12 Insta-outfit ideals to steal

1st May, 2017

If you’re experiencing stylist’s block aka having no idea what to wear then it’s high time for some fashion inspiration. As always the stylish ladies of Instagram are able to offer up more than enough great outfits to help you get dressed for the rest of the month, totally drama-free.

This look demonstrates perfectly how you can mix classic and contemporary and create a look that’s totally on point. Ballet flats and cropped distressed jeans are already a match made in sartorial heaven but when there’s a gorgeous Chanel boucle jacket involved, then you’ve got perfection on your hands.

Now this is how to do lounge wear the chic way. Fashion blogger Julie Sarinana has opted for tapered cropped tracksuit pants (infinitely more flattering then the baggy variety) and paired it with a classic black and white striped long sleeved t-shirt and sneakers for the ultimate in leisure wear.

An oversized cocoon style coat will not only be a great winter warmer it looks polished when thrown on over everything from jeans to leather pants.

A gorgeous trench is a wardrobe staple. I guarantee that not only will you get plenty of wear out of it, it also works well with the current trend of straight leg denim – an effortless look that is of the moment.

Now is the time to start building your knit collection. A neutral knit when paired with a black turtleneck and round frame sunglasses channel a 60s vibe with a modern touch.

Stretchy jeans are making way for more rigid denim styles with the straight leg, high rise being the most popular. When paired with a simple white tee and a cosy cardigan, you’ve got yourself a look that’s perfect for an afternoon spent relaxing.

Whatever Olivia Palermo wears is always fashion gold, especially when it’s monochromatic perfection such as this. A pair of leather pants is the ideal pairing with ankle boots while a long line vest and bell sleeves makes for sophisticated layering.

A moto style leather jacket is a key wardrobe item throughout the year for me as it’s so versatile. Lara Worthington has thrown her jacket on over a plain tee and tweed pants for a look that perfectly straddles the old and the new.

Glossier founder Emily Weiss’ look shows how oh-so right a pairing white and grey make. The cropped flared jeans are one of the key denim styles of the season while the Gucci slides with fur trim are the ideal finishing touch. The coat with waterfall drape is a wardrobe addition that is guaranteed to be on high rotation.

Miranda Kerr is living proof in the style appeal of a pair of bold hued pants. Red is an adventurous colour choice but when paired with a cami and sweet polka dot cardi it looks decidedly more subdued and wearable.

Be adventurous in your fashion pairings a la Miroslava Duma who has teamed sporty separates with a classic long length, double breasted wool coat and black boots for a look that’s comfortable with an added edge.

A sleeveless suit style dress looks polished and sophisticated and can be dressed up or down according to your chosen footwear. Heeled ankle boots would take you to a meeting just fine while a pair of sneakers could take you to lunch with the girls. Also, the backpack has grown up a lot over the years to make it a great alternative to a handbag.

Steal her style: Alicia Vikander

25th November, 2016

Oscar winner Alicia Vikander has been a breath of fresh air on the red carpet. Each look of the former ballerina manages to make a statement whilst still maintaining her elegant, classic style (admittedly it also helps when you’ve got a partnership with Louis Vuitton!). However even when she’s not dressed in a ball gown her style is always polished to perfection with just the right amount of adorments to keep the look interesting. Her style is definitely one to watch.

Cotton poplin shirt

A light blue shirt is a versatile addition to your wardrobe. It will work for a day at the office as much as it will for a lunch with the girls. Roll up the sleeves to give it a more relaxed vibe.

White pants

A crisp white pair of trousers is a fresh look for spring. Keep the fit loose for a ’70s vibe.

Gold bracelet

A slim gilded bracelet will act as a chameleon in your accessories repertoire. It’s a versatile piece that will work dressed up or down.

Gold cuff

Make like Vikander and double up on your gold jewellery. A beautiful gold cuff when teamed with a simple gold bracelet is the perfect embellishment for such simple, classic look.

Steal her style: Blake Lively

18th November, 2016

A photo posted by Blake Lively (@blakelively) on

Blake Lively has always been one to watch as far as style crushes go. Ever since her role as the fashion-forward Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl, she has made her mark on the red carpet and beyond with her penchant for feminine silhouettes with just the right injection of sexiness to give the look some edge. Lively has also always earned major sartorial points for her on-trend pregnancy style. Whether she was promoting a movie or making an appearance at an event with husband Ryan Reynolds, her maternity fashion was always the kind that almost defied what a woman dressing with a bump could do. Her other specialty? Her off duty looks. Pretty dresses, relaxed sweaters and denim are all part of the Lively playbook, and whatever the look, each is always worked back with interesting accessories. Time to take note, ladies!

