Fashion, What I Wore

What I wore this week

25th August, 2022

We’ve had some really beautiful days in Sydney of late so I’ve been able to break out some fun pieces designed for warm weather. I’m really loving the little bursts of sunny days as it’s a great preview of spring — can’t wait to wear more of that part of my wardrobe. I’ve embraced some classic staples this week and some failsafe combinations, but it has also been fun to wear some statement looks featuring bold colours. Here’s what I wore this week.

Jeans and a white shirt is one of those combinations I don’t have to think about because it’s guaranteed to work every time. These jeans have been such a great addition to my wardrobe as I’ve been able to style them in so many different ways and they’re a great wash to work back with various colours. This shirt is from this year’s Witchery white shirt campaign and is the ideal fit to tuck into jeans, plus I love the pocket feature. Paired with statement earrings, it adds a touch of glam to a daytime look.

Off to an event with this all blue look. Love layering the one colour as it can be so impactful when paired together. This cobalt blue hue is so striking and great for an evening event. This blouse worn separately is the ideal piece to add a polished splash of colour to an outfit, while the pants are a ski pant design which makes them ultra comfortable. I added a bit of contrasting colour with the yellow Fendi bag and my go-to Bottega heels.

Felt like wearing some colour to an event and what better hue to embrace than sunshine yellow? This column dress by Camilla and Marc features soft, splashes of orange-y yellow so it’s perfect for spring-like weather. I also love the sleek silhouette plus paired with nude heels it achieves an elongated effect.

The cutest of tops, this Maggie Marilyn number is a real statement piece. The puff sleeves offer a striking feature and the ruching adds a flattering touch. I’ve always loved the contrasting effect of pink and white and these wide leg pants are not only a great example of a wardrobe piece that embraces understated glam, but it’s a great piece to allow the top to pop. I discovered the perfect pink shoe with these Gucci pumps so of course I had to pair them with this look.

What’s on my shopping wish list this month

1st March, 2019

It’s time to officially farewell summer and say hello to autumn but that doesn’t mean I’m not trying to squeeze in a few last summery purchases. That said it’s the also the perfect time to start prepping my new season wardrobe. I’m embracing warm, earthy tones of tan and beige along with vibrant shades of burgundy and red. This is a great shoe that will help lift an outfit by adding a bright pop of colour.

The simple design and colour palette of this sweater makes it the ideal versatile piece for the cooler months.

Eugenia Kim Mallory silk hair tie

Scrunchies are having a moment and this is a fun option that’s both decorative and functional.

What I Wore: Bright and Bold

31st July, 2018

When you find statement pants this good how can you resist? I love the blue, white and red colour scheme of these Maggie Marilyn pants which is classic and vibrant whilst the striped pattern gives it some punch. Also vertical stripes elongate the body so bonus points for that!

I knew I wanted to work with one of the colours incorporated in the pants when it came to my top and this red tie-up cami also by Maggie Marilyn seemed the perfect pairing. I loved the sweet ribbon detail on the shoulder and the ruffle around the bust which help to give it a point of difference.

When your ensemble is so bold already I think it pays to keep your accessories quite streamlined and simple. My black Alaïa heels and helped to dress up the look whilst my Oroton navy bag with its chain shoulder strap and structure silhouette add a layer of understated simplicity, providing the perfect contrast to the colourful and strong vibe of the outfit.

What I Wore: Dusty Rose

17th July, 2018

When the perfect colour just jumps out at you and you know you have to wear it… that’s exactly what happened when I saw this top and skirt by Maggie Marilyn. With the off-the-shoulder style taking centre stage the last few seasons this ruched top with its asymmetric neckline and butterfly sleeve seemed so fresh and different. It had a quiet understated polish that I really loved whilst still maintaining just a small hint of sexiness with a flash of skin. The skirt with its wrap detail helped give the outfit some depth, and added an element of drama that provided the perfect counterpoint to the ultra feminine feel of the top.

I really didn’t want to overshadow the rose hue of this ensemble so I made a point of keeping all my accessories in a neutral colour palette. My round frame sunglasses added a playful touch to the classic feel of the top and skirt. Meanwhile I knew I wanted to add a dramatic flair with my choice of shoes so it seemed fitting to incorporate my tie-up Aquazzura heels. They added just the right amount of edge to this look, helping to toughen up a look that’s sweet and soft. After all, my motto when it comes to how I dress is all about balance. That and when you see something in the perfect colour make sure you don’t pass it up.

