What’s on my shopping wish list this month

12th October, 2018

I’ve been so busy prepping looks for spring racing season that it was nice to be able to revisit my regular day-to-day wardrobe to see what beautiful new additions I could make to it. The cold weather has been stubbornly hanging on in Sydney so I’ve not been able to enjoy many spring looks at the moment, but it has directed my shopping pursuits towards some fun trans-seasonal pieces. From a great new LBD, to embellished black flats and a sequinned bustier that’s just made for a big event, this is what’s caught my eye this month.

Miu Miu crystal embellished patent leather flats

A cute pair of black flats is always a welcome addition to any wardrobe, especially when it comes with just a sprinkling of bling.

Roland Mouret caron ruffled chevron top

A great layering piece, with bold chevron detail, I could see this getting plenty of outings.

Elie Saab tiered lace and Swiss dot tulle midi skirt

I’m all about a great midi skirt and this one is a beauty—the colour, the textured Swiss dot tulle and the beautiful layers all work together to make a great piece for work or play.

Mansur Gavriel circle leather shoulder bag

Structured bags have really caught my eye of late. I like the classic, old school vibe of this bag whilst the shoulder strap makes it super practical.

Staud satin-trimmed crepe midi dress

I’ve been on the hunt for a new LBD so I was really excited to stumble upon this number. Love the satin finish and detail at the bust.

Maria Lucia Hohan sequinned peplum bustier top

This is a sequinned showstopper. Love the colour, the asymmetric drape effect and the sweetheart neckline. Plenty of ticks all round.

Valentino crystal hoop earrings

These are a gorgeous take on traditional hoops. Dotted with colourful crystals, it’s the kind of accessory that will elevate any look.

Nobody Denim Bessette Jean In-Love

I’ve been looking for a new pair of jeans and I love the simple silhouette and wash of this pair.

Balenciaga BB printed t-shirt

The cherry red colour of this Balenciaga t-shirt makes it a fun addition to any outfit.

Tabitha Simmons check wool mules

I love the checked pattern of these mules—they are a point of difference that turns this particular shoe into a statement piece.

Ulla Johnson Vienne short dress

I’m quite partial to long sleeved dresses, especially when they feature such a great print. This will be a trans-seasonal weather saviour.

Brock Collection gathered velvet blouse

There’s something about a hit of luxe texture to any outfit that can instantly lift it. I could see this top working back with so many pieces in my closet from casual denim to dressy slacks.

What’s on my shopping wish list this month

7th September, 2018

The past few weeks have been hectic with lots of events and work commitments, but having several things to attend has given me the perfect excuse to do a little shopping. I’ve been busy click up a storm online trying to find outfits and accessories and in the process have managed to accumulate quite a lengthy list of things I really want to buy. It’s still funny weather in Sydney in that we haven’t officially hit spring’s warmer temperatures and are still being met with a few chilly days, so I’m finding myself half searching for things to add to my spring/summer wardrobe, and half searching for things I can cosy up in right now. Looking at what I’ve bookmarked I’m gravitating towards structured, preppy pieces and accessories that have a fun twist and also a killer Zimmermann dress that’s just too beautiful for words. Without further ado here’s what’s turned my head this month.

George Keburia cat-eye acetate sunglasses

Small sunglasses are still here and I’m really into this pair’s slightly futuristic feel.

Zimmermann cut-out floral print dress

Multiple floral prints, the subtle cut-out detail and the dramatic puff sleeves are all winning elements of this dress. Another beauty by Zimmermann.

Dolce & Gabbana gold-tone, resin and crystal earrings

The adorable strawberries drew me to these earrings and the tiny flowers sold me on them.

Balenciaga gingham wool trousers

I’m planning to channel my inner Audrey Hepburn with these trousers. They’d pair well with a cropped knit for winter and a light button down or slip for summer.

Christian Louboutin Iriza Loubi In The Sky 100 jacquard pumps

A girl can never have enough statement heels, especially when they feature that iconic red sole.

Staud Claudia cropped cut-out sweater

I was imagining that this sweater would work well with the gingham trousers, but it would also be great with a pair of jeans or a cute skirt.

De La Vali Sake satin top

A great monochrome piece that I could see becoming a welcome addition to my evening wardrobe.

