What I Wore: Bright White

10th May, 2016

IMG_0440 copy

I am all about a shift dress. I love the simplicity of the silhouette and when in a fresh colour such as crisp white it’s the ideal year-round dress (it’s also been great as a maternity dress, too). I loved the tie-side detail of this Bec and Bridge dress which gives it a slight edge to the usually more demure look of a regular shift. I’ve teamed it with my Adidas sneakers for a casual day out but it could easily be dressed up with a pair of heels for an evening event. My Christian Paul watch, Preen sunglasses and my personalised clutch from The Daily Edited are the ideal way to add a pop of colour to the neutral canvas of the dress.IMG_0441 IMG_0452

Currently on high rotation…

4th April, 2016

on-high-rotationI try and use as much of my wardrobe as I can but just like every woman I tend to have a couple of pieces that are well and truly making regular appearances. Plus I am all about trying to get multiple looks out of the one item to ensure I maximise my cost per wear. Here’s what’s currently doing overtime in my wardrobe…

Grey ‘Fawcett’ Bec & Bridge wrap dress

I’m slowly whittling my wardrobe down to a limited number of wearable pieces as I try to accomodate a growing bump. This grey Bec & Bridge dress is proving to be the ideal companion during pregnancy. It’s a wrap dress so it’s easily adjusted and means I can virtually wear it throughout my pregnancy, it’s a neutral so it’s easily dressed up or down and it’s a flattering cut and shape. Win-win situation wouldn’t you say?

Adidas white Superstars

White sneakers. I just cannot get enough of them. I’ve been trying to keep these as pristine as possible but it’s tricky when I just want to wear them all the time! This all-white pair by Adidas are the ideal pair to work back with everything from dresses to playsuits and is quite the multi-tasker as they’re super comfortable and chic at the same time.

The Daily Edited clutch

Anything I can personalise with my initials on it has my vote! The range of colours available on The Daily Edited site has meant that I’ve succumbed to grabbing these pouches in a rainbow of colours (see above for proof!) so I can wear them with pretty much anything in my wardrobe. They’re also quite roomy which makes them perfect for being able to take all my essentials with me.

Aquazzura ‘Wild Thing’ heels

Aquazzura is just killing it in the shoe stakes. Season after season I find multiple styles to fall in love with. These in particular. They’re just fun personified! I love the lace up ankle ties, and the tassels and fringing give them a unique touch which elevate them from your normal, garden variety black heels. I’ve found they work with a formal look and something a little more casual so they have definitely been worth the investment as I’ve been able to wear them on multiple occasions.

What are some items in your wardrobe you just can’t get enough of right now?

Style masterclass: Sneakers

8th March, 2016

113

If there’s one thing I’m loving at the moment it’s the fact sneakers have evolved from footwear for the gym to bonafide fashion staple. High end designers have given the trend their stamp of approval with labels such as Chanel and Valentino releasing their very own interpretation of this most practical of footwear. Here’s how to nail the trend.

Casual vs Dressy

Yes, there is such a thing as a casual sneaker and a dressy sneaker. I find the classic white leather Adidas Superstars or Stan Smiths are a little smarter and can work with dresses, playsuits and skirts for a more polished look while a sports shoe such as a black pair of Nikes work well with denim pieces such as shorts and jeans. You could opt for something slightly more classic and go for a canvas sneaker such as those by Superga which would work with a sweet sundress or a classic pair of denim shorts and a white tee a la Alexa Chung.

Clean sneakers regularly

If you’re going with white sneakers be sure to keep them clean so they don’t look like you’ve just pulled them out of your gym bag! Having pristine, crisp white sneakers is all part of the polished effect. If you opt for leather sneakers they can easily be wiped down and the laces can be put in the washing machine.

Keep it cropped

If you’re planning to wear your sneakers with pants make sure they’re fitted (skinny jeans are perfect) and cropped so you can see a flash of ankle. This is more flattering when you’re wearing a chunkier shoe as it draws the eye to the narrowest part of your leg.

Add feminine touches

Sneakers have quite a utilitarian look so it’s good to soften the look by teaming them with more feminine garments. Think pieces like a black slip dress or an A-line skirt. It’s all about maintaining balance with your outfit.

Go for streamlined

If a pair of sneakers looks like something you could run a marathon in then they’re probably best left for doing just that! Casual sneakers should be quite simple (think neutral colours like white or black) and looks more sleek and streamlined as opposed to the kind of style you would have worn to PE back in the day.

My go-to labels

3rd March, 2016

photo_16-08-2015_3_49_55_pm

I love discovering new up and coming designers but I also have a tried and tested stable of labels that I know I will always have something that will suit my style and aesthetic. Here’s who I turn to when I’m after…

Basics

It goes without saying but Bassike is at the top of the list. I love them for staples such as tees, singlets and casual pants. I also love Uniqlo for inexpensive but quality tees and Jac+Jack who do some really gorgeous basics that are a great quality.

Cardigans and jumpers

Winter is just around the corner so I will be stocking up on lots of jumpers and cardigans to layer throughout the cooler months. I love Uniqlo once again, this time for their cashmere knits which are a great quality but also reasonably priced; Skin and Threads for knits especially cardigans; and Jac + Jack also do really great jumpers. When it comes to jumpers, I find if I spend a bit more and invest in quality woollen and cashmere pieces they will last me season after season.

Work, formal and party wear

Work and evening events often transition from one to the other for me so I like to make sure my office attire will also work for an after work event such as a party or dinner. I always turn to Australian designers such as camilla and marc, Scanlan Theodore, Dion Lee, Bec & Bridge and Lover. While Bec & Bridge do a great party dress, I can’t go past Dion Lee for fashion-forward pieces and Scanlan Theodore for beautifully made items for the office such as blouses, dresses and pants. Lover do amazing dresses and camilla and marc are my favourite for everything from casual items such as jeans to dresses, to skirts and camis for a night out.

Statement heels

I buy at least 1-2 pairs of statement heels per season so I often splurge on a shoes that I know are of a great quality as opposed to buying lots of shoes that I know will have a limited shelf life. I opt for designers such as Aquazzura (these shoes are my current faves), Gianvito Rossi, Alaia, Givenchy, Balenciaga and Celine. Net-a-Porter, Matches Fashion and David Jones always have a really great selection.

My trusty Adidas sneakers

Casual shoes

I’m all about sneakers at the moment and I find the classic Superstar style by Adidas works well with most of my wardrobe (Stan Smiths are also a great option) and simple black Nikes are able to extend from active wear when I’m going for walks to casual day wear. If I’m after dressy flats I’ll turn to Me and Her for brogues and Mara and Mine for cute, quirky flats.

What are your favourite labels?

Nothing screams summer more than an all white ensemble. I love wearing this breezy dress for lazy afternoons in the sun and teaming it with a pair of white sneakers for a laidback look. I’m also now all about a backpack! Cast aside memories of lugging a backpack to school and embrace the new trend towards sleek, streamlined bags that are dressier and infinitely more chic. I love wearing a backpack when I’m travelling or even when I’m out shopping or with Sophia as it means I can easily move around without having to worry about carrying a handbag.
