What I Wore: The Inbetween

13th April, 2023

Currently trying to dress for the in between period of transeasonal weather always brings its own set of challenges. It’s often quite chilly in the morning so I need to keep warm, but then the weather gets warmer later in the day and I don’t want to be left sweltering in my outfit. So, layering lightweight pieces is currently my go-to. Working with layers means I can easily tailor my outfit to the temperature and one of the best pieces I have to do this is a trench. The trench coat is right on trend and is without a doubt one of the best coats to wear throughout the day. It’s lightweight enough that I won’t overheat as the day progresses but looks perfect thrown over a short sleeved top and does the job of keeping me warm when required. The perfect trench this season is a little oversized, mid length (or cropped just above the ankle) and can be worn with the sleeves pushed up. You don’t want anything too tight or short—it’s all about a relaxed, effortless fit. I love this sandy colour as it’s super easy to work back with multiple pieces and has a classic vibe to it.

I wore this look while shopping/shooting content for a collaboration so comfort was key. Opting for a white t-shirt and jeans combination is a tried and tested outfit formula of mine when I want to be comfy yet polished. These Viktoria and Woods jeans are the perfect baggy silhouette that we’ll be seeing everywhere this season (they’re on sale too) and look great when layered with a trench. Plus I find it’s a fresh way to wear jeans this season and reinvigorates my rotation of denim looks.

Accessorising a pared back canvas like this outfit is always fun as I like to throw in a splash of colour or something striking to offset the more understated feel of this outfit. So I opted for a bottle green Dior tote to add an injection of brightness, while a pair of Luv Lou sunnies added a fun touch. To tie everything together, the perfect transeasonal shoe by Camilla and Marc. These slides feature a shearling lining which is so cosy, and have the added bonus of allowing me to extend the wear of open shoes well into autumn!

What I Wore: Feather Fun

6th April, 2023

When it comes to wedding attire I love to embrace playful, fun designs. It’s such a joyous occasion that it’s the perfect opportunity to wholly embrace vibrant hues, embellishments, and dramatic textures. So, when I knew a friend’s wedding was on the horizon I immediately bookmarked this Rachel Gilbert dress for the occasion. This dress features an elegant column design but is taken to the next level with the full length ruching. The texture gives it some depth and the gathered finish makes for a flattering silhouette. Also, sign me up for anything that involves bold finishes—particularly when it comes to feathers. The off the shoulder design is given an element of theatre with the fuchsia feather trim and achieves a beautifully constrasting textured effect against the ruching.

Outfits are all about balance and in this instance the boldness of the dress needed to be offset by simple accessories. Black is a no brainer as far as being a perfect complementary colour to pink, so I went for a black Miu Miu clutch that I’ve had for years. It’s proven itself to be a smart buy, because without fail, it will get an outing to several different occasions each year. I love the classic matelassè pattern on this Miu Miu bag plus it’s the ideal size to carry all my essentials, not to mention it also adds a glam touch with the ring embellishment. These two strap Giuseppe Zanotti heels are also a longtime fave and the streamlined design is the ideal counterpoint to such a statement-making outfit.

What I Wore: 2023 Chandon Ladies’ Day

4th April, 2023

Ladies’ Days at the races usually call for ultra feminine styling. It’s one of my fave race days to dress for because I love that the dress code can be interpreted in different ways. This year, I wanted a look that had some feminine touches but was still quite bold. This dress is a new season piece by one of my go-to Aussie labels, Manning Cartell and I was drawn to the fact it looks like wearable art. The print is striking and the splashes of high octane colour really make a statement. The silhouette is also perfect for autumn racing—I’m a huge fan of long sleeved dresses as they always looks so polished. Plus it’s a perfect option during transeasonal weather when temperatures can swiftly change from hot to cold and back again.

