What I Wore: Chandon Ladies Day

12th March, 2022

Autumn racing is off and running, and one of the first events in my calendar was Chandon Ladies Day at Rosehill Racecourse. I was on reporting duties for 7 Racing so I needed a look that was ultra feminine. I worked with stylist Jess Pecoraro for this outfit and we eventually settled on this look, which incorporated graduating shades of lilac. I’ve always found that wearing one hue, from top to bottom can be really impactful, particularly when you can feature it in varying tones of the one colour. It was all about this slinky midi length Acler dress, which draped so beautifully. The one shoulder and the cinched waist with D ring belt helped to add extra layers of visual interest and helped elevate the dress.

Accessories are always critical to an autumn racing look, and this deep lilac Louis Vuitton bag was the perfect complementary piece to the softer shade of the dress. The debossed monogram and the oversized chain link strap allowed me to incorporate some textural elements to the dress, while the Fendi wedges with its sculptural ‘F’ heel and colour block straps, added the ideal finishing feature to the dress. As always headwear is so important for any racing look so we went for a simple Nerida Winter headband that was in keeping with the whole colour palette, but had an elegant simplicity that allowed the rest of the look to take centre stage.

What I Wore: Everest Day

16th October, 2021

It feels so good to be back trackside after so many months away. I was back on reporting duties for 7 Racing at today’s Everest Day at Sydney’s Randwick Racecourse and was so thrilled to be back doing what I love. Not to mention dressing up again! After months of living in loungewear and activewear it felt great to be putting on a nice outfit and all the rituals that go with a big event. Having my hair and makeup done and the lovely feeling that comes from feeling polished and put together is something that I’ve really missed. And what a look to kick things off with!

This white Scanlan Theodore midi dress has the most beautiful texture — the overlay resembles a cluster of flowers and in a crisp white I feel it just pops. It goes to show how a simple silhouette with just the right finishing touches can really elevate a look and give it some extra personality. Working with white is the perfect canvas for adding interesting accessories, and often it’s the perfect excuse to go bold. So I did. These cornflower blue heels, also by Scanlan Theodore were the perfect splash of colour this look needed and added an extra fun touch. As far as accessories go, I kept my hair sleek and simple, but added two Fendi hairclips to finish off the look. While a navy Fendi pouch was just the right elegant accessory to carry all my essentials, and teal sunglasses offered an extra hint of drama, perfectly offset by the freshness of the dress. All in all, a great ensemble to kick off the return to being at the races. Bring on more days like this!

Afterpay Australian Fashion Week Day 4

3rd June, 2021

I’ve always been a fan of classic tailoring. It forms the backbone of a lot of my outfits, and while classic is great, I do like pieces that have a bit of a twist. An unexpected point of difference that takes a tailored piece into a different direction. And it’s one of the reasons why I was so excited to be wearing this look today. Each piece in this outfit is a classic silhouette but with a modern touch. The classic white shirt I was wearing today  had these amazing finishes such as the metal trim at the neck and the oversized cuffs. I found it took a forever staple like a button down white shirt and gave it a slightly more fashion forward feel. While tailored black pants are always a failsafe option, what I loved about this Camilla and Marc design is the contrasting stitching, which gave it a little extra lift, a little extra personality. And what’s better than a trench to tie a whole look together? This Esse trench is the epitome of sleek, sophisticated outerwear, and when thrown over a shirt and pant pairing, it instantly just makes this look feel extra considered, and so polished.

I’ve been having fun with accessorising this week, but I’ve also discovered just how good my go-to pieces really are. These white Bottega Veneta slingbacks for example have been a welcome addition to my closet for a few seasons and they’ve had quite a few outings this week simply because they’re so versatile. Also I love that it takes a classic slingback silhouette, and makes it more modern with the sturdier heel and strap. I couldn’t pass up this buttery leather Fendi bag, which is just the perfect relaxed shape to provide a counterpoint to the more refined nature of the rest of my outfit. And with a few late nights this week sunglasses were a must! These crisp white Pared sunglasses are a little mod, and proof that even the smallest of accessories can make a big difference.

Afterpay Australian Fashion Week: Day 3

2nd June, 2021

Along with being able to check out all the amazing shows at Sydney’s Carriageworks, one of my favourite things about Fashion Week are the offsite evening events. Tonight, I’m attending dinner hosted by the designer Anna Quan showcasing her latest collection, and I couldn’t think of a better option than a LBD with a twist. A black dress is always a failsafe option of mine for any event, but what I love about this dress is the textural element. The ribbed fabrication is a modern touch, while the cut-out adds a sexy touch that’s befitting of an evening soiree. Also the twisted neckline is a design feature that adds a little extra intrigue. I’m also a fan of a midi length dress for an after dark event as it’s always guaranteed to look polished without being overdone.