What I Wore: Date with Kate with Poppy Delevingne

30th June, 2018

For my recent Date with Kate with Poppy Delevingne I honed in on a look that was light and airy and a fun colour palette of green and white. It was a refreshing change from a lot of the heavier looks I’ve been wearing during winter and what better excuse to embrace a little colour than lunch with one of my favourite models/actresses.

I am always easily won over by a long sleeved dress—there’s just something about the silhouette and the way it always looks chic and polished that I love. However I also couldn’t look past all the design finishes on this particular Maggie Marilyn dress (who by the way is quickly becoming one of my favourite designers). The cutout neckline, the sweet oversized bow and the ruching all work together to achieve a look that’s sweet without being too saccharine.

I wanted to have fun with my accessories so it seemed the perfect time for my embellished Gucci Dionysus bag to come out to play. My floral Gucci slides added a statement element to the rest of my look and pink sunglasses made for a vibrant finishing touch.

What I Wore: Australian Fashion Week 2018 Day 5

17th May, 2018

I told you I’m all about the suit at the moment. And with it being the last day of Fashion Week for me I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wear this beautiful Alexander McQueen blazer. The cut, the fit and what a colour! These Maggie Marilyn pants have a slightly sporty vibe about them and made the ideal contrast piece to the structured, polished feel of the blazer.

When wearing such a bold, vibrant colour I think it’s a good idea to keep accessories quite pared back. I kept to a simple black quilted mini top handle bag by Dior to carry all my essentials and Christian Louboutin bow heels to give me some additional height (this is also a must when wearing wide leg pants). Small frame Poppy Lissiman sunglasses rounded out my look and helped marry the sleek and fashion forward look I was going for.

What I Wore: Statement Stripes

20th February, 2018

Dresses are always an easy option simply because it requires zero further thought in terms of having to think of what top will match with which bottom. Whenever I wear one I just throw on accessories and I’m done.

This Maggie Marilyn dress is particularly great as I love that it manages to combine a few interesting finishes in one with out it being over the top. The simple slip dress silhouette is elevated by the mixture of statement stripes in candy shades along with the ruffles along the top (if you like this here’s another way to combine the stripes and ruffles, I also like this look) which all add up to a dramatic, yet wearable style.

It’s really a must to let a dress such as this to be the focal point of an ensemble so I opted to keep things quite simple. Metallic Maje slides are the ideal complementary colour whilst neutral accessories in the form a blush Mimco bag and black sunglasses are understated and don’t overwhelm such a standout piece.

Tell me—are you a fan of statement dresses? Do you like mixing different finishing details such as stripes and ruffles?

What I Wore: Colour Clash

30th January, 2018

It’s a colour combination I don’t often wear together but this outfit may have just convinced me that I really need to wear pink and red more than I have in the past. The clashing effect really makes the shades pop, without being too over the top. With such vibrant hues in play, I had to be conscious not to let the rest of the outfit become too overwhelming so I wanted to ground the look with a pair of black Balenciaga sock boots. The sharp silhouette of the shoes make for a great contrast to the soft frills of the skirt, whilst the dark colour helps to dial back the intensity of both pieces. I’ve been really loving the new The Last Lolita cat eye sunglasses from the Adam Selman x Le Specs collab, as the clear frames and mirrored lenses really make for a striking pairing. It’s a fun final touch to such a playful confection of colour.

What I Wore: Frilled to Bits

16th January, 2018

You could go a little texture…or a whole lot for a striking finish that suits summer to a tee. I’m a big fan of the label Maggie Marilyn and this dress from their latest collection pulls out all the stops – a crisp white shade, an abundance of ruffles, and a red and white striped accent all make for just the right amount of statement-making detail to make this a go-to for events and special occasions. Nothing works better against white than a beautiful tan shade and this bag from Gucci is a versatile colour that will the see it work back with many outfits. I love the bag’s simplicity but the signature gold interlocking Gs and exposed stitching give it a bit of extra personality. Meanwhile my Gucci loafers with painted flower detail and candy pink sunglasses add a fun feminine touch without competing with the rest of the ensemble.
