Why the trench coat will be your favourite style staple this season

9th March, 2020

As the temperature starts to drop in the coming weeks a coat will become a must. I’m a firm believer that a coat plays a crucial role when it comes to an outfit and should be considered as much as a dress or shoes. The right coat can pull a look together and is also one way to make a statement.

While I’m a fan of different coat styles, I’ve always found that one of the most versatile coats any woman can own is a trench coat. The shape is eternally stylish and suits virtually everyone. It’s also easily thrown on over everything from a dress to jeans and a tee or a sleek blouse and trousers.

This season you’ll find that trench coats will come in a range of shades so there’s definitely one to suit every wardrobe. I’ve always found the traditional khaki a great pick if you want just one coat that’s guaranteed to take you through the season. However if you want something a little different you could always explore a classic navy, a beautiful forest green or an on trend grey.

If you want more tips on how to style this classic staple check out the video below, and scroll down for some of my top trench coat picks.

How to style longer hemlines for autumn racing (and beyond)

5th March, 2020

I am a huge fan of longer hemlines. There’s something so elegant and classic about wearing a gorgeous dress with a midi or ankle length hem. However I know it can be a little daunting to wear it, particularly if you’re not used to dealing with the extra coverage and fabric of a longer dress or skirt. Don’t let that deter you though because with the right styling techniques you’ll be well on your way to truly embracing this trend.

I was recently interviewed by Channel 7 about this particular trend (which is going to be huge for autumn racing) and shared all my tried and tested tips for working longer hemlines into your fashion repertoire. I promise it’s really easy!

Check out the video below, and scroll down to shop some of my favourite dresses befitting this trend.

What I Wore: Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day

16th April, 2019

Having one of my all time favourite designers make me a custom piece to wear to the Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day was such a privilege. I’m a huge fan of Camilla and Marc and have been for a long time so to get to wear something that was especially made for me was so exciting.

I’ve always loved the look and feel of Camilla and Marc’s blazers so I decided on having a cream tweed suit made. The double breasted jacket and cropped trousers evoked a classic feel, whilst the tweed added a cool weather vibe that was ideal for an autumn racing event. To give the suit some added shape, I decided to belt it with a wide burgundy waist belt to cinch it in and also add a statement piece to my outfit.

As far as my accessories went I decided on burgundy heels to match the colour of the belt and a padded cream headband, which I think worked well with my brand new, shorter hairstyle.

This suit is without a doubt one of my favourite new additions to my wardrobe. I’m already looking forward to the next time I’m able to give it another outing. I’m sure it won’t be long.

What I Wore: The Championships

11th April, 2019

I love a monochrome dress code so I was excited to attend Derby Day at The Championships over the weekend as attire was all about black and white.

I went for a classic look for the day having found the ideal houndstooth print mini dress by Balmain to wear on the day. I loved being able to work a little old school glamour into my outfit via the dress but wanted to still maintain a modern feel with my accessories.

When it comes to monochrome I think gold is the ideal accent colour. So I incorporated a few gilded accessories into my look with a black and gold Victoria Novak headband and gold statement earrings by Clover accessories. I then kept things simple and sleek with black Aquazurra pumps and a dainty top handle Oroton bag.

I think there’s always something about autumn racing events that just inspire me to channel classic looks. And really how can you ever go wrong with the classics?

What I Wore: ATC Lunch

4th April, 2019

As this year’s ATC ambassador, I was excited to attend the ATC Autumn Fashion Lunch at Wisteria restaurant at Sydney’s Centennial Park yesterday. The lunch showcased some of the best looks for autumn racing, with all the looks styled by official autumn racing stylist, Jess Pecoraro. I’ve worked with Jess numerous times for various occasions so I was excited to see her vision for the season.

Pink is a big trend for autumn racing so I opted for this candy coloured Alessandra Rich dress for a polished, feminine look. When working with such a colour I think it’s key to let the vibrant shade take centre stage so as far as my headwear went I decided to keep it simple with a Nerida Winter headband in a matching shade. I then opted for my pink Bulgari bag to keep things tonal then cream Christian Louboutin heels to provide a subtle pop of colour.

I really love all the looks for this particular time in the racing calendar and I’m looking forward to Day 1 of the Championships this Saturday. I can’t can’t wait to see the Derby Day fashion at the track.

