What’s on my September shopping wish list

Hello, spring! A brand new season calls for a closet refresh and this month my shopping wish list is all about light and airy pieces (with touches of glamour for a little bit of drama) that will see me through the next few months. From sandals to sundresses my spring/summer wardrobe is shaping up to be one that’s relaxed and understated with a few pops of colour to add a bit of pep to my looks. Check out what’s made it onto my September shopping wishlist below…

Plaice Nationale midi skirt

I can see this crochet midi skirt taking me from beach to drinks with minimal fuss.

Illesteva silver tone sunglasses

Statement sunglasses are one of my favourite purchases each season so I couldn’t resist this pair of round frames with dramatic mirrored lenses.

Charlotte Chesnais earrings

Earrings in interesting shapes are one of my styling shortcuts to elevate an outfit. This pair can easily work for day or night making it a truly versatile purchase.

Aquazzura two-tone suede sandals

Flat sandals are a staple of my spring/summer wardrobe and I am particularly loving this pair by Aquazzurra due to its fun tasseled detailing.

Marysia scalloped bikini

I love Marysia’s signature scallop-edged swimsuits due to its ultra feminine vibe, and especially love the style in a very on trend antique rose pink. I’m always at the beach during summer so this bikini will definitely be worth it from a cost per wear angle.

Mercedes Castillo leather slides

It seems I can’t ever have too many pairs of slides and this elegant geometric inspired pair will easily work with myriad outfits in my spring/summer wardrobe.

Three Graces London cotton blend dress

I love having a great casual summer dress on hand as the weather heats up as it’s an easy and simple option for those days when I just want to head out the door fast. I’m also loving the striped print of this particular frock.

Caroline Constas off-the-shoulder top

The off-the-shoulder style top shows no signs of waning in popularity. A bohemian style striped top such as this will work well with high waisted shorts, skirts and pants.

Eugenia Kim straw sunhat

Beautiful hats are a weakness of mine and I can see this straw sunhat accompanying me on many trips to the beach.

Gucci are once again killing it in the accessories department. This mini bag is a splurge but oh-so worth it for its show-stopping design.

I love adding bright pops of colour to my wardrobe during spring/summer and this ruffled blouse works for dressy occasions while still maintaining an element of fun in such a vibrant golden yellow shade.

The deep burgundy shade of these Alexander Wang slides keeps them classy whilst the velvet and circular net design make them a little bit edgy.

Aquazzura sweet lover sandal

It’s no wonder Aquazzurra is one of my favourite shoe brands—they just get it right all the time. These sandals with its crystal detailing add a luxe touch to any after dark look.

I find you can never go wrong with a crisp white dress. The pleated skirt and fitted bodice make this a perfect option for a dressy lunch.

What’s on my summer shopping list

Summer is always one of my favourite seasons to shop for and after checking out what trends have been popping up in the Northern Hemisphere over the last few months I’ve been getting more excited to start pulling together my shopping list. Here’s what I’ve got my eye on…

Loren Stewart necklace: A lot of the necklines popular during summer require showing off the décolletage so I’ve been looking for a great minimalist necklace to complement the new pieces I’ll be adding to my wardrobe.

Lisa Marie Fernandez wrap bikini: A new bikini is one of the things I look forward to purchasing during summer and this navy bikini with its wrap detail is a chic option for wearing whilst sitting poolside.

Alexander Wang espadrilles: White sneakers and espadrilles are both big trends for summer and this is a really cute marriage of the two. I can imagine wearing this with flowy summer dresses.

Bassike striped dress: I like having dresses that I can easily throw on without too much fuss and this striped dress is a no-brainer. It’s perfect for when I need to get out the door fast (which I need to do a lot these days!)

Castillo beach towel: I frequent the beach often with my family so I can never have enough beach towels. I love the colourful mix of prints on this and it also has such a distinctive look that I’ll be able to spot it easily.

Ace of Something woven fedora: I’m a stickler for sun protection so I’ve been on the hunt for a great wide-brimmed floppy straw hat to wear to the beach. I love the leather cord around this particular style – it gives it a modern touch.

Ancient Greek sandals: Black and tan sandals are of course staples during summer but I wanted something a little more feminine and really liked these pastel pink, calf-hair sandals by Ancient Greek. Pink is also a surprisingly easy colour to wear and can almost be considered a neutral in this particular shade.

Le Specs round sunglasses: I wrote about my love of sunglasses earlier in the week so of course I’ve been on the look out for a cool new pair of sunnies to add to my collection. In a matte silver these are quite modern and with mirrored lenses they’re a great statement-making piece.

Anna October cold shoulder top: There’s nothing quite like a crisp white top to pair with a skirt or shorts during summer and I think the cold shoulder silhouette is a nice take on the off the shoulder trend. This is an easy option for days when I need to look dressed up with minimal fuss.

