The biggest trends for spring

24th October, 2022

What I love about a new season is all the new trends to try. Spring is such a great time for outfits as I find it’s when we finally get to step away from all the layers and start getting into the light, easy breezy dressing that we step into over the warmer months. This season, there are definitely lots of trends to love. From matching sets that channel your fave pjs (yes, PJs!) to some of the vibrant hues to add to your wardrobe colour palette and the edgy style you’re going to see popping up everywhere,  here are a few of my fave trends for spring.

Silk sets

Believe or not, expect to be channelling pyjama vibes this spring. Matching silk top and and pants sets are all the rage and they’re such a cool, yet effortless way to dress. Not to mention insanely comfortable! I’ve worn my sets to everything from an event to hanging out with friends on the farm and they work in both situations so easily.

Pink

Pink is definitely having a moment right now. In particular it’s all about hot pink – think Valentino’s pink collection where everything on the runway was in said colour. Also with the Barbie movie on the horizon, there’s definitely no better time to start adding a few more pink pieces into your wardrobe…

Cut outs

Love them or hate them, cut outs are here to stay for another season. I’m a big fan and have found them to be a great design feature in everything from dresses to blazers.

Butter yellow

Expect this to be the colour for summer, but there’s no doubt it’s also a great colour for spring. Yellow is such as perfect hue for warm weather, and it’s a great way to inject some lightness to your wardrobe. If yellow traditionally hasn’t been your thing, you could definitely dip your toe into the trend by adding a splash of it to an outfit whether it be a shirt or a pair of shorts.

Lime green

Along with yellow, you can also expect to see a lot of lime green over spring/summer. This bright hue is the perfect statement piece, whether it be used on a dress or a matching set, and is definitely a trend to watch.

Mini

Expect to break out the fake tan a lot as it’s all about the short skirt this spring/summer. Embrace a brief hemline this season and wear it with everything from a shirt to a tank and blazer. The one rule I have when wearing a mini is I like to balance out the look by wearing something slightly more conservative up top, so often I’ll do a button up shirt, which I find works really well for most occasions.

Platform shoes

If you’ve got a more petite stature, this is definitely the trend to try. Platform heels are going to be huge, and you can expect to see a little extra height added to everything from heels to flats. They might seem a little daunting at first but I’ve worn them to events like the races and I can attest to the fact they’re actually comfier than your typical heel.

Wide denim pants

Forget the ultra skinny, it’s all about a wide leg denim. I do love the effortless vibe of wide leg jeans and find they work really well paired back with everything from a t-shirt to a tank. They’re also ultra comfortable which always earns a tick in my book.

Mesh/netting

Yes, mesh tops, dresses and skirts are definitely going to be on your radar this season. Loewe have been doing cool printed mesh dresses which have been doing the rounds on Instagram and you can expect to see more iterations of this style over the coming months. I think they’re such a cool design feature, and is definitely one way to differentiate yourself from what will no doubt be a sea of linen pieces over the coming months.