I didn’t really want to do much colour with my accessories as I felt the dress was already quite vibrant so I dialled it down with a few pieces in black. The Jimmy Choo heels are quite pared back, but I love that the crossover design gives it an element of interest. I often incorporate Bulgari bags into any event or race days looks as their designs  are always elegant in an understated way, and this bag with its quilted texture and signature Serpent clasp helped round out my key accessories. Meanwhile, no race day is complete without headwear, and as the dress was already quite busy, I went for an oversized bow by Nerida Winter. This was a nod to the dress code, but also with hair bows trending of late, this also added a contemporary touch to my ensemble.

What I Wore: David Jones at Melbourne Fashion Festival

20th March, 2023

Throwback to this green dream at the David Jones runway show earlier in the month. I always make a point of wearing a designer available at David Jones whenever I attend one of their shows, and this time around it was all about Rachel Gilbert. I’ve worn her designs to several different occasions (a wedding, my mum’s birthday, the races… just to name a few) and love that each gown always has plenty of wow factor. In this instance it was all about this vibrant green hue. How gorgeous is it? Wearing colour is always one of my favourite ways to make a statement with my look. This hue is vivid and punchy, which made for a great option for an after dark event. The elegant long length silhouette is quite understated, but I love how the origami like folds add a touch of drama and also a textural element. Also who else is really loving one shoulder necklines? I’m a huge fan so it was another feature that drew me to this dress. It’s also perfect for summer dressing, particularly when it comes to balmy nights. Additionally I can’t resist a thigh high split for some added oomph!

When it comes to green, I always find either gold or black to be a great match when it comes to shoes and accessories. So in this instance I opted for my black Bottega Veneta heels and a jewelled black Miu Miu clutch to punctuate the look. When it comes to dress like this, I think a less is more approach to accessorising is key.

What I Wore: Penfolds dinner

14th March, 2023

You can’t get more special than attending a private dinner on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I was so exited to attend a dinner hosted by my gorgeous sister-in-law Rey at Penfolds x Luke Mangan’s Table located atop the South-East pylon on the bridge. It was a super intimate venue and to enjoy such a stunning view with friends accompanied by delicious food made for such a memorable evening.

My outfit was of course something I was keen to put together. I ended up wanting to do something comfortable yet dressy and ended up deciding on this Viktoria and Woods ensemble. The navy bustier is right on trend right now and I felt it was elegant yet had a hint of boldness to it. I wore them with a pair of dark navy pants, with the bustier tucked in. I liked the silhouette it achieved, plus the hint of skin with the bustier was perfect for an evening occasion. I decided to keep things really simple with my hair slicked back into a bun, with a pair of gold statement earrings to add a touch of drama. The cap things off, I went with my fave black Bottega Veneta heels which complemented my navy ensemble, but added just a hint of contrast.

What I Wore: A Touch of Romance

7th March, 2023

Party ensembles are always one of the most enjoyable looks to style because I can always take it in so many different directions. I recently attended the launch of Romance was Born’s collaboration artist Paul Yore, and in keeping with the brand’s aesthetic it was all about vibrant colours and bold prints. I’ve always loved the playfulness of Romance was Born’s designs and this dress had the ideal celebratory vibe to it. The A-line slip dress has a very 90s feel to it, giving it a very of the moment feel while the colourful feather trim makes a statement.

A party dress such as this definitely has to take centre stage, so I knew my accessories had to be simple and understated. Simple two-strap Giuseppe Zanotti sandals were the ideal pared back option, however they feature a crystal heel for a touch of boldness. These Isabel Marant crystal encrusted earrings added a touch of glam to this look and worked well as the perfect contrast against the simplicity of the dress.

What I wore this week

2nd March, 2023

It’s officially the first week of autumn but the wear has still been quite warm in Sydney so I’ve been able to have most of my fave summer pieces still in rotation. That said, I’m really cultivating a love affair with tailored pants and will continue to do so seemingly into the coming months as I’m wearing them so often. Also I’ve brought out a few of my fave accessories to help round out my looks this week, including a trusty classic Gucci bag and my fave sunnies. Here’s what I wore this week.