Melissa Odabashi beach dress: I’ve been looking for an easy cover-up for the beach and this is perfect. I like the navy shade and the subtle stripes and lace trim. I can see myself throwing this on over a bikini and heading off to lunch.

Maison Michel hemp straw hat: Whilst the floppy straw hat is perfect for the beach I wanted something I could wear whilst running around doing errands or heading out for the day and I think this has the right amount of polish.

Dolce & Gabbana crystal iPhone case: Summer’s for having fun, right? I love how colourful and vibrant this phone case is and it reminds me of being on holiday. Plus who doesn’t love a touch of D&G?

Dolce & Gabbana one-piece: I’ve been on the hunt for a great one-piece for awhile and when I saw the Sicilian print on this it sealed the deal for me as it reminds me holidaying in Italy. I think every girl needs a one-piece in her swimsuit wardrobe this summer.

Sarah’s bag Pacifico wooden clutch: Yes, it’s completely over the top and definitely not the type of clutch that you’d classify as a ‘classic’ but it’s so bright and fun how could I resist?

Lila Eugenie kaftan: I can see myself getting plenty of use out of this kaftan over many summers. I just love wearing white during summer as it’s so fresh. All it needs is a great bikini and a pretty pair of sandals and I’m set.

What I Wore: Wrapped up

Battling the chilly weather during winter is made a little easier with the help of a great coat. A quality wool coat will ensure you stay cosy and warm but the right cut and style will also ensure you stay looking chic.

Whilst dark shades such as navy and black are reliable shades to ensure maximum wear out of a coat it’s often fun to step out of your comfort zone and try something a little different. Camel and grey are both colours that are versatile and effortlessly wearable but give you a point of difference at the same time.

Also, don’t forget about the silhouette. Often relaxed styles such as a wrap coat are wonderful for layering whilst a belted coat is ideal if you want to accentuate your shape. A longer line coat is ideal if you’re more apple-shaped and want to streamline your figure.

I’ve found that this camel coat has been great for adding a pop of colour to an outfit and when you’re in the latter stages of pregnancy like I am, any pieces that can easily be layered are a wardrobe saviour (you can find the other building blocks of a great pregnancy wardrobe here). When teamed with a simple white button down shirt and black leggings it’s also a comfortable but polished look.

The dos and don’ts of wearing a choker

The ‘90s comeback has meant that the choker has also made a triumphant return, with everyone from Kendall Jenner to Gigi Hadid getting behind this trend. And why not? It’s an easy way to update a look and one that won’t blow the budget – you can even DIY if you want. So if you’re thinking of adding this to your fashion repertoire here are some things to remember…

Do consider necklines when wearing a choker. A deep V-neck or strapless silhouette that exposes your décolletage makes a choker look especially alluring. A one-shoulder neckline (similar to what I wore above) that shows off the clavicle also works well.

A choker will always look great for the evening so do wear it out on a night out – a metallic choker will look especially chic when the sun goes down.

Don’t go too tight when it comes to neckwear! A choker should sit comfortably around your neck and move around quite easily. This also makes for a more flattering fit.

Do experiment with different widths. Whilst a thicker choker will definitely make a statement a thin leather band looks great when wrapped around the neck a few times.

Don’t forget about the humble scarf. Wrapping a scarf around your next and tying it artfully is something that French women have mastered and it looks super chic when doing so. A simple silk scarf that you can wrap around your neck then tie in front is a great alternative to the traditional metal or leather choker.

Do try pairing a choker with casual wear. Street style fave Gigi Hadid has often been spotted wearing a thin choker with a simple tee and a hoodie that gives the look some edge.

Fall in love with… the bomber jacket

If there’s one piece guaranteed to update your winter wardrobe it’s the bomber jacket, which has proven itself as one of the key essentials of the season. The sleek, sports-inspired piece is one of my top choices for a casual weekend ensemble and when teamed with a pair of jeans and a classic white tee it instantly takes your downtime wardrobe into chic territory.

There are plenty of bomber options out there at the moment whether you want one in a classic military green, with some serious embellishment or pretty embroidery.

Some of the options that have caught my eye are…

A sweet powder pink bomber by Maje which would look great with an all neutral outfit.

Needle & Thread’s bomber with colourful floral embroidery, beads and sequins are ideal paired with flowy dresses or wide-leg pants. Also loving this Jonathan Saunders option.

DKNY’s black jacket which features cape-effect sleeves is perfect for draping over your shoulders.

5 Fashion Week Street Style Trends You Need to Know About

The sheer volume of stylish people descending on Fashion Week means the odds were pretty high for some serious trendspotting. Whilst there are always a lot of unique looks that will turn heads and incite major wardrobe envy there were also a few standout trends that a lot of the fashion crowd had in common. When it comes to what’s to come, these are the must-haves to start scouting around for.