Amina Muaddi patchwork mules

I like the contrasting patterns on these shoes and think they would work well with a great pair of jeans.

Shrimps beaded box bag

The candy colour and the beading make this a fun little bag to lift any outfit.

T by Alexander Wang cropped jumper

The cropped style makes this a great sweater to pair back with a high waisted silhouette and the earthy burnt ochre tone makes it a statement piece.

Bershka striped heavy knitted jersey jumper

I remember when we were told that red and pink should never go together… now it’s clearly a match made in heaven. This is a great option for those days when I just want to be warm and cosy.

Tommy Hilfiger Laurie leather watch

In keeping with my love of all things pink at the moment, this Tommy Hilfiger watch is definitely one timepiece that can work back with plenty of looks.

What’s on my shopping wish list this month

26th August, 2018

Another month means another wish list of things that have caught my eye. And there have been plenty. I think I sometimes just fall into the right mood to shop and all of a sudden start seeing so many things that I want. It’s also a bit tricky to shop at the moment because we’re still experiencing winter weather but spring is also almost upon us so I don’t want to buy too many things for the current season when I know we’ll have to make a transition very soon. So in trying to navigate trans-seasonal weather I’ve managed to compile a list comprising of a few dramatic accessories, bold, bright colour and textural pieces that are both playful and striking. Here’s what I’m currently wanting to snap up.

16Arlington patent leather pencil skirt

It’s a classic silhouette but the patent leather really makes this quite a striking skirt that would be perfect for a big event or function.

Isabel Marant high neck cotton top

I like the Victorian feel of this top. It’s understated, feminine and has quite a strong air about it.

Staud Moreau macrame and leather bucket bag

I’ve been seeing this bag style around a lot and it has really grown on me. I like it’s natural vibe and slightly quirky feel.

Vanda Jacintho beaded tassel earrings

I’m slowly building up quite an earring collection. I’m loving anything tasseled at the moment and the colour makes it a real standout piece.

Saint Lauren cat-eye sunglasses

A classic shape that’s given a little drama by the cherry red colour. The ideal eyewear to add a pop of colour to any look.

Attico Marabou feather mid-heel pumps

It’s always so much fun playing with texture when it comes to shoes and this pair with its feathered trim is all kinds of great.

Jackke cropped jacket in faux fur

I can imagine throwing this on over a pair of jeans for a look that’s casual yet elevated.

Y.A.S high neck lace detail dress

A black dress is always a welcome addition to my wardrobe, especially one with such great detailing.

16 Arlington cropped shearling jacket

Can you see a patter emerging here? I’m really loving the colour red at the moment. This is a true statement piece and would help glam up whatever I was pairing it with.

What’s on my shopping wish list this month

6th July, 2018

I can’t believe we’re already halfway through the year! Being in the midst of winter but seeing all the amazing looks coming from the Northern Hemisphere has me turning my attention to more lightweight looks for spring/summer. I know we’ve still got a few weeks of cooler temperatures ahead of us but I’ve always liked to plan ahead as far as seasons go so I know exactly what I’ll be shopping for when the weather starts to get a little warmer.

This month, I’m still keeping an eye out for staples such as ankle boots and jackets, but I’m also embracing my new love of classic pieces with a twist. Think a beautiful long sleeved double breasted dress which takes a traditional blazer in a new direction to a crisp white mini with gold accents that elevates a pencil skirt silhouette into a glam statement piece.

Here’s what’s made it onto my wish list this month…

Maggie Marilyn twill mini dress

I’ve shared my love of blazers in the past so it’s no surprise that this dress with its jacket style cut caught me eye. It has taken a traditional wardrobe staple and given it a feminine touch.

Marco de Vincenzo striped top

Love the colours of this cosy knit top. It’s also a great layering piece which will definitely extend its wear in my closet.

Taylor equipped jacket

With a futuristic feel, this little number would add a little edge to a look.

Balmain button-detailed woven mini skirt

Super luxe and chic, this skirt is versatile yet a little extra. The gold accents just elevate it even more.

Mercedes Castillo Norik leather mules

A bright pop of colour adds an element of vibrancy and fun to any look and these mules are a great place to start.