Loving sets for easy, polished options on busy days. This set by Foemina has a relaxed vibe to it with the tunic and slim pants, but can be taken in different directions with a change in footwear. I went for super casual in this instance with the Birkenstocks but I could wear this look with a dressier sandal for something more elevated. Also, anything loose and airy is perfect for combatting the sticky heat we’ve been experiencing in Sydney.

My sartorial commitment to tailored pants continues. Camilla and Marc have been doing some gorgeous suiting inspired pieces, such as these pants. I always feel put together when I wear them, but it’s comfy enough to wear casually. The chunky sandal has become my go-to of late, and these shearling lines ones have been a fun, fashion forward addition to most of my looks.

Told you I loved a matching set! This raspberry coloured top and shorts by Bondi Born is the perfect pairing, and is a great option for doing the school run, while also being appropriate for when I need to look a little more dressed up. Both pieces are also easily worn separately so they’re a great wardrobe addition.

As we head into autumn, and the cooler weather it will bring, I’ve been stocking up on pants to have in rotation and this pair by Viktoria and Woods is definitely in the mix. I’ve had them for awhile and have really given them a workout, as I wear them most weeks, plus I packed them when I went overseas as testament to how wearable they are. I wore another great chunky sandal by Camilla and Marc (they’ve got some great footwear styles right now) to anchor the look and give it a trend element, while a classic Gucci shoulder bag and black sunnies add a touch of polish. Also, shout out to this Uniqlo tee—so comfy, so durable and a great shape.

What I Wore: Crystal Castles

28th February, 2023

The opportunity to embrace a little glam is something I’ll happily do, particularly when party dressing is concerned. I’m always on the hunt for a killer party dress, and while you can take the concept in many different directions, I do have a soft spot for LBDs. The great thing about a little black dress is that it works for myriad occasions, and you generally cannot go wrong with such a design — there’s a reason why it’s a failsafe option. Generally an LBD is flattering, can be styled in different ways and will suit almost any dress code. What I love about this Area mini dress is that it oozes glam, with the simple slip dress silhouette and deep V neckline accentuated by crystals. Embellishments are always one way to take an LBD to another level.

Accessorising this dress was always going to be tricky given there’s already a lot going on with the crystal detail on the dress. So I had to make considered choices that were going to accentuate the dress rather than compete with it. In this instance, I thought it might actually be better to embrace the bling element of the dress and extend it to my choice of earrings. When I saw these drop earrings by Isabel Marant I knew they’d play nicely with the vibe of the dress without being too overwhelming. It extended the silhouette of the dress, rather than breaking it up too abruptly with an earring that was totally different in style. However I knew I had to pare it back with my shoes, as adding an embellished or overly fussy shoe in this instance was going to look too “done”. So I opted for a minimalist approach with these two strap Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Sleek, simple and sexy, they’re the ideal shoe to complement a statement-making dress and accessories and achieves a nice balance.

5 pieces I love from the Scanlan Theodore sale

24th February, 2023

It’s always an exciting day when one of my fave brands goes on sale, and Scanlan Theodore is definitely up there for me as a constant go-to. The brand’s aesthetic is always on point, the tailoring immaculate and the styles are always on trend with a classic twist. I regularly turn to Scanlan Theodore for race day pieces, along with occasion wear and office attire so if there’s an opportunity to stock up, I’m there! Luckily the brand currently has a sale on and you can get a further 20% off sale items, so if your wardrobe needs a restock, then now is the time to check it out.

Sale time is great but it’s also worth being smart about the choices you introduce into your wardrobe—if you end up being unable to wear something in the long run it ends up becoming a very expensive exercise! I’d highly recommend investing in pieces that will have longevity, and Scanlan Theodore always has a great range of tailored pieces that are designed to be mixed and matched. That said, they always do beautiful occasion wear, so definitely keep your eyes peeled for a statement piece if you’ve got a big event on the horizon.

