What I Wore: Ciao, Gucci Sydney

27th October, 2020

I’ve been a longtime fan of Gucci and the one thing the brand can always be relied upon is to produce beautiful accessories. To celebrate the brand’s flagship Castlereagh Street store in Sydney reopening, they have released this limited edition Sydney tote. And it just screams summer with its vibrant colour palette and textured finish. Tote bags are a constant in my wardrobe, simply because as a mum, I’m often having to cart around my essentials along with the girls’ and having something that’s crafted beautifully and will stand up to daily wear and tear is always high on my list. This bag does just that, while still having a high fashion feel.

I love having wardrobe shortcuts for those days when I just want an easy outfit and maxi dresses are always a go-to. They require minimal effort and I always feel polished and put together whenever I have one on. I think it’s why over the years I’ve managed to cultivate a healthy collection of dresses as they’re such a key staple and can be dressed up or down in myriad ways. This Gucci dress is ultra special with its monogram print, but what I love most is the attention to detail. The simple tie around the waist, the pleated skirt and shirt-style top all work together and achieve a dress that’s destined for many an outing.

What I Wore: On Safari

1st September, 2020

We had a glimpse of summer over the weekend in Sydney and it got me excited to start delving into my spring/summer wardrobe. As if I needed further proof that co-ord sets are quickly becoming one of my fave go-to looks, along comes this Bec and Bridge outfit. This look is a modern take on the traditional safari suit and is such a fun option for spring/summer. The cropped top and pants work together to create a fresh silhouette while the the neutral hue is the perfect versatile shade for when the weather starts to warm up. Also I love the button detailing which provides the ideal finishing touch. Additionally, both pieces can work separately with other things in my wardrobe ensuring they’re able to do double duty.

This look is quite polished so I wanted to add accessories in keeping with that vibe, but given it’s quite a pared back ensemble, I also wanted to add a few accoutrements that would add a little energy to it. Enter this tasseled bag by Strathberry. The bright pop of orange and oversized tassels add a funky element and add a nice hit of colour. Meanwhile I opted for a pair of simple white Gucci thongs to keep things understated while these square frame Karen Walker sunglasses are going to become quite a regular feature of my summer wardrobe.

What I wore working from home

6th August, 2020

It’s been a week all about comfort dressing. I wanted to power through a few things on the work front so I was all about fun pieces that are still ideal for putting in some quality time with my laptop. So jeans and jumpers were the order of the day, but with a few punchy accessories in the mix to liven things up. Here’s what I wore working from home this week.

I love this jumper because the print and colour is simply all kinds of fun. It’s a great mood lifter and works brilliantly with denim so really, I can’t ask for more. These ripped jeans by Ksubi are ideal for a desk day and add a touch of edge to any look.

A little black and white on an unseasonably warm day in Sydney. I’ve been wearing a lot of Uniqlo basics as they’re so great for mixing and matching with different looks. I paired them with Chanel sneakers to add a touch of luxe (but still very practical) and a Dion Lee skirt just to dress it up a bit.

These straight leg jeans by Aje are so comfortable and really great for providing the starting point for an outfit. I went for a classic black and red combination today with this vibrant jumper from one of my fave brands, Skin and Threads.

Whoever made tracksuits a bonafide style staple deserves a medal. I love this Camilla and Marc set because it’s high on comfort levels but and ticking a trend box all at the same time. I paired them with a neutral pair of sneakers by D.O.F to finish off the look.

Gucci live streams its latest collection ‘Epilogue’ by Alessandro Michele

18th July, 2020

Many designers have had to pivot the way they’ve done their shows post-COVID so it’s been interesting to see brands reimagining how they showcase their collections. Gucci’s latest show ‘Epilogue’ epitomises this perfectly. The show, the last of Milan Digital Fashion Week, took the form of a visual narrative that involved a 12-hour livestream in two locations in Rome, the Palazzo Sacchetti and Campo Boario. What was even more interesting was that creative director Alessandro Michele eschewed the traditional format of models on a runway in favour of casting the team from his design office to showcase the latest collection. The result was fresh and innovative, and something that definitely challenges the tried and tested formula of a typical fashion show.

Gucci being Gucci, there were plenty of looks to love. I found myself bookmarking a few pieces and styling ideas for (fingers crossed) future events. I particularly enjoyed all the vibrant colours, from teal to punchy pinks and a beautifully eye-catching shade of emerald green. Also, the use of clashing prints ranging from soft florals to bold paisley patterns was particularly striking. A few things I took away from the show — and will definitely be trying — were mixing textures to create a layered look with depth and also incorporating headwear in its different iterations, such as 70s inspired headscarves and a pink boater. The latter is something I will definitely be keeping an eye out for for spring carnival.

Overall it was such a beautiful moment for the Gucci brand, with fashion industry insiders and fans both being able to enjoy the event around the world, without even having to leave their home. I hope it’s a sign of a more modern and adventurous approach to how brand’s showcase their collections in future, because ultimately fashion is there to push boundaries, innovate and introduce us to new ideas.

The live-streaming locations

The visual narrative was live streamed from Rome’s Palazzo Sacchetti, a gorgeous late Renaissance building steeped in history, and such a great juxtaposition to a show that was modern, a little experimental and ingenious. While the other location was Campo Boario, a former slaughterhouse which is now known for its street art and graffiti.