Floral dress

A floral dress is the perfect option for a fresh spring outfit and with a split a la Lively’s it gives a flirty touch to an otherwise demure look.

Converse sneakers

The classic Converse Chuck Taylor has always been a go-to sneaker and in white it’s the ideal shoe to give bold blooms a sporty touch.

Cream bag

To give this look a polished touch team it with a cream shoulder bag that will perfectly offset the relaxed vibe of the rest of the outfit.

Steal her style: Kate Bosworth

11th November, 2016

A photo posted by Kate Bosworth (@katebosworth) on

Kate Bosworth has always been one of Hollywood’s most on trend, fashion-loving stars. Whether she’s dressed in up to the minute designs fresh off the runway on the red carpet or embracing her relaxed, slightly boho off duty style she manages to look incredible every time. Take a leaf out of her book and embrace the fact that sometimes less is definitely more when it comes to an ensemble that will make an impact.

Black slip dress

This is one of those spring/summer staples that I guarantee you will wear to death. A simple black slip dress can easily be elevated to evening wear with the addition of a great jacket and heels or dressed down with sneakers for a stylish take on weekend wear.

Slip-on shoes

A pair of black slip-on sneakers give a feminine dress slightly more of an androgynous feel. The perforated detail on Bosworth’s shoes also give the look a bit of an edge.

Steal her style: Emma Watson

4th November, 2016

A photo posted by Emma Watson (@emmawatson) on

She came to prominence playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series but now Emma Watson has well and truly shed her cape and wand and is set to star in the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast and is also busy with her work as a UN Women Goodwill ambassador. Having grown up in the spotlight Watson’s style has undergone an evolution right in front of our eyes from cute tween to slightly awkward teen and now to the understated and sophisticated fashion icon she is today.

I think every woman should own a suit that makes her feel like she can conquer the world. A simple tailored black suit is a worthwhile investment as not only is it office-appropriate, with the right pairing of shoes and accessories it makes a great go-to option for a dressy night out. The key here is ensuring the jacket and pants perfectly fit as an ill-fitting suit takes away from the sleek appearance you’re going for. For a modern look opt for tapered pants cropped at the ankles and a blazer with a nipped in waist. You could also wear the sleeves pushed up to give the look a little bit more of an edge.

A silk cami is a sexy option to wear under a suit jacket however you can also extend its wear to a skirt or shorts during summer. Watson’s opted for a pinstripe however a classic neutral such as cream or white would also work just as well.

A simple necklace a la Watson’s is a classic addition to any accessories wardrobe. However if you want to be able to wear the same necklace with multiple looks opt for one with a smaller pendant to ensure it always complements an outfit and doesn’t overwhelm.

Steal her style: Jennifer Hawkins

21st October, 2016

She’s a Myer ambassador, entrepreneur, a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model and one of the country’s most successful models. It’s no wonder that Jennifer Hawkins’ style is one that incites major wardrobe envy. She moves from sexy and sultry bodycon dresses and sky statements heels one minute to relaxed beachy looks the next, but each is guaranteed to be injected with her quintessential Aussie girl next door vibe. Here’s how to make this summery look all your own…

White shirt

A simple white shirt is a versatile summer staple. Find one in a lightweight fabric such as cotton or linen and you can pop it on over a skirt, shorts or use it as a chic cover up at the beach.

Peach shorts

Pastel pieces are always a pretty option in spring/summer and when teamed with white it really ensures the colour pops. It’s a great feminine look for a balmy evening.

White sneakers

They’re ubiquitous yes, but there’s no denying the appeal of a pair of crisp white sneakers. I own the same Adidas Superstars as Hawkins and can attest to the fact they are ridiculously versatile. Dresses, jeans, skirts, shorts, you name it they can be paired back with it.

Steal her style: Kristin Cavallari

16th October, 2016

Kristin Cavallari first came to prominence on the reality TV shows Laguna Beach and The Hills, however now she’s established a career as a jewellery and shoe designer and author all whilst leading a busy life as a mum of three and wife to NFL player Jay Cutler. Now a resident of Chicago, Cavallari’s look still incorporate touches of being a former California girl with its relaxed approach to styling, however her look has indeed matured with tailored blouses, skirts and dresses featuring quite heavily in her style repertoire.