The trend: Chokers

The staple accessory of the ‘90s is making a comeback. This time around chokers have been incarnated into elegant metallic statement pieces such as the below from Eddie Borgo and Kate Spade that are infinitely more refined than their ‘90s counterparts. If metallics aren’t your thing you could also go with a simple plain black option with extra adornments.

The trend: Architectural white shirts

A white shirt is always a staple. That’s a given. However there were a lot of statement white shirts to be seen during Fashion Week. Whether it be one with cut-out shoulders, billowy bell sleeves, exaggerated lapels or asymmetrical cuts, it was like the white shirt suddenly got some attitude. Ellery, Givenchy and Maurie and Eve have some great options to satisfy every white shirt whim.

The trend: Bomber Jackets

Once the domain of varsity football players in American TV shows this is one trend that will be huge this season. And there’s a bomber to suit every taste and budget. Whether you opt for a plain bomber in a classic colour such as black or navy such as this one from Tod’s and ASOS, take a walk on the wild side with a interesting print or try a jacket with unique embellishment you can’t go wrong with this trend.

The trend: Fringing

The ‘70s trend is huge this season and was reflected in the amount of fringing that made a cameo at Fashion Week. There were fringed bags, fringed skirts, fringed jackets… It was all about the swish factor. Dipping a toe into this trend is easy with a fringed bag (Elizabeth and James, ASOS and Rebecca Minkoff have some great options), then you can work your way up to more statement pieces such as skirts and jackets.

The trend: Block heel court shoes

Sensible shoes are making a comeback (hello, sneakers) and it was only a matter of time before heels joined the party. Stilettos without a doubt look polished but the comfort factor leaves a lot to be desired. Enter block heel court shoes. Inspired by Gucci’s Marmont shoe (as seen on Brooke Testoni), the block heel will be one of your go-to shoes this year and the best bit is, you’ll be comfortable while strutting around in them. You’ll also be glad to know that Lanvin and Chloe have joined the block party with this and this.

Winter essentials from David Jones Autumn/Winter 2016

David Jones launched their Autumn/Winter 2016 collection last night and with every great look that went down the runway I had more and more items quickly added to my shopping list. While the weather won’t cool down for a few more weeks I’m definitely getting excited at the prospect of updating my winter wardrobe with some of these wardrobe essentials (plus some budget-friendly options too).

Look 1: The White Shirt

A white shirt is a must. It’s one of the most wearable and versatile pieces in any woman’s wardrobe so I think you can never have too many. Whether you opt for an open back style that’s a little more daring or a button down classic style it’s the kind of item that will definitely get plenty of wear.

A soft grey is a great option for a winter coat. It stands out from the crowd in a sea of black and navy plus it works beautifully when kept tonal with lighter colours such as white and cream. I also love the streamlined silhouette of this coat which once again sets it apart from the crowd.

A black tote is the kind of addition to any wardrobe that will always be in high rotation. I know I’m forever needing a bag that can easily carry everything I’ll need during the day when I’ve got multiple appointments and my to-do list is a mile long. I’m also all about keeping it simple and this classic design meets that brief while still being able to house all my day to day essentials.

What I Wore: Mix it up

When consistently faced with new trends it’s easy to get caught up in the trend and dress in that style from head to toe. To avoid becoming a slave to current trends it’s important to identify the elements of a trend that work for you and give it your own individual touch. I am loving the military and 70s trend at the moment so decided to work them together for what is one of my new fave looks for the season. I worked with the khaki colour palette of the military trend with this dress by Karen Millen and added a suede fringed jacket (also from Karen Millen) as a nod to the 70s trend. I’m a big fan of versatility in any item in my wardrobe so I love the fact that the dress is office-appropriate while also being able to be dressed down for casual weekend wear and the fringed jacket can work with everything from a dress to a tee and crisp white jeans.

MBFWA: my fave trends

70s denim at Manning Cartell

You can also spot multiple trends emerging from Fashion Week but this year I particularly liked the 70s trend. The Bec and Bridge show was very 70s inspired, and most of the shows I saw had a 70s element to it, whether it was referencing it through silhouettes such as flared pants or sleeves or prints.

Last Fashion Week I felt it was all about pieces being very structured and tailored whereas this season it was all about relaxed silhouettes. It was all just a bit looser and a bit more billowy as as we saw at Ellery or flowing and ethereal such as what was in the Bec and Bridge show. The silhouettes were different but it was still beautifully tailored and crafted. It was an interesting take on the relaxed boyfriend style.

And it seems we’re still all about prints. There were lots of geometric prints and lots of 70s inspired patterns. I’m very much looking forward to spring/summer!
