Style update: 10 things to add to your summer wardrobe

2nd December, 2020
A crisp white dress is a must this summer

Summer is officially here! The onset of warmer days means it’s time to embrace all the things I love about dressing for summer: linen, floaty dresses, comfy sandals and simple accessories. I always end up collecting bits and pieces for my summer wardrobe throughout the year, but I do always have a hit list in mind of key things I’ll need to update existing looks. Here’s what I think should be on most women’s shopping lists this season.

Statement linen

Gone are the days of linen being quite plain and simple. There are some really gorgeous statement pieces around from the likes of Aje, Joslin Studio and Posse with elevated detailing and intricate styles. I’m a fan of floaty linen dress with a feature element or details such as shirring. Plus, it’s ultra breathable meaning it’s perfect for warm summer days.

Crisp white dress

If you’re going to invest in one thing to take you through everything from a summer BBQ to a long lunch with the girls then definitely make it a white dress. A crisp white dress is easily dressed up or down and can be paired with virtually any kind of shoe or accessory, so it’s ultra versatile.

The denim skirt that’s destined for many an outfit this summer

Denim skirt

If you want something that’s on-trend, comfy and wearable then it has to be a great denim skirt. This simple A-line style is taken up a notch with the statement buttons. I’ve worn this skirt with a button-down shirt to a singlet and plain white tee, so I can assure you you’ll get plenty of mileage out of one.

Ribbed/knit tanks

Invest in a few different colours as a ribbed tank is the polished staple that will dress up your favourite skirt or pair of shorts. There’s plenty of affordable options around now so you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Voluminous neutral maxi

Plenty of Aussie brands are doing their own version of a flowy maxi, with Matteau being at the top of the list. Choose a plain, neutral hue and you will be able to roll it out for so many occasions the cost per wear will be virtually zero.

Minimalist sandals

I love the look of barely there sandals with the most delicate of straps. Whether you go for the heels or flats iteration, there’s no doubt that it adds a touch of elegance to any outfit.

Comfy shoes? Absolutely!

Comfy sandals

The great thing about footwear trends this summer is that comfy is in. From the two-strap sandals that Chanel made famous, to Teva-esque hiking sandals, this season there’s nothing fussy or complicated when it comes to shoes. It’s all about being comfortable.

A great one-piece

A black one-piece is a standard in my wardrobe because I can wear it to the beach and straight to lunch afterwards simply by throwing on a pair of linen pants or a great skirt. Choose a simple, plain silhouette if you want to ensure versatility, but if you’re less concerned about function and just want to make a splash, there are loads of statement one-pieces around right now.

Simple, sleep sunnies are my go-to right now

Sleek sunglasses

I always have a pair of sunnies on hand wherever I go, and this summer, I am loving the simplicity of a pair of RayBans. This style goes with everything and it’s a fresh take on the chunkier acetate styles we’re so used to seeing.

Woven bag

Basket bags are still very much a thing this summer. Whether you opt for something small and delicate, or roomy enough to carry all your beach essentials, there’s definitely something to be said about embracing a natural approach to accessories during the warmer months.

Why it’s time to add a printed skirt to your shopping list

4th February, 2018

I often turn to a great skirt when I’m in the mood to get a little more dressed up and have found that opting for one in a fun, vibrant print can often be just the statement piece an outfit needs. They’re also super easy to pair up with multitude of different style tops, from a button down, to a lightweight sweater, a t-shirt and cami, the possible combinations are virtually limitless, leaving you with many an outfit option. Whether you opt for something like a standout stripe, cute polka dots or classic gingham (all are currently sitting in my closet and I can vouch for how wearable they are) there’s something that’s quite effortless about the whole look, that requires minimal styling but has maximum impact.