Kaleos Lord acetate sunglasses

It’s hard to go wrong with tortoiseshell sunnies. This pair would definitely see me through spring/summer nicely.

Gucci faux pearl embellished belt

I’ve got a belt like this in black and swear by its wearability. I think white will be ideal for when the weather starts getting warmer.

Saint Laurent crocodile embossed sunset bag

The perfect shade of hot pink that can’t be passed up! This would make any outfit pop.

Rebecca Vallance Bresica ruched poplin midi skirt

I’m into all things midi length and this skirt with its colour and ruching would work well paired with heels or a killer pair of sandals.

Bec & Bridge strappy cherry midi dress

The slip dress works all year round so it’s a worthwhile investment to make any time. Layer it with a tee or knit or wear it on its own, it works equally as well.

Miu Miu Matelassé belt bag

Loving the hands-free element of a belt bag. The colour and shape is classic and can easily be paired with multiple looks.

Balenciaga tartan BB ankle boots

A definite winter item, these boots in an adorable tartan print will be the dress up any ensemble and give it a bit of punch.

What’s on my winter shopping wish list

8th June, 2018

Now that winter has well and truly arrived I’ve been busy planning what to add to my winter wardrobe. I’ve taken stock of my key staples and pinpointed the gaps that I need to update with new season pieces. I’m finding myself gravitating towards a lot of colour in an effort to inject a bit of energy into my looks. This time of year is traditionally about subdued hues and this year I wanted to shake things up and adopt a slightly more bolder colour palette. Here are a few things currently on my wish list—I’m all about striking shades, luxe fabrics and the odd piece that’s made to stand out…

Balenciaga cable knit sweater

How beautiful is this burgundy colour? I can’t resist a cosy knit to snuggle into when it’s cold.

Chinti & Parker crochet trim jumper

I like the red and pink trim on this neutral jumper —it gives it a playful touch.

Prada striped ribbed knit midi skirt

I’m a fan of the midi skirt because it always looks polished. You can’t go wrong with a red and white stripe for a for a bold, yet classic statement piece.

The Row silk and cashmere top

This would be a definite splurge but the colour and the drape is amazing—plus no doubt silk and cashmere would feel so beautifully luxurious.

Fendi embroidered cashmere sweater

Logo tees were huge in spring/summer so it’s no surprise that the trend has made its way onto winter sweaters. I really love the sweet font and the monochrome colour palette.

Saint Laurent high waisted boyfriend jeans

I’m always in jeans so I don’t mind investing in a pair that I know I’ll wear to death. Cost per wear and all that. This would be perfect worn with sneakers and any of the above sweaters on the weekend.

Miu Miu embroidered raffia shoulder bag

It’s always nice to embrace natural textures when it comes to accessories. The raffia bag would make a nice finishing touch to an evening look.

Jil Sander floral brocade pumps

They’re quite the statement shoe, I know, but if you can’t have fun with your shoes then when can you?

Dolce & Gabbana enamel gold plated earrings

Any look can become special with the addition of a pair of standout earrings. These beauties would add a bold touch to a day or night ensemble and take it next-level.

12 Insta-outfit ideas to steal

4th June, 2018

Hello, winter! We’ve officially welcomed the cooler weather and this means a wardrobe refresh to see in the new season. For me, this season is all about staying cosy yet still maintaining an element of polish with my outfits. I love beautiful natural textures such as wool and cashmere, a lot of layering and plenty of standout accessories to liven things up. If you’ve been struggling with what’s in your closet then never fear—I’ve rounded up some of the best style ideas from Instagram so you can revamp your looks with ease.

A post shared by Nicole Warne (@garypeppergirl) on

Update your denim

For most women, jeans are a constant throughout winter. So, inject some new life into your favourite denim by adopting new silhouettes. Looser, relaxed styles such as cropped wide leg is one way to take your casual off duty style in a new direction.

Statement leather

I can’t live without my leather jacket throughout winter as it works with most things in my wardrobe. And whilst the standard moto jacket is a classic if you want to make a statement consider different styles. This marching band jacket is one such piece that works beautifully with a dress and adds a little edge to an otherwise conservative silhouette.

