What I Wore: Check Mate

23rd January, 2020

You’re all aware of my ongoing love affair with suiting which I’m happy to report is still going strong. I often find myself gravitating towards great suits simply because they’re such an easy outfit choice for so many different occasions. I wore the below Camilla and Marc suit during a photo shoot for Elle magazine last year, but have also worn the jacket separately to other events. And that’s the beauty of a suit—they’re quite the style chameleon and I’ve found them so easy to pair with other pieces in my wardrobe as separates.

The strong print of the jacket and pants I’m wearing below is great for making a statement but the navy shade in turn makes it quite versatile. And that’s something to look out for if you want to ensure a suit also has longevity: the right colour will mean that you’re able to easily work it back with existing pieces. I’ve found it quite easy to slip the blazer on over leather leggings or jeans and the double breasted cut is flattering and modern.

For such a strong look I wanted to go with accessories that weren’t too fussy or busy. Sleek and simple is always a winning combination. So I went for classic black pumps (note: always ensure that the length of your pants sits perfectly with whatever shoes you wear or you risk looking a little unpolished) for a fail-safe shoe choice. I kept my jewellery to a few of my faves—my go-to watch and bangle and stacked gold necklaces. Easy, effortless and elegant.