White fluted blouse

Fluted sleeves have been a trend of late and when featured on a simple white blouse such as Cavallari’s it looks effortless without looking like a slave to fashion. It’s also the kind of style that can easily live on long after it finishes trending.

Black skirt

A simply flippy black skirt is a fun way to look polished but still keep the look quite youthful. Opt for a longer length if you’re after a more conservative look or are not a fan of flashing lots of leg.

Gold statement necklace

A monochrome look is instantly livened up with the addition of gilded jewellery. A statement necklace is one way to add interest to an outfit and give it a point of difference. This particular style is both daytime and nighttime appropriate so will definitely get plenty of use.

Steal her style: Victoria Beckham

30th September, 2016

Victoria Beckham is one woman who always looks impeccable. Known for her penchant for vertiginous heels and figure-hugging dresses, she always looks perfectly turned out – which is why this look at New York Fashion Week was such an unexpected (but pleasant) surprise. The man-style tailoring of her outfit had just the right feminine touches with the tousled hairstyle and dainty jewellery and still maintained her signature polish. Plus she managed to make simple slides look oh-so stylish. The loose fit and natural textures make this an ideal outfit for spring.

Tailored button-down shirt

A relaxed tailored shirt, with its additional volume can actually make a frame appear smaller. Roll up the sleeves to give it a slightly more nonchalant feel.

Wide-leg pants

Wide-leg pants are on-trend and the oatmeal colour of Beckham’s pants ensure that they’re easily workable into a multitude of looks. Team it with a tee or cami depending on whether you’re looking to dress it up or down. Thread a simple black scarf through belt loops (if your pants have any) and you’re set.

Black slides

A simple pair of black slides will definitely get a workout throughout the summer months. As a bonus they’re comfortable too.

Steal her style: Jamie Chung

23rd September, 2016

A photo posted by Jamie Chung (@jamiejchung) on

Actress Jamie Chung has starred in Sucker Punch, The Hangover Part II and III, Gotham and Once Upon a Time but when she’s not in front of the camera she pens a blog called What the Chung. The blog has everything from travel to beauty but her style posts are definitely the most clickworthy. Chung’s style is the perfect mix of California casual meets polished meets edgy and her looks are definitely worth bookmarking. Here she shows that a pop of colour can really take an outfit to the next level…

Saffron top

This shade of yellow is gorgeous and when in the form of a long sleeved lace top it takes it from being conservative to being fun and fashion forward. To mix up your wardrobe veer outside your usual colour palette and take a walk on the colourful side.

Straight leg jeans

Chung’s high waisted Adriano Goldschmied jeans are without a doubt one of the most popular denim looks of the season. Make sure they’re cropped at the ankle and keep everything else in your outfit quite streamlined to avoid looking too bulky.

Green pumps

Sometimes it pays to do multiple block colours for an eye-catching effect. Yellow and green is normally  a tricky colour combination to pull off (unless you’re on the Austalian Olympic team) but in this instance it works. Chung’s pairing of bottle green pumps with her saffron coloured top works as the shades are both quite subdued and complement rather than compete with each other. Maintaining the same tones works in keeping the look sophisticated.

Steal her style: Olivia Palermo

16th September, 2016

Only Olivia Palermo could make dog walking look oh-so chic. The perennial street style fave rocks a perfect outfit for the trans-seasonal weather with a puffy-sleeved off the shoulder top, distressed denim and simple metallic loafers.

Off the shoulder top

The off the shoulder top has seen many incarnations from tie sleeves to bell sleeves but the puffed sleeve is particularly cute. Just remember that with this much volume up top it’s important to keep whatever you’re wearing at the bottom quite streamlined.

Distressed jeans

Miss Palermo demonstrates how you can rock distressed denim and still make it look quite polished. Ensure that you get your jeans cropped to the right length to avoid fabric pooling at your ankles – there’s so much going on with the jeans already you don’t want to overwhelm.

Metallic loafers

Metallic shoes are a bit of a statement making piece but surprisingly versatile too. These add a bit of interest to the outfit without completely detracting from everything else which make them that elusive shoe that can work in myriad ways.
