with leather straps adds just the right on trend finishing touch.