My favourite looks

While it was hard to pick from the 76 looks on show, I found myself gravitating towards the below looks. I loved how they celebrated colour and texture, but also the layering of prints and the use of striking accessories such as headwear, scarves and eyewear to enhance each look.

What I Wore: Monochromatic Moment

7th July, 2020

Working with varying hues of a single shade can result in a really striking look, and is such a modern way to play with colour. When I saw this Manning Cartell look in varying shades of tan I knew it was the perfect opportunity to do it. And while all three play really nicely together, the beauty of working with neutral pieces is that they also work well separately. I could easily wear this coat, knit and pants with other pieces I already own, making them versatile options throughout winter.

I wanted to continue the colour thread in my accessories, so it was the perfect opportunity to incorporate my Bottega Veneta mesh heels. While the rest of the look is quite classic, these heels are a little punchier in its design, so is the perfect counterpoint. I have had this Gucci bag for a few years and it was the ideal option for this outfit. Just the right shade, look and feel made it a no-brainer option. I finished this look off with black Poppy Lissiman sunglasses, which also added just a hint of contrasting colour.

The next time you want to pull together an impactful look, consider working with a monochromatic colour palette. It’s easy to do but oh-so effective at making a statement.

What I Wore: Mini Moment

31st March, 2020

I’m currently compiling a mental list of outfits I really want to wear once everything goes back to normal and this look is one of them. My current routine of home schooling, working from home and Netflix sessions doesn’t quite require this level of dressiness so until then, I’m remembering this shoot fondly.

This Camilla and Marc blazer-style mini dress is just the right balance of sophisticated and classic, but with a hint of playfulness that avoids it from feeling or looking too stuffy. It’s also such a versatile piece as it can easily be worn with bare legs but worked back with pants once temperatures drop. I love the textured finish from the fabrication to the detail on the pockets, and the contrasting buttons add a punchy element that allows the look to pop.

I wanted to wear simple accessories with this look and couldn’t go past my two-tone Chanel slingback flats. They’re a comfortable option for when I need a slightly more dressy shoe to go with my outfit and I’ve found them to go with so many different pieces in my wardrobe and can easily be worn with casual ensembles too. As the final finishing touch I opted for a sleek structured Gucci shoulder bag with a chain link feature. The colour makes it really versatile while the elegant design elevates it into something special.

What I Wore: Top Coat

24th March, 2020

While we may all be spending a lot more time at home these days, I’m still trying to inject a little fun into my wardrobe everyday in whatever way I can. Fashion’s always been such a huge part of my life and wearing a beautiful piece (even if I’m just going to staying inside) is one thing that helps me maintain a little normality in my routine.

I had this coat bookmarked for many an outing throughout autumn/winter, from meetings to events to the races and while those events may be put on hold right now, I’m still trying to work it into my wardrobe as best as I can. This checked coat by Viktoria and Woods is such a great statement piece to pop on top of a casual look to add a dressy element. The pattern, the cut and the contrasting details give it an elevated feel.

My collection of jeans has definitely been getting much more of a workout than usual. It has been interesting trying to find pieces in my closet that are comfortable enough for a day spent at home but also maintains a polished feel. This is where a crisp white shirt is ideal. It strikes just the right vibe but isn’t overly fussy.

The combination of a crisp white shirt and jeans is a blank canvas for so many different types of accessories. White slingback heels and a classic black bag make this look appropriate for myriad occasions. It’s definitely one outfit I’m bookmarking for future use.

What I Wore: Dot to Dot

29th November, 2019

I always go through phases with my wardrobe but at the moment I’m gravitating towards bold prints as I find they’re such a great statement piece and will always lift any outfit. This top and shirt by Kate Sylvester is such a fun look— the playful print and bright hue is great for the wearing during the day for a polished casual vibe but it can easily be dressed up for the evening with the right shoes and accessories. Additionally as they’re separates I can easily work them with other pieces in my wardrobe giving them a different spin.

While it’s easy to dress this co-ord set up or down, I opted for a smart off duty look that could easily transition to lunch out or a meeting depending on where my day is taking me. I bought these white Gucci sandals last summer and have found them to be such a worthy investment. They go with virtually everything in my closet and are also really comfortable so are ideal for when I’m on the go. This Prada bag ticks the boxes in my book as it can be worn in different ways, either using the top handle or utilising the strap to go hands free. It’s also a great size for housing all my essentials around but not so big that it’s cumbersome to carry around. I can see myself coming back to this look time and time again and if there’s one thing that can never go astray it’s a failsafe outfit that’s guaranteed to always work.

What I Wore: Orange

28th May, 2019

On a recent girls’ trip to Orange, we had quite a varied itinerary from checking out vineyards one minute to dinner and drinks the next so I needed to take the kind of pieces with me that could work for different occasions. Enter this checked Hansen and Gretel dress. The fitted silhouette and maxi length meant it looked quite polished and on the dressier side, but when I paired it with a pair of sneakers all of a sudden it had a more casual feel. As a bonus it was comfy enough to ride a bike in! I’m definitely on board with any dress that’s so versatile.

I think accessories are key when you want to dress a look up or down and in this instance I opted for silver Gucci sneakers. They’re casual being sneakers and all but in a metallic shade I think they’ve got a more elevated feel. By incorporating some of my go-to jewellery, particularly my absolute fave gold necklace, I feel that it helped tie the look together and give it a polished vibe.
