7 outfit ideas I’m stealing from Fashion Week

30th May, 2019

One of the great things about attending Fashion Week every year is the neverending fashion inspiration. From the shows to all the insanely stylish people everywhere you look, there’s always someone or something to inspire a look or two.

I was so lucky to be invited to attend the shows of a few of my favourite designers so I was really spoilt for outfit ideas this year. From Dion Lee to Bec & Bridge and Carla Zampatti, I walked away from every show having sparked an idea for an ensemble or a beauty look. The great thing about seeing all the brands I love show their collections is that they’ve all got such different aesthetics so I find there’s always something to suit a particular event or occasion. From relaxed beachwear to glamorous event dresses and sharp tailoring for the office, I found that for every aspect of my wardrobe I had something new that I wanted to try. For someone who is time poor, I was also thrilled that I could find all the looks I wanted at David Jones, so I can jump aboard these trends with a single shopping trip.

Post-Fashion Week I’ve got a plethora of new outfits I want to do based on everything I saw, but these five in particular stuck out for me. Steal them for yourself, I guarantee your wardrobe will thank you for it.

Neutral colour blocking

I saw this look come down the runway at Aje and immediately bookmarked how elegant and strong an outfit was. Working beige and cream in the one ensemble could be boring but in this instance I think the colours work beautifully together. Offset by elevated details, I think this is a new way to work neutrals in a really striking way.

Aje’s neutral on neutral look
High waisted with a cropped top

Alice McCall’s show was full of fun looks but I particularly loved the one below. I was really into the high waisted pants worked back with a cropped statement top, which is such a good look for a party or event. You could easily take this outfit combination and wear it numerous ways by incorporating other cropped and high waisted pieces from your wardrobe.

Alice McCall’s show sparked plenty of ideas
Bold pants

Bec and Bridge’s 70s inspired collection (complete with shag pile runway!) was so much fun and I immediately gravitated towards these floral bell bottoms. I think paired with a great blouse, it looks sleek and contemporary but most of all has a playful touch that I really love. Also, I love the print on print—a definite way to add a bit of energy to a look.

These pants? So much fun!
Cropped jackets

Hansen and Gretel’s show was filled lots of relaxed, feminine pieces and the one thing it really inspired me to do is to embrace the cropped jacket. Whether worn on its own or as a layering piece, I think it’s an easy way to add a fresh update to an existing look.

Glam tailoring

Blazers are a go-to of mine and I wear them to events all the time. However this made me desperately want to own a sequinned jacket. It’s such a showstopper piece and will instantly elevate any after dark look.

This Carla Zampatti jacket is made for party season
Matching pairs

I’m not normally one for matching my entire outfit from head to toe but I spotted this look at the Thurley show and loved how it was a subtle take on a matchy look. The print on the dress was the same as the ankle ties and visually and sartorially it made a great pairing. I’m going to bookmark this ensemble as I think it’s a great way to play with accessories and have a cohesive theme flowing throughout. If you can’t find the exact same match head to toe you can always just incorporate the colours into your shoes to complete this look.

The Thurley show featured this gorgeous pairing between the outfit and accessories
Playful prints

I am all about a print but after seeing this oversized polka dot look at the Lee Mathews show I am making a point of incorporating it into more of my outfits. I also love the sheer blouse. Both paired together makes for a sophisticated look with a fun vibe.

My fave trends from Fashion Week

17th May, 2019
The Matteau show was all about clean lines

I’ve watched several shows this week and one of my favourite things about seeing all the collections is that I can get a sneak peek at upcoming trends—and pinpoint the ones I really like ahead of time. There were a few different looks that I saw come down the runway that I definitely mentally bookmarked and a lot of trends that I saw that I know will certainly be popular come spring/summer time. I think resort collections are always really great to watch as they’re a great reminder of balmy days enjoying the sunshine. And when these collections drop in the coming months, expect to see…

Voluminous sleeves

I spotted voluminous sleeves come down the runway for Lee Mathews and Aje and I think that we’re definitely going to be seeing them everywhere. There’s just something about a beautiful, bold sleeve that can really make a look stand out in a crowd.