I recently paid a visit to the store and tried on a few different things. Below are some of the outfits that made it onto my wish list.

Tailored Italian Jacket

This suit is all kinds of fun. Neons are trending right now, and this jacket and skirt combination is a great option for an on trend take on suiting. If I was wearing this to an event, I’d wear the jacket buttoned up like I have above for a sexy take on tailoring.

Pleated Rib V Neck Dress

Ribbed knit dresses have become quite a regular feature in my wardrobe because they’re really versatile and easily able to be dressed up or down. I love the flattering V-neck of this particular style, plus the matching tie makes for a great cinched in silhouette. The thing with this fabric is it’s lightweight and drapes beautifully so it’s the perfect go-to during summer (or pop on a blazer when the weather starts to cool down).

Tinsel Mini Dress

See what I mean about event wear? This tinsel dress certainly makes a statement and is perfect for a big occasion. Love the party-ready silver and the embellishment. Also it has a structured finish which achieves a really flattering effect. If you’re looking to splash out on a mini dress that has plenty of sparkle, this should be on your radar.

Double Cotton JacketSpaghetti Strap Sandal

This is a similar cut to the neon green ensemble, but in a more practical neutral. The cut and length of the jacket is great and perfect when worn as part of a set, or separately. I could see myself pairing this with a pair of jeans or tailored pants. The pink strappy shoes are playful and fun and add a on trend vibe to the sleek aesthetic of the suit.

What I wore this week

23rd February, 2023

It’s been busy getting back into the swing of things so it’s been awhile between outfit posts. However I’m back sharing a few of my fave looks of late. I’m still making the most of the warm weather, but we have been met with a chilly day or two in Sydney, so it’s been the perfect opportunity to elevate looks with the addition of a crisp blazer. I’ve also been taking the opportunity to play around with accessories, from sunglasses to statement jewellery and on trend footwear, it has been a fun week wardrobe-wise. Here’s what I wore.

Credits: Swimsuit, Bondi Born; Pants, Tory Burch; Slides, Hermes; Bag, Strathberry

I’ve had these printed Tory Burch pants for a few years and always love pulling them out in spring/summer as the print is so vibrant and fun. I tend to bring them whenever I’m on holiday because they’re a great go-to to brighten up an outfit. I decided to pair them with a black Bondi Born one piece to add a sleek touch, and yellow Hermes slides to add an extra hit of colour.

Credits: Blazer, Henne; T-shirt, Uniqlo; Jeans, Slvrlake; Shoes and bag, Chanel; Sunglasses, Bottega Veneta

There’s nothing like popping a blazer on over an otherwise casual look to add a hint of polish. This neutral blazer is a great one to have on hand as it feels light and airy for summer, but still feels very put together. Jeans and a white tee is always a classic combination and features heavily in my wardrobe rotation, while neutral Chanel Dad sandals add an on trend touch.

Credits: Blazer (similar here), Balmain; Vest and pants, Staud; Thongs, Billini; Bag, Chanel

Who says you can’t wear black during summer? I often wear this set when I want to do loungewear but with an elevated vibe. This look is supremely comfy, but popping a black blazer on over the top makes it ready for a meeting or other work appointment. Black thongs add a summery vibe, but also an on trend touch and a Chanel backpack adds a luxe touch.

Credits: Shirt and pants, Aje; Bag, Strathberry; Sunglasses, Ray Ban

I love embracing colour during summer and this set by Aje is a total winner. The bold sunflower print adds a vivid touch, but also looks playful and is perfect for sunny days. In keeping with the bright pops of colour with this co-ord set, I went with a yellow Strathberry crossbody bag to complement the hues in the print, and also keep the look cohesive by playing in the same colour family. Once again, a matching set is my go-to shortcut for making a look feel effortless yet polished.