Consider a cropped knit

This style works well with a relaxed ‘mom style’ jean and sneakers however it also works well as a layering piece. Pair it with a button down and you’ve got instant French girl vibes.

Mix textures

The beauty of layering is being able to add a little more depth to your look with the use of different textures. I love the contrast of wool with a slinky silk satin as a way to glam up a winter ensemble.

A post shared by LAUREN BULLEN (@gypsea_lust) on

Be adventurous with your coats

A fluffy coat might not seem the most practical of outerwear options but it really can work with so many looks in your wardrobe. It works with jeans and leather leggings or over a dress equally as well and it’s super cosy too.

Oversize your denim

I’ve said in the past how much I love denim jackets as a layering piece and I’m still all over them. This season try a slightly oversized denim jacket as a topper over everything from a dress to pants or a skirt.

Have fun with winter fabrics

Heavy tweed is synonymous with winter fashion and can often err on the side of conservative. However when in a playful jumpsuit style it can instantly turn it into something fun and a little more relaxed.

Add a punchy print to black

Black is a favourite of most throughout winter because it’s sleek, polished and easy to work with. However it can sometimes look a little flat. To combat this weave a few prints into your look. Polka dots and stripes are an easy go-to and can instantly inject a little energy into your ensemble.

A post shared by Viktoria Rader (@vikyandthekid) on

Experiment with winter neutrals

Freshen up your winter looks with light, airy shades—they’re so fun in summer why not wear them all year round? A white blazer worked back with an eye catching print makes for a punchy and on trend look.

Just add accessories

My favourite way to liven up a look is with a few bold accessories. Think anything in a vibrant shade or something ornate such as a vintage style brooch which can instantly add an element of interest to any outfit.

A post shared by Sophia Roe (@sophiaroe) on

Belt it up

Want to give your blazer a point of difference? Try cinching it with a belt. It’s flattering (hello, tiny waist) and it instantly shakes up the silhouette and gives it a different feel.

A post shared by Emma Hill | EJSTYLE (@emmahill) on

Tuck it in

Want to change up the look and feel of an outfit? Try tucking your shirt (or jumper or tee) in. This is especially the case with winter knits which are given a little more shape when tucked into pants.

4 autumn racing trends that will have you looking stylish trackside

13th April, 2018

I’ve had a few autumn carnival events of late and it has reminded me how much I love dressing for them. The fashion surrounding autumn racing is about embracing rich tones, great textures, a touch of layering and of course, looking polished. While there are some general rules to remember such as wearing felt rather than straw headpieces (these are reserved for spring/summer) and keeping looks conservative that doesn’t mean that there’s no room to experiment. There are some great trends to try this autumn racing season that will ensure you look your best trackside.

Standout shades

Bubblegum pinks and powerful reds are worth considering as they definitely ensure that your look stands out in a crowd. It’s definitely the time to embrace rich hues.

Statement accessories

As always, you can never go wrong with statement accessories. Colourful prints and graphic patterns are both guaranteed to elevate any look. But don’t underestimate the appeal of a simple, elegant accessory such as a black bag with gilded accents. There’s always room for classic pieces.

When you’re styling a racing look don’t forget about your jewellery, especially when it comes to earrings. Whether it’s a stud, hoop or drop style, think of it as the icing on the cake that will ultimately finish your ensemble.

Luxe textures

Satin, tweed, lace… adding some depth to a look with textured elements can really give it a luxe feel. Also it adds a layer of interest and really makes an outfit stand out.

Elegant headbanfs

Headwear at the races is non-negotiable. If you’re not a fan of felt hats however there are plenty of other options available. Headbands are huge. It all comes down to the embellishments this season whether it’s glamorous pearls, a fun bow or feminine florals.

3 trends I’m still very much in love with

30th January, 2018

I know trends are supposed to come and go but sometimes along comes one that just really hits the nail on the head in terms of what I’m in the mood for style-wise. And why stop when you’re onto a good thing? I know there will inevitably be something else that comes along that will catch my eye, but until then these are the three trends I’ve had a love affair with for quite some time…

Feminine Flounces

I don’t know what it is about frills that has me coming back for more but without a doubt I’ve adopted it with great enthusiasm. In particular dresses with frilled trims that add a playful touch and really elevate it into something special.