Oversized silhouettes

It’s all about a relaxed fit judging by what came down the runway at a few suchs. I saw a few relaxed silhouettes, particularly oversized shirts at Bec and Bridge so I think we’ll definitely be welcoming them into our wardrobes.

Florals

Do florals every really go away? I loved the soft feminine florals at the Thurley show and floral flares at the Bec and Bridge show expect them to be a staple trend during spring/summer.

Sleek and simple lines

At the opposite end of the spectrum, expect clean lines to be everywhere which is ideal for the minimalist fans out there. Bondi Born showcased swimsuits with simple lines and shapes whilst the Matteau show was about restrained elegance. Everything from the crop tops to the maxi skirts sent down the runway were sleek and uncomplicated.

Lee Mathews show

A little excess

The Alice McCALL show was a celebration of all things just that little bit extra. It was all about feathers, sparkles and everything glamorous. It’s just made for the party season that personifies spring/summer in Australia.

1st March, 2019

It’s time to officially farewell summer and say hello to autumn but that doesn’t mean I’m not trying to squeeze in a few last summery purchases. That said it’s the also the perfect time to start prepping my new season wardrobe. I’m embracing warm, earthy tones of tan and beige along with vibrant shades of burgundy and red. I love dresses with a simple silhouette that can be dressed up or down. This dress will work now with heels but I can also transition it to autumn/winter with a jacket and boots.

TDE taupe Samsung Note 8 case

I like changing up phone cases and this one is a beautifully sleek design.

Sandro Lila belt

Statement belts are always a great way to elevate a look especially in such a bold shade.

Nina Armando Taylor shoe

This is a great shoe that will help lift an outfit by adding a bright pop of colour.

Paloma Barcelo Auriane wedges

I always gravitate towards wedges as they’re the ideal shoe for wearing to events like the polo or the races where I don’t want to be sinking in grass with stilettos!

Maggie Marilyn Far Far Away sweater

The simple design and colour palette of this sweater makes it the ideal versatile piece for the cooler months.

Eugenia Kim Mallory silk hair tie

Scrunchies are having a moment and this is a fun option that’s both decorative and functional.

Rebecca Vallance Harlow mini dress

How cute is this dress? Love the shape and the colour and I can see myself getting plenty of wear out of this.

Rejina Pyo wide leg chambray pants

This chic pair of wide leg pants has an effortless vibe that I really like.

Eres metallic trimmed swimsuit

A totally glam swimsuit option I know, but how gorgeous is the gold detail?

Johanna Ortiz gold toned earrings

I can see myself wearing this to multiple occasions. It’s just the right design to be versatile but interesting enough to stand out.

Ray Ban Clubmaster tortoiseshell sunglasses

A classic shape and brand, these glasses are perfect for weekends spent relaxing and enjoying the sun.

5 of my favourite things this month

23rd January, 2019

What’s currently putting a smile on my face? These five things are definitely getting my tick of approval.

Image: via Net-a-Porter
Christian Louboutin Nosy 100 T-bar pumps

PVC shoes have become quite the thing but as a whole might be a little too much for me. Which is why I love these T-bar heels. The subtle PVC detail is a nod to the trend without being overwhelming and I like the elegant strap.

Image: via Farfetch
Max Mara Ingrid sunglasses

How cool are these frames? The cat-eye shape with tortoiseshell detail manages to incorporate two of my favourite things in the one style of sunnies.

Image: via David Jones
Saba Dharma culottes

Culottes are such a chic way to do smart casual and this pair is ideal for weekends relaxing. Also, the colour is great for summer.

Image: via David Jones

Fitbit Blaze

I’m trying to get a bit more active this year and this is a great way to keep track of how much activity I’m doing.

Image: via David Jones
Mimco Waver baby bag

I don’t need to carry a proper baby bag much these days but I discovered this and couldn’t resist. Lots of compartments for organisation and it looks understated and sleek. If you’ve got a baby shower coming up, this little number is well worth considering.

What’s on my shopping wish list

11th January, 2019

It’s always refreshing to compile my wish list at the start of each year. I’ve done my big wardrobe purge, have scoped out all my fave stores having just emerged from Christmas shopping and checking out the sales and I’m in the right mood for a big style update. So what’s caught my eye this month?