Accessorising this look, I wanted to keep things quite pared back. I went for a black structured top handle bag by Fendi: simple, elegant, classic. I didn’t want the look to look too flat and felt it needed just a little bit of relief in the form of another hue, so I called upon my mesh Bottega Veneta heels. They’re a neutral so I knew they wouldn’t overwhelm the dress, but it does break up the black on black quite effectively A few understated accoutrements in the form of simple drop earrings, a timepiece and my Cartier bangle and I’m set.

Feeling Fendi: playing dress up in two very different looks for the brand’s new Sydney store launch

14th April, 2021

I was thrilled to attend the recent launch of the Fendi store in Sydney and judging from the laughs below, I had a ball. And why wouldn’t I? I’ve been a long time fan of Fendi, and have always loved its classic aesthetic, layered with modern touches. This combination makes each piece whether it be a bag or an item of clothing just feel special. I’ve been lucky enough to wear a few Fendi pieces throughout my career, and it’s always guaranteed to make me feel polished and put together.

For the launch I tried two very different looks. One was a demure LWD. It’s a great example of how a classic minimalist silhouette can still feel interesting even without embellishment or flamboyant finishing touches. This dress is the kind of silhouette that I could see living in my closet for years to come, as it’s just so chic and so versatile too. When wearing something that’s such a blank slate, I think you can’t go wrong with vibrant accessories. While I kept my outfit quite clean, I went for a yellow bag to add a little sunshine to this look. It’s just the right amount of colour to lift it, and give it some energy. While a patterned shoe is just the kind of statement piece that gives this look a striking element.

The other look couldn’t have been more different. In this instance it was all about being a lady in red. I’ve always found wearing a scarlet shade gives me a little confidence boost–it’s such a bold colour that I think you really have to own it. The dress’ design is the perfect combination of feminine styling meets modern with the button detail and the flared sleeves, I love how the structure was offset by the playfulness and touch of flamboyance the statement sleeves bring. I went with the patterned shoe for this look too as I thought it offered a great contrast feature, but whenever I’m wearing red, I always tend to gravitate towards black accessories as it’s just such a great combination.

If you’re in Sydney, definitely check out the new Fendi store. It’s a designer playground and one I’m happy to visit time and time again.

What I Wore: Golden Slipper

27th March, 2021

Having embraced plenty of colour with my racing looks over the last few weeks, I wanted to steer things in a different direction this week and went for classic black. Wearing black is always a failsafe option as it’s virtually impossible to get it wrong, but it can sometimes look a little flat so I’ve always found it’s important to choose pieces with a little extra personality whether it be design details, textures or embellishments. So, this Dion Lee dress was the perfect option. It’s a classic strapless silhouette, but I think the cut-outs give it some edge and allow it to make a statement. The midi length is also perfect for racewear as it maintains a polished vibe.

Headwear is of course one of the key considerations of a race day look so I opted for a hat with veil — perfect for a wet weather day in Sydney, plus it helps ground the look. As the dress is quite detailed in its style, the outfit needed something structured and simple. As for the rest of my look, I opted for a burgundy Christian Dior bag to add a little colour, but also the strap is gold which I thought was a nice nod to it being Golden Slipper day. I wanted a closed toe shoe option for this look, so these dainty pumps by Fendi were the right accessory to finish off the look, and had me ready for another busy day of reporting trackside.

What I Wore: Super Saturday

6th March, 2021

I haven’t been to Melbourne, let alone Flemington for over a year and I have to say, it was so lovely to be back. I was in town on reporting duties for Seven Racing once again and it felt nice to be in familiar surrounds again, chatting all things racing and being inspired by all the amazing fashion on offer. It’s one thing I’ve definitely grown to appreciate more, having come back to the races post-lockdown.

I went for a great suit by P Johnson Femme, which was such a striking rich blue and really suited the vibe of the day. I always welcome any excuse to suit up, it’s definitely one of my favourite go-tos for event dressing. I’m really loving how suits have become so much more fashion forward, with interesting cuts and punchy hues, it just makes wearing one extra fun.

