Autumn is still in that tricky territory of having some hot days interspersed with cooling temperatures so it’s about having a balance of pieces that can easily work for varying temperatures. One of the great things about navigating trans-seasonal weather is that you can easily get around it by working with layers. I’ve been working on building up my own wardrobe for this season and these are some of the things I think every closet needs.
A lightweight knit
You don’t need to go into full blown heavy jumper territory just yet so a nice lightweight jumper in neutral tones will see you through the next few weeks with ease.
A roomy tote
After having such a deep love affair with smaller daintier bags it seems the tote is making a comeback. Think nice and roomy enough to fit all your essentials but understated and chic in design.
A good pair of jeans
Invest in a good pair of jeans now that will take you through to winter. I am loving the slightly straight leg silhouette with a more stiffer denim as a change of pace from my old favourites, the skinny leg.
You always need a great pair of ankle boots to survive autumn/winter. Find a pair in black and you can wear them with everything from jeans to pants and dresses.
A trench coat is a forever classic but this season in particular it’s going to be huge. You can easily pair it with most things in your wardrobe and it provides just the right amount of coverage and protection if you’re out and about and the weather cools down.
Anything in animal print
Animal print is another big trend to look out for. I’m a big fan of anything leopard so I will definitely be incorporating a few pieces featuring that print in my wardrobe.
A printed long sleeved maxi
The great thing about a long sleeved dress is that it always looks polished and is perfect for trans-seasonal weather as it provides ample coverage from the elements. This season dare to go bold and opt for a printed maxi style that’s designed to add a punchy element to any outfit.
If you don’t already have one, a black blazer is a must. Look for a nice fitted silhouette, in a simple design that will be versatile enough to work with myriad looks.
I’m still loving a great suit as a polished option for the office or for an event. You can even look to experiment with colour for a modern take on traditional suiting.
A hair slide
Hair accessories are going to be huge so if you’re not one for bling, this is an easy way to dress up an outfit. A gorgeous hair slide will add a pretty touch to any look and also look majorly on trend.