Mimco Acid Dream drop earrings

I’m trying to dabble with a few more bold accessories this year, most especially statement earrings. I love this style for the colours and sleek shape.

Rebecca Minkoff Bree Circle bag

A classic neutral bag that’s made a little more interesting by its circle shape. This is a good one for weekends when I just need to go hands-free as I am busy running errands.

Isabel Marant gold-tone earrings

Another beauty that I’d really love to add to my collection. These have a great silhouette and hammered finish.

Helen Kaminski raffia visor

I’m so conscious of protecting myself in the sun these days that I’ve been drawn to shopping for an assortment of different hat styles. This is a great visor to have on hand when I’m just quickly popping out for coffee or picking up something from the shops.

Zimmermann printed linen shorts

Linen in summer is always a winner and these shorts with their printed finish and bold colour are just the thing to elevate my wardrobe.

Frame embellished mini denim skirt

I’m really gravitating towards denim skirts this season, especially when it features a little embellishment.

Ulla Johnson chambray wide-leg pants

I’ve always liked the look of wide leg pants especially, especially in such a beautiful lightweight chambray. These would be perfect for dressing up or down.

Adriana Degreas bikini

I don’t really do prints when it comes to swimwear and much prefer block colours so these get a definite thumbs up from me. The emerald green shade and the tortoiseshell ring detail make this a fun, yet elegant option for the beach.

Ginger & Smart anchor peplum top

With its simple silhouette, this top is ideal for refreshing my work wardrobe.

Camilla and Marc Bronte top

I don’t wear much brown but I have to say, this crop top with its crossover neckline and ruching is perfect for pairing with everything from shorts to skirts and pants.

The pieces every spring/summer wardrobe should have

22nd December, 2018

Have you started planning your spring/summer wardrobe yet? I’ve been planning my checklist for awhile now and I’ve noted a few key staples that I’d like to add to my closet to welcome the warm weather that’s about to descend upon us. Before doing this I think it’s always a good idea to do a little reconnaissance mission of what’s in store and online so you know exactly what pieces you’re going to be snapping up. It also allows you to pick the best of the bunch and get a really great deal on key items that you know you’re going to be investing in for your new season looks.

I’ve been keeping an eye on everyone from my favourite celebs, to my stylish friends and checking out my go-to blogs and magazines over the past few weeks to pinpoint what’s going to really update my outfits for this time of year. If you’ve yet to compile your list, here’s what I think you should definitely be adding to it.

A Midi-dress

Dresses are one of the most wearable, stylish things you can add to your spring/summer wardrobe. Opt for one in a gorgeous print that will take you through many a sunny afternoon looking effortlessly chic.

A Co-ord set

A co-ordinating set is an easy way to look polished without really trying. There’s something about a matching top and bottom that just screams stylish whether it be a blouse and shorts or a skirt and slip, there are so many different sets to shop this season you’ll be hard pressed to limit yourself to just one.

Sandals/slides

Summer calls for at least one trusty pair of sandals or slides that you can easily slip on. I’ve really started gravitating towards slides as I like how wearable they are, however it really depends on what feels comfortable—some people like the support a sandal gives. You can always go for classic colours such as black, white and tan however I think the sunny weather at this time of year is a great excuse to embrace vibrant shades that will pop against any outfit.

A straw bag

If you’re going to buy one bag this season make it a straw one. Whether it’s a satchel, top handle or bucket style there’s definitely a trend towards embracing natural, earthy materials as far as bags go.

Lightweight trousers

I think there’s nothing better than a pair of linen trousers to keep cool during spring/summer. They’re also super easy to pair with everything from a button down shirt to a plain white tee so you’re guaranteed to get plenty of wear out of them.

Bold sunglasses

Don’t step outside without a pair of great sunglasses by your side. I think now is the perfect time to push the boundaries a little—think coloured frames or interesting embellishments for a little fun.

A statement skirt

I am loving bright printed pleated midi skirts at the moment as they’re seriously easy to wear whether I’m off to work or on mum duty. However if midi’s not your style, there are still plenty of options whether it’s a knee length wrap skirt or a cute mini. Just don’t be afraid to go bold!