Accessories are always a major focus for me with any look for the races and when it comes to spring racing it’s all about richer hues and great textures. This veil by Nerida Winter is such a perfect shade of teal and worked as a great contrast against the cornflower blue of the suit. I wanted to keep the rest of my look a little more muted, so it was Fendi all the way, with classic black pumps and diminutive gold and black clutch.

What I Wore: In Living Colour

20th October, 2020

With the onset of spring I’ve been feeling lots of bold, punchy colours when it comes to my outfits of late. This sky blue co-ord set by Mulberry is just the thing to welcome in the increasingly warmer weather. Not only is the colour all kinds of fun, the delicate floral print makes it perfect for this time of year. My favourite part of this set has to be the blouse. The tie neck gives it a 60s feel and an elegant touch. And worn separately, it would definitely lift any neutral piece.

When embracing colour I think it’s worth going all out and layering vibrant shades to make a statement. And what better hue to do this than a rich apple red? This Fendi top handle bag is the perfect accoutrement to pair back with such a playful look. Also studded with little stars, this top handle bag is just the thing to instantly lift an outfit. To finish off my ensemble I wore two-strap Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Simple in design, they allow the rest of my outfit to be the focal point of the entire look. And when it comes to a colourful outfit, it really is all about letting those vibrant shades do all the talking.

What I Wore: The Everest

18th October, 2020

I was trackside again this weekend, this time for the world’s richest turf race, The Everest. On reporting duties for 7 Racing, I wanted to embrace something soft and feminine and this look by Fendi ticked all the boxes.

I loved the silhouette of the fitted top with peplum and the cinched in waist is a flattering detail. The padded shoulders also give it a statement feature while simultaneously giving the outfit a little edge. The matching skirt gave the ensemble continuity and the clean lines added to the polished feel of this look.

Accessories are always so important at the races and in this instance I wanted to work with the pink hue of the top and skirt so opted for a bag and headband in the same colour family. The textured headband with ruching added a playful, yet elegant touch. I also went for a top handle bag with a woven texture to complement the rest of my look. While the final finishing flourish, were some truly stunning jewels by Chaumet. The earrings, bracelet and ring, all worked together to give my outfit the sparkle that completed it.

What’s on my shopping wish list

17th January, 2020

The first month of the year always has me wanting to get into wardrobe assessment mode to see what updates I need to make, if any, and also what things are looking tired and need replacing. There’s something quite cathartic about starting with a solid, well-edited closet at the start of each year to help me get back into work mode and ready to start tackling big projects. So, here’s my current wish list. What’s on yours?

Printed Wool-Blend Felt Headband, Fendi

Headbands are one of my go-to forms of headwear because they can work back with so many different looks. Also, it doesn’t require much effort to make it happen unlike other hair accessories which may require a bit more finessing.

Layered Ribbed-Knit Camisole, Dion Lee

This is a great cami because it’s a good layering piece due to its colour, cut and style but it’s also easily able to hold its own when worked back with everything from a skirt to shorts and jeans.

Baye Thong Heel, Tony Bianco

Everything 90s is cool again including the heeled thong. I like the neutral tone of these as I know I’ll be able to wear them with so many different pieces in my wardrobe.

The Pouch Small Gathered Leather Clutch, Bottega Veneta

Everything Bottega Veneta is doing right now is perfection. I love the slouchy look of this clutch which gives it a relaxed feel and the buttery soft leather is a dream.

Flocked Woven Mini Skirt, Fendi

Logomania is still alive and kicking and this skirt by Fendi is a great statement piece, yet the colours make it really wearable and versatile.

Heure H 17.2mm very small gold-plated and textured-leather watch, Hermes

I am always on board when it comes to a beautiful timepiece and this elegant leather watch by Hermes is the kind of thing I can see myself wearing years from now as it’s such a classic design.

Shadow Cropped Ribbed-Knit Top, Dion Lee

Another beautiful layering piece. I also like the fact that I could wear this now but take it into autumn/winter by pairing it with warmer pieces.

Colibri Leather-Trimmed Logo-Print Mesh Slippers, Fendi

There’s something about a soft pink that makes the perfect accent piece for many a look. These slippers are great worn back with pants cropped at the ankle but could easily be worn with a dress.

Presley Ring, Amber Sceats

I tend to favour very simple jewellery and this ring definitely fits the brief. This can be paired with other accessories quite easily making it a great accessory to have in my collection.

Daria, Yuzefi

The unique design of this bag will make it the ideal statement piece to finish off an outfit. The colour and the oversized clasp and chain strap give it a really unique vibe.
