Simple self-care practices that are keeping me sane

11th May, 2020

Self-care is so very important right now. Taking the time to nurture yourself is critical for getting through this time, and even if you can only carve out 10 minutes here and there, it’s worth giving yourself that opportunity to decompress.

My days right now are really full on with having to juggle work, looking after the girls and home schooling so I savour the moments where I can have a little ‘me’ time. While I can’t rely on my usual self-care faves such as having a facial or getting a mani/pedi, I have learned to incorporate a few simple rituals into my day that help me feel energised and lift my mood.

Training once a day

Exercise has always been a really important part of my routine and even more so now. I’ve found that taking the time to work up a sweat has been working wonders for my mental health. Currently I like to run a few times a week or do an online Zoom class with my Mums Squad. Also we’ve been going on long family walks which is a nice way to train and get out and about with the girls and Luke.

A daily coffee

Grabbing a coffee at my favourite cafe has always been a staple of my routine so I’m really glad I’ve been able to keep this up during isolation. I always grab a coffee every morning on my way back from a run and really savour it. It always perks me up and gets me ready to tackle a busy day.

Fake tanning

Fake tanning is always a key part of my beauty routine whenever I have a big event or I’m going on holiday simply because it helps me feel great. Although I definitely don’t have anywhere to go right now both on the event and travel front, I missed the way having a little bit of a golden glow helped lift my mood so I’ve made an effort to make doing a fake tan a regular part of my routine. I’ve been using Bondi Sands mousse of late and have liked the results but always open to suggestions if any of you have any you’d like to share!
