Style update: 10 pieces to add to your 2023 spring wardrobe

20th September, 2023

Spring is the perfect time to take stock of your wardrobe, do a clear out (they don’t call it a spring clean for no reason) and assess what seasonal updates you might want to make. There are so many trends floating around but it’s important to embrace those which work well with your aesthetic — there’s no need to jump aboard every single one. While we’re still in the midst of transeasonal weather which means the occasional jacket or long sleeved number may still need to come out and play, it’s the perfect time to start planning for summer too. And by the looks of it, we’re in for a hot one! So, here are 10 pieces I think are worth adding to your spring wardrobe.

Wide leg pants

Ah the wide leg pant. It’s become a massive trend and I am all for it. It’s so easy to dress up or down but the big selling point would have to be how comfortable it is. Pair it with a tee, a vest, a tank and oversized shirt – there are so many ways to give this staple your own personal spin.

Trench

A lightweight trench is the ultimate layering piece for this tricky time between seasons. It’s not too heavy so you won’t be sweltering later in the day, but it will keep you cosy if there’s a chill in the air early or late in the day. Plus, it’s the kind of piece that’s forever chic so you’ll wear it for years to come.

Oversized blazer

It’s time to embrace a relaxed blazer as one of the key staples of your spring wardrobe. A great blazer is the perfect piece to tie a look together, plus it adds polish to even the most casual of outfits. Go for a light hue such as cream, white or grey to make it spring/summer appropriate

Denim midi/maxi skirt

We’ve done a complete shift in hemlines when it comes to skirts. Put your teeny mini into hibernation and embrace a longer hemline this season. The maxi or midi denim skirt is majorly trending and it’s such a comfy yet polished way to do a skirt over the coming months.

Oversized shirt

Are you sensing a theme with silhouettes? It’s all about oversized. A button down shirt is always a necessity but it’s time to embrace a little extra volume. Opt for a crisp white or a stripe and you’re all set.

Straight leg jeans

They’re not exactly new on the trend front but you do need a pair of straight leg jeans in your life to get you through the next few months. Paired with a tank, a tee or a going out top (yes, they’re back!) you can’t go wrong with a classic pair of jeans in that great middle ground of skinny and wide leg.

White t-shirt

White shirts never go away but when it comes to the humble tee this season, bigger is better. Embrace a little volume to add an effortless feel to your looks. Opt for a looser sleeve, a drop shoulder and the crispest white you can find.

Ballet flat

This is most definitely the shoe of the season. Whether you do the ultra trendy option of a mesh style or a classic leather Mary Jane vibe, this shoe is going to be the piece that ties your spring/summer outfits together.

Chunky sandal

The other shoe you can’t live without is a chunky sandal. Embrace a style with a thicker profile for an easy way to update your existing looks and give it an of-the-moment feel.

Vest

You need a vest in your life this spring because they are going to be the go-to top to take you through the warmer months. Easily paired with a wide leg pant, a pair of jeans or a skirt, it’s the kind of trend piece that will give any look some extra polish and level up any outfit.
