Chanel two-tone slingbacks: Are they worth it?

25th September, 2023

As far as investment pieces go I don’t think you can ever really go wrong with Chanel. Whether it’s shoes or bags, clothes or accessories, those interlocking Cs always guarantee a classic piece with polish. My two favourite things! Over the years, I’ve invested in a few different things from Chanel and they’ve stood the test of time. Also, I’m still happy about my purchases, which I think is always a sign of a worthwhile investment piece.

One of the things I’ve invested in are the classic Chanel slingbacks, both the heel and flat version. I’ve got them in the iconic beige/nude with black cap toe style as not only are they a versatile combination, but I like that they’re a signature colour combination for the brand. I’ve had both for a few years now and they’re still going strong. I’ve worn them to so many occasions and they’re always a shoe I pack on trips because they’re ultra wearable, comfortable and able to be dressed up or down.

If you’re looking to invest in a pair, here are my honest thoughts on them, and if they’re ultimately worth the price tag.

Do they run true to size?

I get my usual size, so yes they run true to size.

How versatile is it?

So versatile. I have them in flats and in a low heel. They can really dress up an outfit.

Which colour is the most versatile?

I have the nude and black and have found them to be really versatile. I can wear them with pretty much everything in my closet. However I wish I had them in more colours.

Are they comfortable?

Yes, I can definitely wear them all day on my feet. (This is so important for me as far as shoes go).

What is the wear and tear like?

I wear mine a lot and I feel like the nude can get damaged quite easily with water stains etc so I wish they were a bit more durable. The darker colours might be better for wear and tear.

Would you buy them again?

Yes! I want them in more colours – it’s just hard deciding which colour combination to get as there are so many.

Bottega Veneta Stretch sandal: Are they worth it?

20th March, 2023

Bottega Veneta has become the brand to watch, and has definitely had a resurgence since former creative director Daniel Lee gave the Italian brand a modern spin. And if there’s a designer shoe that’s become uber popular over the last few years, it’s the Bottega Veneta Stretch sandal. The silhouette’s become a signature for Bottega Veneta, with the square toe and the crossover and dual straps, and was quickly adopted by the fashion set with its twist on the traditional heel shape and style. Currently they retail for $1460, so they’re a definite splurge purchase.

So, given the price tag and also how popular they are, are these shoes really worth it? I purchased them around two years ago as I loved the silhouette and they’ve had plenty of outings since then (it’s not uncommon for me to wear them multiple times a month). I also am often on my feet a lot while wearing them as I usually wear them to events so comfort was definitely a consideration.

I consider my shoe purchases carefully, particularly when they’re on the expensive side of the shopping scale, so here’s my take on this particular style. Read on if they’re on your wish list…

Do they run true to size?

Yes, I wear my regular size.

How versatile is it?

Really versatile. I’ve worn these heels to multiple occasions, from the races to work events, to meetings and social occasions.

Which colour is the most versatile?

I have the black pair and I’m so glad I got this colour as it’s easy to work it back with multiple looks. This style comes in other colours like nude, white, gold, silver, pink, blue so there are definitely loads of options but black has lots of versatility.

Are they comfortable?

Yes, they’re definitely one of my more comfortable high heels.

What is the wear and tear like?

I wear them all the time and they have lasted really well.

Would you buy them again?

I’ve had them a long time so I feel if I was to lose them or something, I would probably mix it up and try something new. However, I’ve found them to be worth the splurge as I wear them all the time.

Chanel wallet on chain: Is it worth it?

20th February, 2023

Chanel is always one of those brands where you can’t really go wrong. In fact, the price of the average Chanel bag on the resale market has actually dramatically increased, so it’s a worthwhile investment as far as making a big, splurge purchase goes. There’s also something eternally classic about a simple Chanel bag that means you’ll have it for years and years to come.

One of my very first Chanel purchases was the wallet on chain (WOC). As far as leather accessories go, it’s a great entry level purchase to make when it comes to Chanel, but bear in mind that it’s still quite pricey! Prices currently start from $4020 (denim fabrication) in Australia, and that’s for a simple design, if you want one of the more trendy seasonal styles or leather you can expect to pay around the $5000 – $6000 mark. There’s a great resale market for the Chanel WOC however, so definitely consider second hand as you may get it at a cheaper price.

This diminutive Chanel style is something that will have longevity and is quite versatile, but there are a few things to keep in mind before decided whether to buy one or not. Here’s my honest take on it…

What can I fit in it?

A warning: this bag is tiny. I can fit a small wallet, key, small lip gloss. Unfortunately my current phone is too big for it!

What is the wear and tear like?

It has lasted many years so the wear and tear is good. A definite investment piece.

How versatile is it?

Really versatile – I can wear it with most things and I can wear it casually as a crossbody or put the chain inside and wear it as a clutch.

Is black a good colour to get?

I wear a lot of black so it is a great colour for me. I feel like you can go wrong with neutral tones for everyday things. That said, there are some great colours/patterns available now which might work if you’re after more of a statement piece. However bear in mind that the more seasonal trend styles will date as they don’t tend to reissue them, so a bag from a 2023 collection will easily be indentifiable as being from that season.

What are its best features and worst features?

The best feature is that having the black WOC means it is very versatile and doesn’t date. The worst feature on my particular bag design is that it only clips up with a little clip on the CC’s so its not secure for small things like coins.

Would I buy it again?

Yes, it’s stood the test of time.

I love the classic simplcity

The Chanel WOC comes in so many great colours nowadays, you can definitely find one to work back with anything in your wardrobe.
