Fashion, What I Wore

What I Wore: Party Purple

20th December, 2022

I recently had the pleasure of unveiling the 11-metre tall Christmas tree in Sydney’s 25 Martin Place, and it was the kind of occasion that called for an outfit that was truly festive. As the tree was located just outside the newly opened flagship Valentino boutique in Sydney, I knew a look by the brand would be perfect. I was lucky enough to be able to work with Valentino to pull together this look and couldn’t have been happier to be able to wear such beautiful pieces. I think it’s always fun to be able to do a party ensemble like this, where it’s about dialling up the glam and embracing a whole lot of sparkle. This sequinned purple mini dress is right on trend, and I particularly love the feathered trim which added just the right amount of drama. Whilst there was certainly plenty of sequinned fun in this dress, I do love how the simple silhouette balances it out. It helped the look from becoming too over the top.

Accessorising with Valentino was never going to be a hard task—they have so many knockout pieces and it was so hard to narrow it down to just a bag and shoes. However I thought it would be fitting to go with Valentino’s ‘it’ shoe in the form of the brand’s platform pumps. I love how it’s a classic Mary Jane style, but the sky high platform heel gives it some currency and a modern touch. Also, working with a whole lot of extra height achieves such a flattering effect. I wanted to add just a touch more extra sparkle (it is Christmas after all!) and I couldn’t go past this Valentino bag with purple embellishment. I fell in love with the textured finish and the gold on purple colour palette. Additionally I thought the texture complemented the smooth, almost filmy effect of the dress and helped balance the look out.
