What I Wore: The Winter Slip

Slip dresses are so versatile in summer that I wanted to extend their wear into winter. But how to deal with the temperature factor? It’s easy to slip on a jacket over the top but that can admittedly be a little chilly on cooler winter days. So to up the warmth factor I decided to layer dresses! I took this Pereira Fitzgerald dress and popped it on over a red Bec & Bridge ribbed mini dress. The long sleeves and turtleneck of the mini dress helped keep me warm and as it’s longer than a top it provided little extra coverage. Win-win!

Being able to utilise dresses in winter is a great way to extend the wear of my wardrobe and allow pieces I’d usually wear in spring/summer to stay in rotation. I’m all about versatility when it comes to what’s in my closet so I’m always happy when I can wear something all year round.

I also love the contrasting colour scheme of red and black. It has a bold feel and looks really strong and modern so I wanted to maintain the same colour palette throughout. I decided to pair my outfit with studded Alaïa heels to give it a dressy feel and maintain a polished look. With heels, I could easily wear this outfit to a function or a work event but with flats, it can transition to a weekend appropriate ensemble. As a finishing touch I decided to throw on a pair of cat eye sunglasses for a classic feel.

What I Wore: Prepped and Ready

As most of you know I’m a huge fan of stocking my wardrobe with key style staples. They just make getting dressed a whole lot easier. The classic white shirt is high on my list of things every woman should have in her closet. So when I find a shirt that’s actually called The Perfect Silk Shirt it immediately has me excited. And indeed this Banded Together shirt does tick all the boxes. The cut is great, the split cuffs give it an interesting finishing touch and the necktie (which can be worn tied or loose) adds an element of versatility. What’s not to love?

A white shirt will go with pretty much anything which is why it’s universally praised as a fashion must-have. Whilst my pairing options were plenty, in this instance I went for a slight 60s vibe with a tweed mini in a subtle herringbone pattern. I liked that the skirt’s texture provided a great contrast to the smooth silk finish of my blouse.

The addition of my Gucci pearl belt instantly gave my outfit an on trend element which really lifted it from being too conservative. I wanted to keep the rest of my accessories quite simple so I opted for a mini quilted Dior chain strap bag and classic cat eye sunglasses, both have a classic feel but maintain a modern sensibility.

What I Wore: Between the lines

During a recent trip to Melbourne I was in the mood to wear something quite feminine and bold so I ended up taking this Rebecca Vallance top and skirt combination with me. I love the nautical striped pattern on both, which gives a relaxed, resort wear vibe. The ruffled neckline and sleeve on the top give it a dramatic flair and gives the outfit a point of interest as the rest of the look is quite streamlined and simple. These were also the ideal pieces to take on a trip, as they’re able to be styled into two separate looks, giving me more options to choose from.

I wanted to dress this ensemble up a bit so I opted for my studded Alaïa heels, however I’ve found that it could work easily with a pair of sandals to give a slightly more casual feel.

My ever reliable Chanel bag always comes with me when I travel as it can go from a crossbody bag to a clutch quite easily, and in this instance it was the ideal bag to take to dinner. It’s small enough to carry my bits and pieces but not so big as to look cumbersome.

I never head out with a pair of sunglasses and for this outing, I wanted to stick to a classic black pair. However the charms on the sunglasses’ arms help give it a glam touch and is often a talking point as it’s such an unexpected detail.
