What I Wore: La Dolce Vita

31st August, 2021

Living in lockdown right now, life is about finding the silver linings, the sweet things that make it worthwhile. And for me, one of those things is fashion. It’s always been something that’s been an integral part of my life, so the opportunity to play dress up (even if it is at home) is something that puts a smile on my face. That and a big bowl of pasta which is without a doubt one of my fave things ever!

I have an affinity with Italy having spent many a summer there during my childhood, Luke and I got married there and I’ve holidayed there with friends and family so it has always had a special place in my heart. So for this shoot, I married my great Italian loves of food and fashion. I am always quite partial to a shift dress but when it’s a cute little Miu Miu number like this, well, how could I pass it up? I love the simple silhouette of this dress but what makes it special are the little design details. The contrasting scalloped collar is all kinds of adorable, while the bow and line of pearl buttons help tie it all together and add a classic touch to the dress. I’ve always found that even the simplest of styles can be turned into something memorable with just the right finishes. I could see myself wearing this to an event in hopefully the not so distant future and it’s something I know I’ll keep in my closet for the girls one day. As for that bowl of pasta, well, that’s definitely something you don’t save for later!

If you’re in a similar situation and currently in lockdown, I highly recommend dressing up in a nice outfit even if you’re just headed to the living room! It certainly changed the vibe of my day and right now, it truly is all about embracing the little things that can brighten your day.

What I Wore: Coat of Arms

27th July, 2021

One thing that can really make or break a winter look is your choice of coat. While it’s primary purpose is most definitely to provide warmth, I think the kind of coat you wear has the power to act as the beautiful bow that ties an outfit together. There are so many different styles of coat to choose from, of course, but I’m always a huge fan of anything in a classic silhouette in a beautiful neutral hue. This Jil Sander coat from Cettire is the kind of style that can easily transcend trends and remain a forever fashion staple. The double breasted style with a belt feature is sophisticated and elegant and can easily be popped over many a look and instantly tie it all together. And the cream hue adds an extra old school glamour feel, but from a practical sense, it really is the kind of colour that could work back with virtually anything.

I’ve written about shopping for coats in the past, and my approach has remained the same. I think it’s important to buy the best quality you can afford—look for beautiful fabrics such as wool or cashmere which provide warmth but also breathe, allowing you to avoid the overheating effect that can often go hand in hand with many winter coats. Additionally I think colour is really important and anything in a neutral or darker shades such as navy, black or grey is a guaranteed winner. You can’t go wrong with those hues as they will pretty much work back with anything. Design and finishing details are also key. Look for clean lines, but also for finishes that can elevate a coat into something special. Consider elements such as belts, buttons, and embellishments which can all work to give a coat a point of difference. Ultimately however a coat has to be something you want to cosy up in, but also something that makes you feel great when you wear it. Once you tick both those boxes, then you’re most definitely onto a good thing.

What I Wore: Snow White

29th June, 2021

There’s nothing fresher than a little white dress. For me, it’s right up there with the LBD is a go-to for easy, effortless, but oh-so stylish dressing. This Isabel Marant midi dress from Cettire is just the thing to have as a failsafe option for those days when I need to wear something polished, without being too fussy. Also, the design elements are just perfection and work together to create a really feminine and sophisticated look. The mutton sleeves are right on trend and a feature piece, and a silhouette that is impactful and makes a statement—a great way to elevate a dress that’s anchored in simplicity. While the deep V, makes for a flattering neckline, and one that helps elongate my frame. I always tend to gravitate towards midi length dresses as I find them to be classic, and such an easy hemline to dress up or down.

The beauty in white dresses is that they’re a blank canvas. You can go anywhere with them. Add punchy, colourful  accoutrements for a bit of playfulness, or some ultra glam pieces to take it into statement-making territory. I went for something quite understated with this particular look as I really wanted the dress to do the talking. So a simple mini Gucci bag added some interest, while black Bottega Veneta heels achieved a nice contrast to the perfectly crisp white hue of the dress.

What I Wore: Orange County

5th June, 2021

Neutrals are a constant part of my wardrobe every day of the week, but sometimes, you just have to go big and bold and embrace a vibrant hit of colour. Enter this Miu Miu dress via one of my fave luxury retailers, Cettire. The site has quickly become a fave as not only do they stock my fave brands, but they have some other smaller labels which have some really interesting pieces. It was during one fateful online shopping trip, I spotted this splash of orange and knew immediately it was something that I needed.

This dress has personality to spare, but also has an elegance to it which balances out the entire look. When wearing a such a bold hue as orange, I think it’s important to have some elements which are pared back and classic, and the shift style silhouette of this dress is something that I wear often for those two reasons. I also love the cut-out and the scalloped hem, finished by the sweet black waist bow. While it still allows colour to take centre stage, those finishing touches make a great supporting act.

Whenever I’m embracing boldness in my outfit, I may a point of keeping the rest of my look quite simple to avoid it looking too overwhelming. So I couldn’t look past my black Bottega Veneta heels. They have an understated simplicity, married with a modern vibe and they were the ideal shoe to pair with such a showstopping look.