Sneakers

A pair of trusty sneakers always has a place in any wardrobe, whatever the season. Chunky dad style sneakers are in at the moment but if they’re not your scene, you can always turn to a pair of classic white trainers. Whether they be from classic French brand Superga to urban-ready Adidas or a designer pair by Gucci or your favourite go-to brand you’ll be guaranteed to be turning to your sneakers multiple times a week.

5 of my favourite things this month

26th November, 2018

There are so many amazing things around right now that it was almost impossible to compile this list. Each month I fall in love with a few things especially hard so instead of keeping it to myself, I thought I’d share in case it’s something that might put a smile on your face too.

Lulu Vintage Wicker dolls pram

As you can imagine my daughters are at the age where they’re heavily into dolls and there’s nothing they love more than looking after them, often role playing the things I do as a mum. A doll pram is something they’ve been really wanting and I couldn’t resist the Lulu Vintage range that I found on a great store called Little French Heart. Not only is it beautifully made, the design is so cute and they come in a range of colours. The dolls in our house have been having a great time in them!

J Bronze fake tan

It’s that time of year again where everyone wants to look sun-kissed. I don’t like baking in the sun so to get a golden glow I’ve been using the J.Bronze fake tan range at home and I’m seriously loving it. It’s really easy to use, comes in a range of shades and is available in a mousse, spray or cream so there’s a type to suit everyone.

We Are Poolside The Ashleigh + Mirror

Natural textures are huge this summer and this raffia bag is a new fave of mine. It’s a great size for carrying around my essentials but not overly big and it comes fully lined with a mirror in the lid which makes for easy makeup touch ups on the run (especially when I’ve just come from the beach). It also ticks a box in that it comes with a strap so I can either carry it or wear it crossbody style which is something I tend to look for when it comes to any bag I own.

Mara and Mine Sagittarius slippers

I always gravitate towards pieces that are able to have a personalised touch especially when it comes to my accessories. This is why I really liked these Sagittarius slippers by Mara and Mine. They’re a great shape and I liked the subtle embroidery, plus I can wear my star sign loud and proud. I think they’d make a particularly great gift.

Statement sleeves

One thing I can’t get enough of this month is statement sleeves. One label doing them really well is Zimmermann. I think they’ve got the balance right between being bold and still being wearable and I’ve found them so easy to pair with several pieces in my wardrobe. If you’re looking for something a little different this party season definitely give this style a go.

30 spring racing headwear options for a winning look

19th October, 2018

Putting together a spring racing look takes loads of time and effort but often headwear can be a last minute consideration. Don’t make this mistake as the right headpiece can actually end up making a look. Case in point: I fell in love with a pink Gucci turban and ended up working last year’s entire Melbourne Cup look around it such was my determination to wear it.

Over the years I’ve tried everything from hats to headbands and turbans and can attest that they were the finishing touch that really elevated my outfit. I find choosing my headwear a fun experience as the sky is the limit when it comes to shapes, textures and styles. I often like to go big and bold and am drawn to pieces that make a statement.

If you’re heading to the races and are on the hunt for the ideal headpiece, then look no further as I’ve rounded up 30 gorgeous options to suit every style.

Option 1: Hats

A beautiful hat is always a classic option but remember straw hats are for spring racing, felt for autumn racing. If you want something a little different, an emerging trend is leather hats which are modern and a bit daring and are a departure from your more traditional options.

I went for a crisp white hat for Derby Day in 2015

Option 2: Headbands

I’ve got a soft spot for headbands as race day headwear as they’re feminine, fun and so easy to wear. I’ve opted for everything from a big bow to jewelled embellishments and even my name over the years and my love affair with this style still endures. The great thing about headbands is that you can extend their wear long after spring racing is over which is a definite plus.

A throwback to last year’s spring racing season. I loved this Gucci headband and its oversized bow dotted with pearls.

Option 3: Go bold

From fascinators to embellished hair clips and my personal fave – the turban I am all for embracing headpieces that are unique with an added element of personality. I’ve worn everything from a turban fashioned out of bronze mesh to a gold wreath in the past and love thinking outside the box when it comes to headwear. This year, don’t be afraid to push the boundaries…

This is the Gucci turban that I centred my entire 2017 Melbourne Cup look around!

What’s your favourite style of racing headwear?