Autumn Racing Outfit Ideas

3rd April, 2019

As with any racing event autumn racing is about keeping things sleek and simple. Women’s suiting is still a front runner, yet this season we are seeing a more structured style with waist belts and cinched in blazers, or cropped style blazers to add a more feminine touch. Separates are also a great option allowing racegoers to mix it up and re-wear items after race day – it’s a great way to keep the budget intact. In terms of dresses, this season it’s all about volume, a dress with a statement sleeve or skirt adding that extra wow factor. Colour-wise we are seeing lots of shades of orange, yellow, burgundy, pink as well as strong neutrals. Opt for elegant pieces and experiment with autumnal shades and textures. On cooler days, embrace layering by pairing a beautiful dress with a blazer or coat, and be sure to keep headwear top of mind. This season we are seeing a lot of simple hair clips, velvet and metallic headbands, however traditional felt hats and crowns are still very popular so there are plenty of options.

If you’re heading to an autumn racing event consider some of these pieces to style the ideal look.

My week on Instagram

24th March, 2019

We had a week of typical trans-seasonal weather in Sydney which meant sunshine one minute and torrential downpour the next. The upside though? The girls were able to wear these adorable raincoats whilst out and about on one of our usual walks as they inspected all the gorgeous blooms that are still on display in our neighbourhood.

I also enjoyed the bustling CBD this week debuting a new look by Camilla and Marc that ticked all my requirements for a sleek monochrome look.

And lastly I ended the week attending the Golden Slipper Stakes in Sydney in my new role as ATC ambassador but also to take on reporting duties for 7 Racing. It was great to be able to get in front of the camera again and chat all things fashion at one of my favourite racing events.

Hope you have a great week!

My week on Instagram

17th March, 2019

Such an exciting week this week! I was so thrilled to be able to announce that I am the ATC 2019 Autumn Racing ambassador. As Sydney racing has such a special place in my heart I’m particularly excited to be taking on this role. Plus as a bonus I was able to have Sophia and Grace join in on all the activity which is always great when you’re a working mum and are able to combine work and family.

I was able to share a few of my favourite looks too with the standouts being the white Dion Lee dress I wore to VAMFF and the gorgeous Macgraw top I wore recently on a #whatiwore shoot.

And with such a busy schedule I dialled it back a bit, appreciating the gorgeousness of new blooms.

I hope you have a great week!

Reader Q&A: What should I wear to autumn racing events?

13th March, 2019

Autumn racing is upon us and it’s definitely a great one to dress for. Whilst spring racing generally takes centre stage, I do love being able to play with lots of textures and layers during this time of year on the racing calendar. I’ve received a few questions from readers asking what to wear to autumn racing events so to help guide you, these are some of my golden rules for nailing your look.

Keep it simple

This rule applies no matter the time of year—always remember that any event at the races isn’t an evening event so it’s best to go for looks that err on the side of conservative. If you were meeting your grandmother for lunch, what would you wear? It’s best to keep things like minis, sequins and other clothes you’d wear to a nightclub at home.

Remember your headwear

Headwear is always a must for any racing event but for autumn it’s important to leave any straw hats at home and instead opt for a felt number. If you’re not a hat person there are so many other options available now that you’re definitely going to be spoilt for choice. Think headbands to headpieces with artistic shapes and textures and metallic works of art.

Dress for the weather

It’s time for your open toed stilettos to go into hibernation and replace them with a pair of elegant pumps. If the weather is looking to be cool or wet, then it’s important to bring a jacket with you to stay warm, just be sure to bring the right style. Leave anything bulky at home and instead go for a blazer, a cape or an elegant trench.

Go for less is more beauty

Beauty looks at the races should be elegant and simple. The key is not to look overdone. Keep your base fresh, and add a simple slick of black eyeliner or bold lip. Also when it comes to hair you don’t need to look like you spent hours at the hairdresser. A great blow dry, natural waves or a sleek bun will do the trick and save you hours of getting ready time.

What I Wore: Think Pink

28th April, 2018

Sometimes I just feel like embracing my girly side and this outfit was the perfect opportunity to do it. During a recent reporting gig for 7 Racing on day two of The Championships in Sydney I wanted to wear something striking. What better colour to do that than hot pink? This polka dot Off White dress managed to take such a classic style and steer it in a slighly more playful direction with the asymmetric handkerchief hem and bow tie cuffs. The pin tuck detail also add some depth to the top of the dress.

I wanted to keep the same colour theme going so this Nerida Winter turban seemed the ideal headpiece. I can’t get enough of turbans (I’ve worn variations of them to Melbourne Cup) as headwear for the races. There’s just something quite different about them and is a great alternative to the usual silhouettes you see. Also when the colour matched my dress so perfectly how could I resist?

Pink is one of those colours that can work well with different hues (black and white come to mind) but I can’t resist teaming it with a metallic. My gold Gucci heels helped provide a contrasting colour without it looking overwhelming. Given the strong colour of the dress it was important for me to allow it to be the focal point but still pair it with accessories that could hold their own.