Slides

I pretty much live in slides all week long. For someone who is constantly in flats, they’re a great style that are ultra wearable and comfortable too. They are so easy to pair with almost my entire wardrobe that they’re just a no-brainer. Loafer slides are my particular faves as they add a polished touch to almost any outfit.

Athleisure

I think I’d be in the minority if I said the athleisure look wasn’t still kicking around in my fashion arsenal. What’s not to love about it? It pretty much gives me permission to stay in my sneakers and leggings all day whilst still being on trend. Plus for someone who needs to spend most of her time in comfy clothes due to having to keep up with two active little girls, this look very much ticks all the boxes.

What are some trends you’re still in love with? Off the shoulder dresses? Bell sleeves? Millennial pink? Tell me!

12 Insta-outfit ideas to steal

2nd October, 2017

So many outfits, so little time! If you’re looking for a little style inspiration then look no further than this month’s 12 stylish ladies. Now that we’re definitely in the midst of warmer springtime weather it’s time to start putting the last remnants of our winter wardrobe into hibernation and start embracing the lighter, breezier looks that this new season brings. Whether you’re looking for a way to elevate a casual look or revamp an outfit with just the right on point accessories there are plenty of ideas here to help make getting dressed so much easier. A wardrobe refresh is just a scroll away…

Try a cropped sleeve blazer

White jeans, a tee and a blazer is a classic outfit combination but that you can carry into spring with the addition of a 3/4 length jacket. It’s a little lighter and more in keeping with the season than it’s full length counterpart.

A post shared by Janni Delér (@jannid) on

Have fun with a slogan tee

Whether it’s a quirky phrase or just emblazoned with one of your favourite things (who doesn’t love french fries?) adding an interesting slogan tee to your look says you’re not afraid to have a little fun with fashion.

A post shared by Mary Orton (@maryorton) on

Embrace a slim tapered pant

A pair of pinstriped pants looks even more chic when they are cut with a slight taper. Keep the rest of your look sleek by pairing it with a top in the same colour and adding a hint of colour to add an element of interest.

Introduce a wide leg pant into your wardrobe

A pair of cropped wide leg pants (especially in white) is a great alternative to your favourite jeans. Easy to pair with everything from a casual tee to a dressy cami and a pair of flats or heels, this is one wardrobe staple this season that will get plenty of wear.

A post shared by Jenny Cipoletti (@margoandme) on

Pay attention to the finishing touches

Sometimes a look is made by the finishing touches. In the case of this 6os inspired ensemble the white pussy bow blouse, blazer with pearl buttons and structured top handle bag are the icing on the cake.

Downsize your accessories

It’s time to give your roomy tote a rest and embrace pint-sized accessories such as this mini top handle bag. There’s something quite chic about being the kind of woman who can carry her essentials in such a diminutive bag.

Pair a dress with a bomber jacket

It pays to pair the unexpected. In this case a spotted midi dress is toughened up a little by teaming it with a monochrome bomber jacket. It’s a feminine look that is made more day-appropriate with a topper that has a more casual feel.

A post shared by Caroline Daur (@carodaur) on

Wear black from head to toe

Yes, it’s not a new concept but there’s something about wearing one hue from top to toe that helps give an outfit a little edge and such a dramatic effect.

A post shared by Victoria (@inthefrow) on

Try a colour blocked pant

The above pants have a distinctly tuxedo-like feel to them but with a more modern feel with the addition of the bright red stripe down the side. By adding pieces that have similar hues it helps give the outfit some cohesion.

A post shared by Alyssa Lynch (@alyssalynch) on

Try an off the shoulder two-piece

A two-piece set always looks effortlessly chic but when it incorporates the very on trend piece of an off the shoulder top it immediately looks very of the moment.

Tuck in a wrap top

A wrap top is ever increasing in its popularity so to avoid your look being ubiquitous why not try tucking it into your pants or skirt for a different take on it. While you’re at it take note that a white wrap top when paired with a bold pant is a winning outfit combination (millenial pink sneakers an optional extra, but oh-so right).

Unleash your girly side

There’s no better time than now to wear a floral cold shoulder dress but to really embrace this ultra feminine look pair it with a ladylike top handle bag in the same hue for a look that screams polished.
