Style update: 10 pieces to add to your autumn wardrobe

2nd March, 2022

As we officially say farewell to summer and welcome the start of autumn, that means our wardrobes are reverting back to transseasonal styling and everything has to be ready to go from hot one minute to cold the next over the next few weeks. What I’m loving about the upcoming trends and also what I’m seeing in store, is that there are going to be beautiful textures and elegant neutrals on the cards, along with interesting oversized silhouettes and modern takes on wardrobe staples like blazers and knits. It has got me excited for what’s to come in the coming months as temperatures drop and we’re ready to cosy up in our winter warmers again.

Ribbed dress

A ribbed dress is a great staple to have on hand as it’s an easy layering piece that can be worn with a denim jacket or a knit thrown over the top, but also a great option as is when worked back with flats or sneakers.

Striped shirt

If there’s one thing that’s been trending of late it’s a bold striped shirt. Think hues of bright greens, vibrant blues, sunshine yellows, Barbie pinks, you name it! A button down shirt is something that has longevity so I always tend to look for an updated take on it at the start of a new season, and this autumn it’s definitely all about a smart stripe.

Cropped cardi

The cardi this season is all about a cropped length, colourful hues, and if you really want to go all in, a matching twin set style. They look great with jeans or a skirt, and have an endlessly polished vibe.

Straight leg jeans

Our love affair with straight leg jeans continues. It’s a no-brainer as far as denim options go because it works with a variety of different pieces and suits pretty much everyone.

Penny loafers

This most classic of shoe styles will take you from work, to shopping to drinks, all without missing a beat. And they’re so comfy too. Wear them with jeans to a trouser to a dress.

Cut out knits

As someone who lives in knitwear throughout autumn and winter, I am loving this modern take on the humble jumper. The cut out design is edgy and adds a modern feel to this cold weather staple. It would be a dream pairing with denim.

Statement coat

Coats are of course an autumn/winter staple but this season they’re all about adopting styles that are a little bit loud and all about standing out in a crowd. The beauty in a statement coat is that it can become the focal point of a look…while also keeping you nice and toasty.

90s shoulder bag

Shoulder bags with a 90s twist are going to be everywhere. Think a structured style with a top handle and something that can be effortlessly draped over your shoulder when you’re out running errands or out for dinner with friends.

Ruching

Ruching is the styling detail to look out for this season. Expect it on tops, dresses, even pants and it’s the kind of ultra flattering design feature that is definitely worth embracing.

Statement trench

While a classic trench is a forever staple, something you’ll definitely have in your wardrobe for years to come, there’s something about injecting a modern twist to it that all of a sudden makes it feel fresh and on trend. Look for a trench in a print or bold hue and you can instantly elevate an outfit, and give it a new feel.

Corset top

Corsetry is one of the key trends to look out for, and the best way to make it really wearable is by adopting a corset style top. It can be worn in a casual way with denim, but you can also dial up the glam and wear it with a beautiful pant for a night out.
